Hello everyone,

I've been lurking here for awhile and picking up some great ideas from everyone so I figured it was time I gave back a bit. And hopefully be prodded into doing some more work on the space.

Awhile back I posted about spacing and layout for a new garage, well, the prices i was quoted were a bit beyond what i was looking to spend so i decided to make due with what i have.

So, here we go. I started working on the garage in early September.
It starts out with an 18x18 sorta carport sorta pole barn.

Here it is full of stuff, and then cleaned out. Next came the insulation and plywood.

While some of that was going on I had an extra bit of concrete poured for more parking and a new Horrman door and opener installed.

After all that came paint and cabinets. I found the cabinets on craigslist and the curb.

At this point I still need to move things back in to the garage from the basement and the garden shed. My goal is to make it into a usable space to work on the old Mercedes. Hopefully after the holidays i can get the tools back in and organized. find a decent compressor. and hang a TV in there.

As for another little bit done along the way, I used those internet over power line adapters to get WiFi in the garage and it works pretty well, well enough to stream video on my tablet.

LOL, if those cabinets are metal, I have the same ones in my attached garage right down to the handles. Made by Hotpoint, I believe.

Looks like you're making great progress.

Yep, the cabinets are metal. White turned blue ones were the craigslist find. $80 for all of them. The oddball 70's olive green one was the curb find. Just up the block, saw it while i was walking the dog. Went back, grabbed the hand cart and rolled it home.

Picked up something new for the garage today and made a discovery. The something new is the toolbox below. The discovery is that the battery tender I have on the car interferes with the powerline internet adapter I'm using for WiFi in the garage. Battery tender plugged in its like dial up. Unplug it and its 50Mbps.

Re: The 18x18 -ish - Lift Advice??

Made some more progress yesterday. Moved most of the stuff I had stored in the basement back into the garage.

I have also been thinking about a lift. I don't have much ceiling height, it goes from about 7'9" at the front to about 6'9" at the back. The center beam is at 6'9". That leaves me about 32 inches from the roof of Orange Julius to the beam. I've been reading a lot here and elsewhere and have been pondering either MaxJax (or the newer M6 with the automatic locks), an Atlas Quick Bay or its generic equivalent, or the low tech solution of a Kwik-Lift. I'm looking to get the car off the ground enough with the center open to do basic routine maintenance as well as some bigger repairs (need to replace the AC compressor, the flex discs will need replacing soon, etc.). Any ideas or opinions would be appreciated.

Along those line I'd also like to ask about my slab. It was installed in 1995, has a 12 inch thickened edge and a vapor barrier (figured that out when i was digging to find the electric conduit). There are no control joints cut and no cracks. Its the no cracks I find interesting. Does that indicate a lot or re-bar, mesh, or just luck? If i go with a MaxJax setup ill drill to find the thickness in the interior but I'm unsure if there is any reinforcement and is that required for a 2 post set up?

Thanks everyone
