Long talks about the car letting you drive instinctively but I would imagine you have to withhold reaction to your instincts if the PSM is on. I've never driven anything that sophisticated so imagine is all I can do, but I know my street car drives me crazy when it's silly counter measures kick in on track days. Hell, I don't even like ABS. Not that I'm God's gift to driving but I prefer to do the work myself.

Just saw the video for heel-toe down shifting too. I noticed your reaction to the question about which is better, you or the car, was a bit wishy-washy. Does it blip like it should? Not that I can buy one, just curious. Thanks.

Fantastic to see you got chosen for the Weissach "tour". I couldn't think of a better choice. Thanks for sharing this experience, along with all your others. Being an auto technician and all round do it by hand guy, I, too, have had a couple of encounters with finger tip injuries, although none by table saw. I've been more than lucky there a couple of times. I had a similar injury to the pad of my left thumb driving out a u-joint with a hammer, Pays to hit the punch instead of your knuckle. The edge of a driveshaft yoke is quite sharp under this condition. Like yours, 10 stitches later, the fingerprint lines up on both sides of the cut with full feeling after some 40 years! The second is too complicated to dirty up this thread with, but the recovery has been pretty much OK. Again, quite blessed. Thanks , again for all your insights on a wide range of life experiences!.

Did they at least let you tear into that thing? I hope they let you have some real fun in it.

Yes. I got to drive both the 911R and a 991 GT3 RS around the track, back to back. And then there's the driving on the hillclimb course in France 10 days from now. So my bad acting is something I can totally deal with, relative to all the seat time and being a fly on the wall with the motorsport guys and drivers.

Here's a little project. Five years ago, I made a little 'art caddy' for my kids to hold paper and markers and crayons. Yesterday, my wife asked if I could make another one for an auction my son's school is having. Here's the old one, from a post earlier in this thread (page 67).

Of course, I'd completely forgotten how I'd made the thing, so I emptied it out, measured it, and tried to figure out what the sequence had been for putting it together. It was made with plywood, because that's what I had sitting around. But since it's lasted five years so far, I decided to do the new one exactly the same way. Actually, it's going to be new 'ones,' since I figured out I could make four of them from a sheet of plywood.

I finished them today, except for the painting. Last time, I hand-painted an M on either side (since both the kids' names start with M). But this time, I decided to write the word 'art' on both sides. After a little bit of figuring, I came up with a stencil idea -- which worked. The new one is green and white, the school's colors. Here it is next to the od one.

My grandfather was a plumber. I remember him having a similar (but slightly larger) box for frequently-used tools.

I've got to stencil both ends of the other three before I get on the plane to go to France tomorrow. It's going to be a busy day.

One big cup of coffee and some time with a brush. All done. Each one gets the functional type on one side and the fancy-pants script on the other.

OMG - Are you racing Bugattis this weekend? :)

It's strange to me because 1) I never travel, and 2) I hate traveling. But yes, it's for more driving. And it's just something I still have difficulty believing is happening. Porsche has closed off a stretch of mountain road in the Pyrenees so this other guy and I can drive the same hillclimb stage that a 1969 Porsche 911R won back in 1969. And along for the ride will be Patrick Long, a factory Porsche driver who has won Le Mans and all sorts of ALMS and Pirelli Cup races.

Just got an email from PCA which lead me to the 911R site, that is pretty cool. Congrats on the gig, can't wait to see some video from France!

Well, I'm back -- sorting out the jet lag.

This time they didn't confiscate any phones, so get ready for a barrage of selfless. The first one with a guy who's driven Le Mans more times than I can count.

The roads were shut down for the driving:

And there was a helicopter for high-angle chase shots:

Here are the requisite selfless with the 500-hp 911 that they let me throw all over a very narrow mountain road.

Let's go!

I think the official video from it will be available in two weeks or so. As soon as it's out, I'll post a link.

We could all do with a "barrage of selfless"! LOL!

Can't wait for the video to come out. I don't think I have to ask if you had a great time from the look on your selfless mug.

Look at that smug smile! lol If I were you I couldn't wipe that grin off my face at least till after Christmas. ;)
Bet you had fun!
So, did you get the car afterwards? I mean, after all what they've put you up to it's the least they could do, right? ;)

Am I the only one who was skateboarding in 1978? Today, I remembered a logo and made myself a t-shirt. I'm going to wear it to a car show tomorrow.

Logan Earth Ski, Tracker Half Tracks, Sims Pure Juice wheels.

I sucked at skateboarding but that's what we did back then.

I still have my Maharajah. This is one like it. I have some 3M anti skid tape on mine, don't know if that devalues it. Doesn't matter it's not for sale.

I'm 70 but I've been on it in the last 5 years. I'll typically ride one a little if there's one laying around at someone's house. I can't ollie but I can ride nose up or 'manuals', kick turn and 180's. I'm pretty much a 'grounded' rider.

Jack I was "trying" to skateboard before they invented "real" sKatebord wheels, after coming to a sudden stop a few times, I became an EX Skateboarder!

I do remember using a huge 4-5 footer and "belly boarding" on that down drive ways and turning it onto the side walk.. good times...

So this was before my time, but I did see someone wearing a thrasher hoodie the other day and it brought back memories. Didn't even know that was still around.

Wow! Just wow. Getting flown out by Porsche to thrash a 911, while the police close the road for you. You couldn't buy that experience! Thanks for sharing mate.

That's very impressive, Zeke. I've thought about trying it again, but always imagine it will end up with me in a wheelchair.

Thanks. Here's another update, since I'm pretty sure that the official final clip comes out tomorrow.

Until then, I got sent some cell phone footage which I edited together into an unofficial preview of the finish of this thing. I hope you all like it -- although I can't imagine you'll enjoy it as much as I did. :)

That is a brave cameraman at 30 secs in. Hard on the brakes. Gravel and dust on the pavement at the turn-in. Nowhere to hide if it goes wrong.

And you! You ****! That looks like a lot of fun and kind of stressful all at the same time. So, if something were to go wrong, were they going to hold you responsible for repairs?

Christian Hasoi deck, Gullwing trucks, and Vision Blur wheels. It was 1989ish, but I was loving the skateboarding scene back then as a kid!

I watched your Porsche on Petrolicious Jack. What a true labor of love and detail!
