Companies get criticism all the time so I like to mention when they do something unexpectedly good.

I needed the drawer removal tool for a used Snap On box, knew about the hack saw method but figured I'd see what the probably overpriced genuine part cost.

Found out it was only $1.90 and thought sure, the shipping will be the killer. But no, free shipping, bought two for $3.80 plus 35 cents sales tax on Saturday and they arrived UPS on Tuesday!

Haven't tried to use them, they didn't come with instructions, so if anyone has tips to removing old partly rusty drawers please chime in.

I gave up as the hacksaw was not cutting it on the drawers. I ended up drilling out the rivets and keeping the tabs. Figured I'd simply put a new small rivet in place when I'm ready to reassemble.

Do you have a link to the product?

Snap-on takes care of me on a regular basis. My local SO guy *****, but the company and the tools I have bought from them have been very good.

I have a hex bit being delivered today that they sent me via warranty, even though I tried to pay for it when I called them. Their Warranty dept has been top notch. Not to mention they are Americans working in america too, which is not only nice, but a rarity for most companies in this day and age.

pull the drawers out a few inches so you can get the tools in but the extensions are still inside the cabinet.

hold the tools in place there, close to the cabinet face as you pull the drawer out, the rails will start to slide out, at that point just pull the drawer straight out.

maybe that isn't worded great, once you do it a few times it becomes second nature. there's probably youtubes for it too.

Pull the drawer all the way out till it hits the stops and then push the drawer in slightly - just an inch or so. Slip the tool - long end first - between the drawer and slide and push the slide most of the way back. If the tool released the slide it will go back if not you'll hit the stop and need to try again. Then do the same for the other side.

The reason you want to go only part way is so the slide will support the drawer while you work the other side.

Depending on how much crud and **** is between the slides one side may be harder to release than the other.

You can pull the slides from the box the same way from the back once the drawer is out.

It's been awhile since I've removed a Snap-on friction slide drawer, but as I remember, the hack saw blades were left in place as you pull the drawer out. The hack saw blades were used to unlock the full extension stops so that you can pull the drawer out. I would assume the Snap-on special service tools work the same way without having the unnecessary teeth of a hack saw blade.

Yup, buy the dedicated tool, it's worth it. Realistically, even buying slides and hinges through them really isn't the expensive.

If you haven't tried already, I have replaced snappy slides using a good quality rigid fairly thick all plastic 90 deg trim removal tool in place of the official tool, it worked well.

The end with the very short bend goes in the slide. Otherwise what J.A.F.E. said.

If the slides are full of dry crude, give 'em a shot of light oil first and put a little, light grease on the short bend end of the tool.

There were people who were buying large quantity of the cheap ratchet rebuild tool and reselling them on Ebay. Snapon stopped selling them for cheap and not for sale to end customers. Call Snapon and find out if this is in the same category.

Snap On stopped selling them, but my snap on guys said they were still like $20 even they did (so im not sure that price of $1 was accutate or a mistake, cant get a piece of chewing gum for a buck anymore LOL.

Because i have the older model top box with the thinner drawers Im limited in options...

EBAY is the only option for me i guess. thank you!

Well in 2015 I bought the SPP744 ratchet rebuilt tool for $0.89 with free shipping from Snap-on, so that $1 price probably was accurate.

^^ I agree

Tried the plastic, tried making my own from hacksaw blades but nothing fit my thin size drawers like these beauties. The price seemed high at $20 on Ebay but they work better than anything else thus far and ill have this set forever since they are stainless steel (into the top drawer they go!)

It is accurate I bought like 10 of them because I always lose them now I need one I went on snap-on website they don’t exist anymore and eBay they are between $10 & $15 so I might get creative and make one..
