Dan,

I would keep the date that you pick up quite, don't want any issues with Andy.

Those boxes will be a good fit in your shop.

Nah, Andy is cool with things. After talks with Dan I couldn't agree with you more Craig. There are many friends I have on the GJ. I feel whole heartedly that Dan is right fit for the WOC and that makes me real good to know that they're going to be looked after and cared for.

Life after the Wall of Craftsman... Well like I posted above few days ago I build it and feel it's time to move on to other things and like someone enjoy it just as much as I did.

What are my plans for a replacement? Well... at least for this place I have some ideas and plans I'm working on but not much is going to change. Some of them actually I've done before or concept was the same might be just different items. This past July it's been 10 years I've had the 5 Stitches Garage and THINK maybe I got it to the point I want. Well maybe there has around the GJ about garages having the ability to adapt and change as needed. I can surly attest to that. I've probably change enough in this garage for about 10 GJ members for a lifetime within my 10 years. LOL

For all those that might be worried I've lost it or giving up my Garage Life? Im not just going in a different direction. Maybe it's getting older and mature thing? Nah, I'm still me and that's one thing that wont change.

Gerard

Just about shocked out here and thinking I may need to be on Killian's Life Support.

Hard to imagine your selling out your Cman boxes!! I do know what your into though as I have thoughts of now converting to a woodwork shop, even after all my bad mouthing about wood shop messes. Getting my new router table did it, and I am "re-hooked" on wood stuff so who knows what will happen in my place.

Highly interested to know in what direction you take from here.

Let's push up the old saying: "A man's garage is what he makes it". " Even it he does it every now and then whether he needs to or not". (Last sentence added by me).

Best Regards
Herb.

We spoke privately about this and I fully understand why your rehook on woodworking. We (wife and I) always say we want change of scenery and her parents are getting older. We did move them right up the block from us to better take care of them which has been great. We see them a lot and it's much easier for me to do project when there less then a minute drive. I always said it went from 30 min to 30second. LOL.

We see few moves in future so instead of custom making a garage for a particular garage I'm thinking of a generic system I can set up in any 2 car garage. Of course some things will have to custom built for the garage space. I'm not sure how far I will be able to pull that off in current garage but in future I see concept making it real easy to set up a garage.

It sounds like you are on your way to a new garage adventure. Yes parting with the WOC was a shocker but I can see where you are coming from now.
You're a creative person so the next garage layout theme should be great and very interesting. Can't wait to follow along and learn a few new tricks.

Thanks man. I always thought way different than most. It's not non common for me to heading in one direction and make a left turn from time to time. It's going couple of months until I can unveil new direction so until then I'll keep sorting working on some other things.

What!!!? The WOC to be dismantled???? !!! :eyecrazy:

I just caught up on the last few weeks of the thread, I never expected to witness such a historically significant announcement - have you been visited by Ronald Reagan's ghost lately ("...tear down this wall")?

So, what is to take it's place?
The wall of .......????

Good to hear that the recent nasty weather gave you a wide berth.

Yes, you & Dan (& your mate "Andy") sure had us going there for a while. I must admit to being a little distracted by my own "battle" elsewhere, but I was getting worried about the 2 of you.

I want all of you guys to know that the WOC will be reassembled and added to. Gerard is parting with a lot more than just some tool boxes. He's spent a long time as we all know putting it all together. Just so everyone knows, they will be treated well and shown the respect that Gerard has given so much of his time to assemble them. Thanks again Gerard, I'll be in touch with you soon.

Took a break from garage today to do lawn at my inlaws. It's now my duty because son moved to Oregon this week. I trimmed some trees and also dealt with stumps from some old bushes. Came back home exhausted from there yard and wife said can blow off back patio while unloading the truck and the patio is getting dangerous with that root. Well I start pulling the patio up and found this issue lifting my pavers.

In Florida soil is really sandy so I used a technique I used before. I have in ground sprinkler system so them are always needing something. Mostly is digging up the valves or heads for replacement. I dig a hole really deep and then use water to wash all the dirt away it bottom of hole. Then you can get the pvc dirt free and able to work on it. This method work great on tree roots and I used a tool I made up.

25f9e1f078f969ee2b45553d6f650e17.jpg

All dirt washes down to the lowest point bringing the dirt with it.
f4f58146f0704dee684383a6fd811a61.jpg

When I just the root exposes enough to know where I plan on cutting it. MR Root meet Mr Sawzall.

With root all cut out.
d30f22a34e618da6765425f597866ed6.jpg

Now just to fill in the hole and reset patio pavers.

Neat technique to get the sand out of the way. The clay around here would laugh as it sent the water back at you. Got to dig it out the hard way.

Yep, it's been getting bad. I was afraid of opening a can of worms with doing it. It's actually worked out ok because I forgot about something. You saw the new section of patio which is 20x30. That new section wasn't there when I had the sinkhole but the other section was. During the repair they pulled the small section up then and when done reset that section. During that they laid down dry concrete down then the patio pavers. So when I pulled up the block I just broke the concrete base material where the root was. Know I just need the put more dry down then the block and it should be like when they first laid it. Now new section had some issues in few area now that section they did base, sand then pavers. Now that section gonna be little harder to fit because no grout joint. I tried to pull the few out and gonna have to pull entire row to closest edge.

Thanks, the sandy soil make it possibleI just remembered I made that little jet tool to clean out my water heater. When I moved in this house water heater was about 10 years old. So I put new thermostat, elements and anode rod in. When I pulled the elements the thing was 2/3 full with calcium flakes. I cleaned all the **** out and needed a small tool to moved stuff to a area I could reach in with small pvc pipe to **** it out. Now I pull the elements and flush unit about every year or so. I also replaced the small drain valve with a 3/4 ball valve so when I valve more of that calcium get flushed out instead of clogging the drain valve.

Maybe you can get Bob up and show you his new pressure washer. :lol_hitti

Yeah, Been needed to clean it up. I usually have to do it 3 or 4 times a year depending on how much rain we get. I co own a pressure washed with my dad and just upgraded the pump it a 2800 and got one of those spinning driveway cleaner which make quick work of the patio.

Nice work on the root removal. It just reminds me of a big root problem I have to take care of someday. Maple tree root has been buckling my driveway.
Speaking of driveways, how good is this "spinning driveway cleaner" you mention. Maybe I could get one to clean snow off my driveway this winter??

But since all jobs done require the right tools, I spied in one of your patio photos that small flat pry bar which I assume you used to lift up the pavers. Those are the best and, I have a couple of those around the house. I buy every one I can find at garage sales and give them to friends. A very handy tool for home, garden, car repair and many other tasks.

I think Gerard is talking about the turbo head for the pressure washer. I have one that I call my money maker. It has a single 0 degree stream and about a 15 degree stream that rotates and you can cover a lot of distance in a short amount of time. I loaned mine to a friend last week and he finished the job that took him 5 hours last time in under 2.

On the pressure washer I have a Troy built 2600 with a Honda engine. I just upgraded to 2800 pump. I have all the standard nozzles plus these.

A turbo nozzle.

Then I have this for patios and driveway.

Both tools work great and if not using those I'm using the 40 on my screens.

So what been going on in the garage?. It's been pretty quite. We worry when we don't hear much from you. You don't have the WOC to stare at, at least in a owners view. Staring at a empty wall with all that leftover beer is Devils play:evil:

Now you're making me feel bad cb. I don't want to be the one that has caused Gerard to go into a deep depression. I think I should retract my offer.

Yeah, you are being a major enabler, no telling what he might go do now:lol_hitti

Please at least let him paint the boxes before you retract the offer.

It'll be good therapy .

The turbo is the one I have that I love so much. How does the rotary surface cleaner work? Worth the $$$? I have seen them and thought it looked kind of gimmicky, but if it goes faster or does it with less splashback I will have to take another look.

BIG PLANS.... BIG PLANS..... Don't worry the BIG REVEAL will be the FC gathering when Dan comes down. In meantime I got all but one cabinet empty so (11 of 12) and just going though everything. I found out my garage suffered from EDD (Empty Drawer Disease). I had a empty drawer I filled it with something even if it didn't bling there. It's kinda like that junk drawer at your house that everything gets thrown it. Well the WOC had a lot of that happen.

Dan don't worry, Gerard and I have the tool box situation under control. Here's the first one ready for loading on the trailer.

Gerard more info on the turbo nozzle. How is it different from other nozzles?

Shorty: I will hijack Gerard's thread and answer you. The turbo nozzle has a 0 degree constant jet from the center with a rotating jet at about 15 degrees. From 18" you can clear a path about 4 inches in diameter at a time. When you hit a stubborn spot you hold the 0 point on it to prompt it along. Makes your job faster and IMHO a neater result. You have to watch out for swirl marks and go back over a little, but it speeds up the operation.

The turbo nozzle is good but the rotating one is faster as long as the surface is not too bad. For the annual clean up I have adopted the rotating one.

Gerard it's about time you found out what isn't in those drawers. And if they are empty now you must have put the stuff somewhere so you don't need any more cabinets. Maybe totes? That's it more totes is what you need. LOL
