Awsome Garage ! On the Harbor Freight Tool cabinet/Bench you painted red. Can you explain the mounts for grinder etc. Looks like a receiver of sort. Very cool ! I have a large 4x8 walk around and looking for an idea to swap Grinder/vise etc.

Can anyone advise on a simple (2 panel) slide door on a Wide 8' x High 6' open shelf unit. Just enough to hide and keep some dust out.

Wow.. just, wow... Jack, your garage is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing so much detail. This is my first comment here after joining recently and I wanted to pass along my compliments.

My family and I are in the depths of a kitchen remodel, which is cannibalizing a chunk of my two-car garage (bummer), but it also means that I have had to clear out 10 years of accumulated stuff to clear the way. So I have an (almost) clean slate! And seeing your garage has given me hope that I can make my smaller garage work for me. Just awesome. Thanks Jack!

Thanks, Zeke! You can see that I kind of blew the same corner at the end of the clip. I'm not sure if I decided to cool the car down or what, but I'm only at about 101 the second time I pass the cone.

And thanks, HammerZone. The mount is a double receiver hitch that would be used for a trailer on a truck. But I used it to hold 2" square tubing with a vise, bench grinder or anvil attached to it.

And thanks very much, Jimbo.. Hopefully, there's been an opportunity opened up from the remodel that will give you a chance to make the garage better. If this thread has helped in any way, then I'm glad it's here.

The video on my car and garage just went up on Petrolicious. I can't think of any group of people who will understand better than the ones here at Garage Journal. So if you've got nine minutes open, click on the image below to see it.

And let me know what you think.

Well I've been lurking here for a year and all thanks to the 12 Gauge Garage. Jack, I have taken a lot of inspiration from your thread, indeed, it was the impetus for last summer's clean up and redo. So to say that having just strolled in from laying down a coat of paint on my Chas Parker and watched your video would be a great start to my afternoon is a bit of an understatement. Thanks for documenting your thread so well and congratulations on your Petrolicious debut. Well earned.

Well done sir. Nice video on Petrolicious. I have seen the garage before (here, of course) and its a work of art. I also admire your commitment to drive to and from the track. I gave up on that and kind of regret it, a certain purity I suppose.

Jack,

That video was done very well. I really enjoyed how well it put together some of things we so badly want to see through moving picture.

While I haven't even begun a journey through a vehicle or workspace like yours, I can't help but become continually motivated to do so.

Don't get me wrong, getting married in a few months is a fantastic experience I look forward too, but those journeys (once the wedding expenses are taken care of) are gettings closer and I can't hold back the excitement.

Truly inspiring!

Re: Lista Cabinets come to the 12-Gauge Garage -- and I've got questions

Hi Jack,

Sorry for the delayed question. I was rereading your thread.

Is there a reason you didn't use the bottom part of the piece in the first picture and welded it on the bottom of the top half of the stack? That way, the stack would be in 2 pieces making it more manageable during a move. It would also give you more future flexibility.

I've been away from the site for a while. Thinking about your garage is what made me come back. Truely an awesome garage and a great guy. Can't wait to watch that video once I get home tonight.

Really nice work on the video - I loved it. It is good to be reminded of the fun that can be had by just keeping it simple.

Thanks very much, guys.

Alpinewhite, that's a good idea about keeping the two cabinets separate. But I have no plans to ever move (I deliver a very cold stare if my wife even jokes about it), and the thinking that was going on when I built it was to keep the overall height as low as possible while allowing that 1" of dead space so that the drawers wouldn't hit the steel-topped bench. Two inches of space there would have felt like it was sidestepping the design specs. But what you're describing is a smart idea.

thencamebronson, it's near there. I think we took Las Flores canyon up from the PCH, and headed toward Stunt and Schueren. But I hadn't been there in years, and wasn't even sure all of the old roads would still be open. Something about having toddlers kills those early-morning canyon run opportunities -- and also reminds you of how dangerous those roads are if you happen to be sweeping past when someone backs out of their driveway. But it was nice to go back for an afternoon. I'm not sure how the driving footage came out looking as fast as it does, since I was going very slow while they were photographing.

And because some people just click on the most-recent page, here's another link to the video.

Like the video. I don't know how you can manage all this in the space you got. I have a attached garage with a 4 pots lift, and 3 cars in it. The detached one with a 2 post and had up to 4 cars in it. Now the project 78 Beetle started. I'm running out of space and thinking extending my detached another 26 feet, since I still park the F15 and Pepper S outside.

Again, nice video.

Cheers

They produced a great video for you Jack. Enjoyed it. I'm curious how much actual footage is taken to result in a quality 9 minute video.

All I got to say is, if you do focus your automobile efforts on that one 911 the rest of your life, I'm sure it will be the fastest darn Porsche on the planet! (And it will probably still make less than 300hp :))

Keep up the fine work.

I'm not sure about this video in particular, but with the video work that I do I'll have hours of footage that has to be taken down to the 2-3 min videos that I produce. It's definitely one of the hardest parts.

I do have to say though, this video is awesome. Along with the car and the garage. It's amazing how much you've managed to incorporate into such a small space. What part of L.A. do you live in?
