I start planing out the pack out of the Dewalt cases. This is start to finish of what I like to use them for.

IMG_1143.jpeg

IMG_1144.jpeg

IMG_1183.jpeg

I happy with the end result. I also picked up a “new” cabinet. I had one years ago and really liked it. I used it and then went to dad’s place. When emptied dad’s place I gave it to a friend. I really wanted to use it but I honestly didn’t have the room. Fast forward to now having a barn I kept an eye out for one and here’s what I got.

IMG_1184.jpeg

IMG_1185.jpeg

I picked it up for basically “free” but what caught my eye is that it’s 42” wide. The lateral file I had was only 36”. I did the calculations and I can fit 60 bins. If got creative 72. The 4 drawer file cabinet at max can fit 56 and I have 50 currently. It needs a paint job which I would like to do before it goes to Ga. Unfortunately I wont see it full potential until everything is moved up there.

One other news… I was going through the reorganizing of the vise drawer and realized something. The main 3 men in my life which had most impact were Mr Eddie, my FIL and my dad. I have a small clamp vise from each of them and they were all Stanley’s. It definitely took me back to good times I had in their respective garages and how much I do miss each of them.

Well I “Gerard’ed” myself again. WOW I haven’t used that term in a long time. Im sometime amazed how this happens. While cruising FB marketplace I came across an old style tanker desk. It was good price but way too far away. I went down that rabbit hole of looking at desk then remembered my FIL. My FIL always had at least one desk or a workbench where he could sit and tinker. I never had the space but like the idea.

Now with the barn I was thinking it would be nice to incorporate some sort of workbench idea that I can sit at. That’s a “down the road” idea right. WRONG!!! I go into work and find out they’re changing somethings around in part of the warehouse I work. I go into “GJ Gerard” mode and say “move this here… move that there… toss this and that… and didn’t think at end of day I end up with this. This is what ended up behind my truck.

IMG_1205.jpegIMG_1202.jpeg

It’s 1985 steelcase desk that’s been in our warehouse for I don’t know how many years. I’ve been there since 1995. It’s in good shape for being in a non air conditioned warehouse for 30 years. It’s dirty and has some surface rust but nothing that can’t be cleaned up or fixed. I added the casters just to make moving around garage easy as it’s heavy. Now the “Gerard’ed” part. Do I keep desk in FL or GA?

One option is to swap mobile bench for desk. IMG_1208.jpeg

IMG_1209.jpeg

IMG_1210.jpeg

IMG_1211.jpeg

The pros and cons…

The mobile bench is a basket case, but in all honesty that’s where I do majority of my work. I love the twin vice design. I love having my woodworking vises there. It’s where I do all my welding. On downside it also just storage my vises collection (which are my future restoration projects) that I just needed a place to put them.

The desk gives me that place to actually sit and work on things plus storage. It gives me some opportunities to shift things into different areas. It may not give me a ton of storage but in a small garage it can help out. The mobile bench and desk are roughly the same 2’ x 5’ dimension so both would take up same space. The other option is do I take the lateral file and change things around in FL or just leave the system I have in place? If I try to change things would it actually make an improvement or just be a waste of time? Time is something which is in short supply lately. Things to think about but I do know one thing. By Labor Day 2 things will be on a trailer to Ga. I can’t be having the FL garage looking like this after I spent all the time to downsize and declutter.

Well, another item followed me home but this one I know EXACTLY where it’s going. 😆

IMG_1237.jpeg

I been looking at FB market place for BIG *** fans and here’s another they tossing out at work. It needed a switch and a plug.

IMG_1238.jpeg

IMG_1239.jpeg

I decided to see what I can do with all my fans and parts. The left one is an 24” oscillating fan with 2 speed 1075/1725 motor. It’s meant to hang on wall bracket for a post. I put it on a base and post from stuff I had around. The oscillation gear box was broken when got it. This fan has served me well for few years now I can’t imagine being without it. The right is an also a 24” fan but bigger cage. The motor is a single speed at 1725. The small fan is something I found with dead motor. I put a 1/4 HP bandsaw motor on it. I had this in attic to move air while up there. The extra fan is off my old AC unit. I wish I had entire top fan assembly but just got fan.
IMG_1241.jpeg

I just set this up for a picture and this was how my day was going before even started working. 🤬 Damn blood thinners.

IMG_1242.jpeg

To be continued…

Part 2…

I started taking things apart just to find out that the 2 fans had to different shaft sizes.

IMG_1245.jpeg

IMG_1247.jpeg
So I did some scientific measuring 😆. I measured square inches of the blades and found out right one had more, higher pitch, and was quieter. The one on floor had about 99 sq in but shallow pitch. I took everything outside, cleaned it and even painted the base and fan cages.

IMG_1249.jpeg

Cleaned up motor, fixed wiring going into motor and the plug. I thought I had a switch but wasn’t right size. Luckily it broke with switch on.

IMG_1252.jpeg

IMG_1250.jpegIMG_1253.jpeg

These are both cleaned up and going to GA. The left one will be used by front porch sitting area so the smaller package and mobility with work well there. The bigger one with go inside barn. Ironically, even though the right one is bigger the left one puts out more air flow. Maybe I can find a bigger blade to fit to fill out the 30” cage. I sure have enough motor to turn it. The small fan with stay in Florida and I’ll work on that as time allows.

What would Gerard be using this for? Well if read the 1st line it would give you a hint. 🤣 Yes boys “HELL FROZE OVER” Gerard actually painted something.

IMG_1285.jpegIMG_1284.jpeg

Well it’s first good coat. Got maybe 1 or 2 more to go. I use TSP on kitchen cabinets as a deglosser with good results so decided to try it on lateral file. Where I plan to have this in the barn is everything is red so that’s color I went with. Not too concerned with how top turns out as it will be covered. Honestly when in place only face frame and drawer fronts will be seen.

On other note I wanted to add casters to the big fan. I had a set of stem casters from the IKEA carts, so drilled four holes and mounted them. I don’t need it to roll good I just needed to roll when I needed to. I don’t need to turn it on the have it fly across the barn. 🤣

Well, like everything plans change. I was supposed to go up to Georgia in two weeks but ended up going this weekend. I had to throw the lateral file cabinet together to make the trip. I really would have liked to get couple more coats of paint and have time to cure before reassembly, it’s definitely a 20 footer.

IMG_1291.jpeg

You really don’t realize how many vices you have until you have to move them. I didn’t even realize I had this many.

IMG_1292.jpeg

When I came up with the idea for the universal mount for my bench vises, this is kind of the idea it was going to be used for. Granted some of them don’t have the right size mounting plate and that’s because it was on the gray mobile bench. Glad to see this idea actually panned out.
IMG_1294.jpeg

The last minute change to make the trip this weekend might have worked out. I just started loading **** in the truck and trailer. I didn’t have time to sit and think about things. It is all strapped down and ready to go.

IMG_1293.jpeg

With me leaving at about 5 o’clock with a good 4 1/2 to 5 Hour drive at least I was rewarded with a beautiful Florida sunset

I got up to the property about 1015. Now this trip is going to be an hot shot run. Run up drop off some things get some sleep be back on the road first thing in the morning. At least that’s the plan. This is where having the drive-through pays off. I love being able to bring the truck and trailer inside close the door and being able to unload it under roof. There’s pros and cons to this design because it does eat up a lot of floor space.

IMG_1302.jpeg

I didn’t get any QTT this trip but anytime I can jump on the Kubota I’m happy. I’m sure my back is thanking me too.

IMG_1312.jpeg

This is the newer updated Fab area. I brought the desk and a chair. I ended up making a table from some plywood sheets and some banquet table legs, which were taking up space at the Florida garage. This is kind of a prototype. I really would like to have a 4 x 8‘ large workbench here. I don’t know if I have enough space. The two sheets I have are 3x 6,5. I took the work top off the gray cart. This cart is definitely gonna need some rehab work. It’s been used and abuse. I think it’s gonna be useful when I get done with it. Making gray carts great again. I moved the toolbox for the time being.

IMG_1311.jpeg

IMG_1317.jpeg

This is the general area where the lateral file will live according to the layout. That is going to be the work bay, and that door goes to the back porch.

IMG_1320.jpeg

The healing bench hasn’t even been in the barn for 12 hours and already had its first patient. 🤦🏻‍♂️

IMG_1319.jpeg

This has to be the first time I’ve ever had a string head lock up on me. Lucky I had another one and I’ll bring this one home to fix. It was a successful trip meaning I cleaned out some cleaned out the extra pieces cluttering up the Florida garage to the GA barn. Now it’s time to go home and clean up the mess I created in the Florida garage.

This pic got me. At first I thought it was vertical wall storage for your vises, before realizing it was just a shot of the back of your truck.

Vertical storage for vises. 🤔 Well that brings up an interesting idea. People display things like engine intakes up like wall art. We could be on the something there.

Well, Say hello to the new farm truck…

IMG_1353.jpeg

I’ve been looking at golf carts, atv, sidexsides, and trucks for the property for awhile. I must say IMO they asking crazy money for these. So much in fact it’s cheaper to buy an old truck than even a golf cart. I started looking at Ford Rangers because I know them pretty damn well ( I owned 2, son had 1, and dad had 1). When comes to full sized Ford I owned a 99 Expedition 4x4 with 5.4 and we had Dads 2006 F150 4x4 with 5.4. That said I know my way around Fords. What I actually wanted to buy was a 1st or 2nd generation Dakota with a manual transmission. Could you imagine that. It would be the Kubota and Dakota show at the farm. 🤣 I had a lead on few but but didn’t work out. I really really wanted one because when I first started driving before I got my first Ranger. I test drove a couple Dakota‘s in 1993 and I really like them. V6 V8 with a stick in small pickup equals FUN.

The big reason for the truck is my wife’s cancer battle. It’s hard for her to climb up in truck and the truck has a rougher ride then the Sorrento. I’m not making Home Depot runs for lumber or to fill up my diesel tanks for the tractor in the Sorrento. I needed a truck preferably a small one. I’m also gonna feel a lot more comfortable, throwing tree debris, and chainsaws in the back of the farm truck versus my Ram. So she’s a 1998 Ford F150 2WD 4.6 V8 with an automatic. Currently has 197,000 on her. The more I read up on this combination the better I felt. It’s a durable motor with a good transmission. That was the one thing I was worried about buying an old truck with an automatic. It’s easy for me to throw in a clutch versus $3000 to $4000 for a new automatic. She’s mechanically sound with working AC, brand new tires, and interior all intact. She’s just a dirty girl right now. I paid $2500 for her. I think it’s a fair price and fits what I need her for.

This weekend I ended up buying 4 new tires for trailer. IMO it was a great price. $115 for a 205/70/15 D rated tires mounted on black rims. My old tires weren’t bad or dry rotting but 5 years old and C rated. C rated are 1820 (7280) and D rated 2150 (8600) for my trailer which is 7000k with 5200 payload. I like black rims too over white ones. I now have 4 spare now vs non like before.

We are up in Ga for the week. It’s a good thing because we are getting storms in Fl. First nite we where greeted by our doe that comes and visits.

IMG_1378.jpeg

I can sit here and watch them for hours.

Monday, I had one project that needed to get done ASAP which was fixing the splashing issue on front porch. I went with heavy duty landscape fabric knowing I will some rock in this area eventually.

IMG_1393.jpeg

I did mess up. I thought the ramps for 3ft and they were 4ft. That’s fine because I got a 250ft roll so just doubled it up. They use these clips and washers.

IMG_1386.jpeg

One side done the other side work in progress. The clay was to wet and just stuck to tires when tried to compact it with tractor.

IMG_1389.jpeg

Speaking of the tractor it hit 200 hours. I sat it in the shade and gave it the afternoon off. 🤣

IMG_1381.jpeg

IMG_1390.jpeg

It’s seems like Ga is just rough on my stuff. The poulan blower finally gave up the ghost. I can’t complain. It was $100 new and used the hell out of it for years at 4 properties. Its replacement is another Echo product. I use it almost everyday up at property blowing out barn and porches.

IMG_1392.jpeg

I did buy another toolbox. 🤣 It’s actually a feed bucket but works good for putting tools it in.

Tuesday, I tried working on other side of the porch but still it just wasn’t working out. I started mowing and trimming up trees. Farmtruck engaged. I trimmed about 40 trees and ran about 6 full truckloads to burn pile.

IMG_1403.jpeg

IMG_1405.jpeg

It’s getting there. Its a lot of work doing it myself. I took out small saplings and left everything worth keeping. I might thin out more but that’s for another day. I like sitting on front porch being able to see through the trees.

IMG_1406.jpeg

IMG_1409.jpeg

I would trim the tree/bush just left of the post but the deer eat the leaves and sit under it. I’ll leave it be for now. While sitting on porch our deer showed up for dinner.

Trimming trees and clearing brush is a lot of work. Looks great. What tools are you using to trim the trees and clear the brush? Is your farm truck registered for a limited area?

Thanks. I’m using a battery sawzall for small and pole saw for bigger branches especially those higher up. To mow I’ll use the brush cutter on tractor and come back in with smaller push mower and finishing off with a string trimmer. For height im looking for my truck to go under with scraping or height of rops on my tractor.

As far as the truck I can’t register it in Georgia because I’m not a resident even though I own property. It will have Florida tags and registration. I have not looked into registration or insurance yet as far as a limited use. I’ll do that once back in Florida.

Thanks for your response. I use a battery recip saw with a pruning blade for pruning fruit trees. Guess I will need to look into a battery pole saw. I've pondered one of those brush cutters (like a weed trimmer, only with a round saw blade), but I still use the brush cutter / push mower / trimmer combination, too.

Interesting on the truck registration. Did not see that one coming. I've had a farm registration in Maine, but I am a resident. In your scenario, the best I'd be able to do would be a regular registration and insurance as a third, recreational use vehicle with liability only.

The pole saw is an attachment for my Echo gas string trimer. It’s a Troy bilt mated to an echo shaft.

IMG_1437.jpeg

Eventually I’ll upgrade this to an echo attachment when it dies. It’s held up but not something for heavy duty use. Its perfect for trimming some branches here and there couple times a year. I do also have a brush cutter ( saw blade type).

IMG_1434.jpeg

It’s works okay. One issue and this just might be my setup. I’m using it on 21 and 25cc power heads. I think it’s made for a bigger cc unit. It’s like it has to run at top speed to be effective. I have more control just using a string trimmer with heavy line or using my hedge trimmer attachment.

IMG_1435.jpeg

One of the best brush cutters I’ve used has to be one of these. It’s a Billy goat brush cutter with hydrostatic transmission and pivoting head.

IMG_1438.jpeg

I rented one for a week. It mowed down 2-3 in saplings like nothing. The DR brush cutter along the same lines just not as beefy as the Billy goat. I often look at marketplace to find one just because it’s better than using a push mower but smaller than using my tractor.

I’m not a fan of battery lawn equipment especially on my 5 acres. Maybe at Florida house and only if it’s a capable battery system like M18s or RYOBI 18v system. My neighbor has some battery equipment and while it works well I don’t like its special battery. When it dies they are expensive to replace.

Today was an amazingly day. My wife surprised me with a gift. She said I need you to hook trailer up and take me somewhere. Don’t ask questions… so we ended up at the Kubota dealership to pick up my new zero turn mower.

IMG_1433.jpeg

It’s a Kubota Z542. 27hp Kawasaki engine, Hydro gear 3600, 60” cut with a suspension seat. I took it home and gave it a good test run. It’s awesome and was cutting the tall grass pretty decent. I have to remember it’s a finish mower and not a brush hog. My field is kinda spilt in 2. The south half is mostly grass while the north half is grass and woody weeds. For that half I jumped back on tractor. I remembered to take some before pictures to show difference.

IMG_1426.jpeg

IMG_1428.jpeg

After
IMG_1429.jpegIMG_1430.jpeg

It doesn’t take long for it to get out of control. I mowed maybe a month or so ago. I’ve been told if you keep on top of the mowing the grass will take back the field.

You are spot on with that last statement, most of the 5 acres my last house was on was old overgrown pasture. It took way too much work to clear it out to make it a yard again as it was covered in trees and brush. Once it was all cut down the first time I just used my mower to go over it when I mowed they yard, after a couple years it was a normal yard again but had a lot of weeds. Eventually I upgraded to a Stihl FS 251 (41.6cc engine) with a 3 blade cutter and it would take down anything up to about 3/4" in diameter with a little effort, then saw blade for bigger and then chain saw for actual trees. I could clear an acre in a day all with that if needed. The cleanup and burning took much longer though.

That’s what I figured with the brush cutter. I just don’t have a lot of power in those 21 and 25cc heads.

I guess my problem is I’m not up here enough to keep it mowed down and only had the tractor. I’m hoping now the zero turn will speed my mowing so on a 3 day weekend I can knock it out no problem.

This is one of the next areas I plan to tackle.
IMG_1415.jpeg

IMG_1424.jpeg

IMG_1422.jpeg

One thing that gets me hesitant it that while clearing area I ran into poison ivy. There’s a lot of it here. I’ve had 2 bad cases of it recently. I honestly never dealt with it before until I got here. The other thing is cleaning up. I can easy go throug clean an area up but the damn clean up takes forever. I also learned in this county I need to get a burn permit. I’m like WTF. It’s my land and need a permit to burn my brush pile?

If you've never dealt with it before, one warning. Do Not burn poison ivy! The chemical that causes the irritation travels in the smoke.

Lou Manglass

I recently heard this. I trying to remember if I put any in my burn pile. I’m curious… people do a lot of control burns on their properties in Ga. How far is a safe distance away? I know in Florida they do control burns on state forest just north of me. Do they even check for poison ivy, poison oak or poison sumac?

Well it’s been a good work week in Georgia. The front porch project was a success. IMG_1444.jpeg

IMG_1443.jpeg

Friday and Saturday we had some heavy showers come through. We still had water splashing but no mud. I’ll consider that a win. I did have it all cleaned until dogs played in the mud and walked all over it. 🤦🏻‍♂️

IMG_1450.jpeg

The work bay had 2 visitors. The F150 and the Kubota.

IMG_1452.jpeg

The F150 needed a new coil pack and some other things looked at. The Kubota I’m pretty upset about. I got in a situation and ended up breaking a a hydraulic hard line. It’s an expensive mistake with new line costing just under $300 from Kubota.

I got a hydraulic shop in area I work so gonna see if it’s fixable before ordering new line.

IMG_1447.jpeg

IMG_1449.jpeg

I was able pull quick connects, bag the lines, and ratchet strap everything tight. I can use tractor 3 point, pto, and can lift the loader. I just don’t have my bucket curl until I fix it.

I installed a new deer feeder and deer like it.

In the past weeks I’ve been thinking about the barn since it’s starting to get unorganized. I have a rough layout I drawn out so did some research on ideas to put in place. While it’s fun to work on something new that doesn’t account that my Florida garage is still a mess. The sheds and attic could use some help too. How the hell did I bring all this stuff up to Ga and still have my place a mess? I started with the biggest culprit with is the fab “ dirty” side.

IMG_1534.jpeg

The biggest issue here is there no bench space to do anything. I have hardware unsorted which has been an ongoing project for many years which can’t seem to finish. The first thing I started doing to flipping the layout of this wall. I then reorganized the bench storage reconsolidate what I left into category. Chops saws, table saw and cutting in one. Bench grinders and belt sanders in one the others. The next was to start organizing parts and hardware. I have some yellow bins I started using. This is for stuff to big for totes in file cabinet. I have to build a rack for these.

IIMG_1573.jpeg

I use old baking trays to sort hardware but no where to store them. This is just one of them.

IMG_1545.jpeg

I made a quick and dirty rack. It’s made from my 2x4 dunnage and old wire shelving.
IMG_1544.jpeg

IMG_1549.jpeg

That one way to deal with wire shelving in the attic. I kept it to make custom racks for toolbox’s.

This is the finished product on of this weekends project. It’s still a work in progress but definitely better.

IMG_1556.jpeg

IMG_1557.jpeg

I know people are saying it but isn’t this the way you had it few years ago? That would be yes… yes it is. There was nothing wrong with this layout but I changed it to fit more **** in garage. I think it was always a challenge to see if I could fit 10lbs and **** in a 1lb bag. Times have changed and a lot of me has too. I could definitely go down that rabbit hole discussing that topic. It’s an unpopular topic and not the GJ way. I can discuss it if people want too? Let me know. Anyway… I’m happy with the reverted layout. Definitely opened up some bench space to work now that the mobile table isn’t here. It was good to clean up and organize some of the little bits. I think down to only one clear bin, one yellow bin, one baking tray. One of these days I’m going to go back and see when I stared this hardware project.

With hardware, I know we all end up with lots of nuts and bolts from all our little projects we do. I always like to reuse the OEM bits if appropriate and keep whatever comes with the new part. I try and put them straight away into a bin so they dont sit on my cart though thats typically where they end up. Every few years I get tired of it and just dump all the extras into the trash and start over. Sometimes sortimg it is more work than just buying what you need. There are several sites that sell truly impressive nut and bolt kits. Most come presorted too so theres no need to mess with sorting it all. Shop looks good cleaned up!

Thank you for the compliment.

There was a time not too long ago, where I had the shop all cleaned up. I got into this routine of stopping a half hour or an hour before I had to do something and cleaning up. I’m talking put tools away put hardware back where it belongs. Unfortunately with all the stuff I have going on I kind of got out habit of doing that. I believe that if all the unsorted hardware ended up missing one day I wouldn’t be upset about it. It’s the frugal part of me that really doesn’t wanna toss it. I think I’ve wasted way too much time over the years on saving it and organizing it for the amount of times it got me out of a bind.

Looks really good do you hire out?
Thank you.

You know it’s funny years ago I looked into maybe starting a garage organization company. I just recently looked into it again but this time not starting it myself. I would prefer working for someone and maybe being a designer or consultant. I’m 51 and plan retiring at 55. Well at least from this company. I’ve been there 28 years currently. I’ll do that after retirement. 🤣

With that many deer around, you will never be able to grow some plants and fruit trees. They will constantly be eating them.
We love having the deer around. My wife loves watching them every morning on the camera. When we’re up there, she gets up first thing in the morning to watch them and after dinner, we sit outside wait for them to come back. Who knew that a couple ring cameras and a deer feeder would make her this happy. We are up there maybe five weeks out of a year and whenever else we can do a long weekend. Down the road, we might have an idea for a garden. Definitely would like to do some chickens or goats.

Now that I have a clean work area it was time to knock out few projects. One project was modifying my 3 point hitch for the Kubota.

IMG_1590.jpeg

IMG_1589.jpeg

The problem is the space between top link and where the ball attaches is really tight. When backing into the trailer your hitting the locking latch on trailer. The other thing is looking to mount other items via using old hitch’s. This mean I need a receiver hitch tube vs this idea. I went to HF and got a 18” receiver tube.

IMG_1574.jpeg

I used my Bauer/ Hercules bandsaw/ chop saw.

IMG_1576.jpeg

It doesn’t cut bad but it will go off line if push it. I cut the tow hitch and tacked the tube in place.

IMG_1577.jpeg

Here’s where things get frustrating. I went to 2 stores to get my argon tank exchange and nobody had an argon tank. I also pickup up some 6013 sticks to trying my TIG welder as a stick. Oh the price of welding rods went through the roof. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I think got wrong rods because when I used to use a Lincoln tombstone I used to weld decent. Maybe they were 6011 I use before but I couldn’t get a decent weld. I broke out the Lincoln 140 to flux core weld it. I had to do flux core because forgot that tank is low too. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I was getting some decent welds but breaker kept tripping. 🤦🏻‍♂️ That’s something new although I was running it at max heat setting. I was really looking forward to getting some time welding on some thick metal getting some better results, but it wasn’t in the cards so here’s to finish welds.

IMG_1579.jpeg

I even took it outside and gave it a fresh coat of Kubota orange. You know I was feeling pretty bad about my welds until I looked at what this thing looked like from the factory. I can say mine look better. 🤣

While the hitch is hanging with paint curing

IMG_1604.jpeg

I thought I would get started the another reason to modify the hitch. When I got the tractor I also got this winch with the deal.

IMG_1587.jpeg

The idea was to make a portable hitch so I took inspiration from the 3000 other people would did same idea on YouTube. I went to HF and got a plastic ammo box. I had a 12”x48” 1/4 plate sitting in shed I’ve been kicking around from Mr Eddies garage. I cut a 12”x 12” piece to mount everything to.

IMG_1586.jpeg

For power into the box I used this welding leads connecters that’s been sitting in a drawer.

IMG_1601.jpeg

IMG_1596.jpeg

I started placing things in the box. The cable management ***** because the cables are long. I might repurpose this winch so better to keep them way they are for time being. I still have to mount the switch.

IMG_1600.jpeg

At end of the night where I ended up.

IMG_1602.jpeg
To be continued…

Yesterday night I got the old hitch welded to the plate.

IMG_1607.jpeg

I had much better success this time. I used a different 20 amp plug in the garage this time around. No popping the breaker this time and welder didn’t exceeded the duty cycle. After that I rattle canned some paint.

IMG_1610.jpeg

For the electrical connections I’m currently using an old set of jumper cables. They are 12 feet long and should reach from the back of the tractor to the battery in the front of the Kubota. It might change in the future and most likely will. This is just to get it functional and usable.

Here it is everything bolted down ready to go to GA.

We went up to the property for a 3 day weekend. I mowed the areas I’m maintaining currently with the zero turn. It’s was sure a time saver. Think it took me 4 to 5 hours on mower alone. It was a little tall but huge time savings. I tried hitch on tractor.

IMG_1625.jpeg

This was just a test fit. I didn’t get any QTT this weekend. I think I settled on the parking arrangements.

IMG_1626.jpeg

This will work out nicely because I can go right from washing them off to parking them inside. I can also fuel them up on the way out. Yes I know the tractor is filthy. She definitely needs a bath. And talking about parking this idea is kind of working out. We parked the car in the drive-through and then can easily drive out, load up, lock up and leave.

This picture doesn’t do it justice, but had a beautiful sunset on Saturday night.

Well there’s been some progress at property. I went up few weeks ago to get few things in Ga and have friend work on truck. He had some fun driving tractor around.

IMG_1721.jpeg

First order on business was to take care of the brush pile. It’s been an eye sore where I put it so it had to go. I had to call the Georgia department of forestry to get a burn permit and permit only good for that day. It was a cold morning but man the fire got hot.

IMG_1682.jpeg

IMG_1684.jpeg

Next order of business was to deal with area behind the barn where tress where dropped.

IMG_1685.jpeg

This was one of the main reason I bought the Echo 620 with 27in bar. These were walnut and white oak trees. My neighbor said he was interested in the wood since he sells firewood. This is just some of them. I got more to move.

IMG_1686.jpeg

It’s getting there

IMG_1772.jpeg

Fast foward 2 weeks and I cleanup up and leveled the existing burn pile area and hopefully will get some grass to grow in summer.

This week I decided it was time to take another shot at area by the gate. For reference this when I bought the property.
IMG_8130.jpeg

IMG_8128.jpeg

This is what it look like after last attempt.

IMG_0331.jpeg

Over the summer a lot grew back in. So now armed with tractor and my “ special attachment” I decided to see how far I could get this time.

IMG_0786.jpeg

IMG_1780.jpegIMG_1782.jpeg

IMG_1783.jpeg

I also trimmed the fence line some more. Farm truck time.

IMG_1789.jpeg

I needed a new burn area so decided to do a proper one. I used box blade to cut away the grass. The ground was to hard to dig deeper. I can use dirt to fill in areas but for moment thought a burm would keep it out of sight.

IMG_1785.jpeg

This area is kinda a crappy area. It’s actually area I showed before just now difference perspective. I think this will turn into a cool campfire area. As long as don’t make pile too trees shouldn’t be an issue. It’s about a 35 circle.
