I thought I would share what I did with $6 worth of vinyl tiles on my beat up old workbench. This is the before; dirty, stained, pitted, ugly.
And this is the after:
Very easy to do, I recommend it to anyone. Simply stick the whole tiles first, along the front edge. Then cut to fit the back tiles. That way if the cuts are uneven, it won't be very noticeable. Make a bad cut? 38 cents to buy another one. Damage a tile? Pull it up and replace it. Simple, easy, cheap, and looks great.
