Just a quick post to say hello and thank all of you in advance....I've been looking around the site for only like 2 months as we start to design our new garage and this site is simply amazing as is all of your advice to one another!!! I hope I can eventually reciprocate with others and not just be the new guy taking taking and taking. So, thanks in advance for the help!
The short story is that I'm an old car nut who like all car nuts never have enough space and always try to find a way to maximize the space we do have. I'm currently in a nice traditional neighborhood in Central NJ on one acre with an attached 2 car garage. I have 5 old cars. Sooooooo many years ago I tore out the ceiling joists in the garage, raised the collar and rafter ties to 11ft and put in two car lifts from Eagle Manufacturing and I have all of 3" clearance above, and 18" on the sides and in between the two lifts.....IT IS REALLY REALLY TIGHT!
Fast forward and we are moving to our dream home on 5 riverfront acres in southern NJ that has a 2 1/2 car attached garage (that my wife already claimed) and a 2 1/2 detached car garage (26'x28')that I have claimed. It is this detached garage that is going to now get doubled in size and the current simple single story truss roof removed and the whole new structure (32'x50') replaced with a combination of Attic Trusses, and Scissor trusses over one new bay to accommodate one lift.
here is a picture of the existing structure, and two concept sketches of what I am pricing out right now. All comments and suggestions or warnings are welcome......and oh yeah.....if anybody knows of Framers or Masons in Southern NJ (Cumberland and/or Cape May County) Please forward me their information. I want this built and closed to weather before the end of the year.
