Excellent job, I was just looking at campers the other day!

4 days to drive to Edmonton and back? That's a haul.

The trailer looks great! Looks very inviting.

Re: My Fiberglass Camper Restoration

Thanks!

Beautiful job, Jack. Very nice.
Sleeps 3 or 4?
Bathroom for Mama?

It sleeps four, but has no bathroom (some of them do). We have a separate little tent and a very rudimentary 5-gallon-bucket-with-a-toilet-seat solution to go inside it. So far, that's worked fine for us.

I like long drives, but this was one where everything had to go to plan -- 3,400 miles of pavement, including importing a 48-year-old vehicle to the US from Canada. I still can't believe it went as well as it did.

You also have some good photography skills. That looks great.

Thanks. I got a new camera a month ago, and it makes up for my lack of actual skills. My garage pictures should improve a little as well.

Looks great. I can't believe you couldn't find something closer. Boler trailers are for sale up here all the time. I think there are about 5 or 6 of them for sale in Edmonton right now.

Camper looks great, and in the fifth picture, looks like Jack Jr. is ready to tackle anything.

Wow.

Super job with the camper and I agree with the person above who said you have excellent photography skills.

I'm curious if you've given any thought to getting something period to tow it with? Something like an old Chevy Apache would look so cool in front of that trailer!

Re: My Fiberglass Camper Restoration

One problem for me. No bathroom! My old prostate requires a bathroom close by! :lol_hitti

Looks absolutely fabulous! I remember when U-Haul had similar campers, if not the same you could rent. A friend bought one when they were liquidating them and used it when he worked on movie sets as a transportation driver. When it got to the point of having to tow production equipment from location to location, he quit using it.

Wow! very impressive. You have done a spectacular job.

My worry would also be bathroom and kids growing up a little. My sister is 2 years younger and we are great friends now since roughly college, but for a while we were at each other a lot. Confined space, no privacy, teens.....good luck.

Great project & looking forward to future modification posts. Maybe an anti-sway bar and rear wing so it takes corners better when pulled by the Porsche.

Looks great! I agree with a period correct tow vehicle, that would be pretty cool. GJ is great at spending other peoples money LOL.

Re: My Fiberglass Camper Restoration

There is a guy here locally who tows a vintage canned ham type camper with a mid 60's pickup with a very similar color to the Suburan in the previous post, although two-toned with white. Camper painted the same color. Hope to run into the guy this summer.

Camper in the OP of this thread looks fantastic. I need to go look at the pictures on my computer instead of my phone.

Re: My Fiberglass Camper Restoration

Do you think a black propane tank in southern California is a good idea?
I think it is likely to get hot enough to pop the pressure relief disk.

The camper is great!

Re: My Fiberglass Camper Restoration

So can't compete other than complement you on the trailer... Have you gone to the Pismo Coast RV Village (Beach) Vintage Event?? If not you need to go... We've been on the "outside" of the days they hold it, and you would find a lot of people you'd want to talk to and walk your children around. They really get into "theme" for that... Think it is in May -- Book yourself in another park (because, believe me it will be full), and go take a good walk around, some amazing retro-stuff there!

My SWMBO sent me a picture of a Boler trailer just a few days ago. I need to show her this thread! Well done, as always, Jack!

You drove right by one of the best sights to see with the kids. The Going to the sun highway in upstate Montana. It's a beautiful spot if you get time to take the family some day.

Thanks for the really nice photo wrap up on the trailer. Like others suggested, a 60’s era car is needed. How about a Checker with Art Morrison chassis, supercharged LS, Vintage Air and Classic Audio playing the Momma and Pappas “California Dreamin’” or Beach Boys “I Get Around”. Kids are only young once.
Also....News from Willow Springs. 60’s Checker outruns Porsche in heads up race. lol

Jack,

I saw Petrolicious is doing a Master Mechanics series ( I’m a founding member), and noticed your in it! Did they come back and do a follow up segment for you? Keep us posted. I’m hoping it airs soon.

Missed your camper update, great work!! I love the addition of power to what you had already, as well as where you left it out (IE: the foot pump for water).

Have you weighed the trailer by chance? I'd be curious on the weight and side-to-side distribution, just because those things interest me lol.

Awesome work as always, it makes me smile when threads of this age are updated.

Thanks. I'm not allowed to talk about a Petrolicious video -- but I'm sure you can draw some conclusions from that. :)

We took the camper out for spring break, to Sequoia National Park and then down to Joshua Tree National Park. It went really well. It weighed in at 1,504 pounds, loaded for the trip. I don't remember the side-to-side weights, but it was slightly heavier on the non-kitchen side, which surprised me. But then, that's where I put 70 pounds of batteries.

Here are a few pictures from the trip.

And here's an odd little clip. This morning, I spent an hour and a half cleaning up the garage. The work on the camper and a project for my kids' school both left their mark. Here's an hour and a half of clean-up boiled down to 60 seconds.

(Click on the image to see the clip.)

Great clip of cleaning up! Awesome that you nailed the side to side weight, looks like the camper accomplished the mission: family fun for all!

Gosh, that clean up scene makes me feel better, not just about the fact that the world's most famous garage actually gets used, but also as motivation to find a place for everything in my garage so that everything has a place to go at cleanup time.
