Welding cart looking great. I found out that around here, if I can paint with Krylon and dry in the sunshine, it sets pretty fast. Our winds have been pretty warm and around 8-10 MPH, so I set up sawhorses and shoot the items, and insure that they will be in the sun for around 2-3 hours. It is almost like a baked on finish. Wood is different, but metal seems to set quickly in the sun. Of course I am learning as I go on it.

Looking real good!!

Best Regards
Herb

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

Other things done today. I added 12 in to bench
u6ubarer.jpg

e4epybug.jpg

rybynyqy.jpg

Now its really tight on DP but it works. I can use it here or
4yda5ube.jpg
pull it out which seem to do.
ydure2az.jpg

So here's the new bench layout
yqybery4.jpg

The welding table will get more work with smaller wheels.

The bench extension made me REALLY realize how much bench dips in middle. When I came up with idea for floating bench or using a big *** shelf for a bench I never intended for it to be working bench. Work was to be done on mobile units which I still do but I never designed to for vises, tool boxes and work I've been doing. I glued and screw this so I can just easily just flip that 2x4 and like the unrestricted nesting area. The side supports just was a stabilizer when I use and banging on table. I noticed that it dipped after I originally painted it years back. I think the gallon on wet paint I painted it with warped it and It gotten worst with use.

Wow !. Brilliant build. Want to do something similar in mine. Just an idea. Why not raise the small craftsman chest and make it into a bench seat for use when working at the main bench. This may also give a little more storage underneath as well.

Thanks Alwie, That's a great idea and I have a vinyl seat that would fit that probably. I always had a office chair and a small stool to use at bench but wonder if I can add that to future plans for that chest. I have plans to make that chest look like the rollers next to them when and if I find a 1970 10 drawer chest. Thanks again for the comments and ideas.

The new layout looks great. Very efficient. From the pics posted I like the paint scheme you picked with silver frame/red inserts.

Thanks, craftsmans where red just faded and dirty. I just tried to tie it all together. I still got some work to do on bench to get it visually cleaned up, figure out some placement and long term plans.

Great work Gerard. The boxes look good. One thing to think about is separating your files. When they are plied like that they rub on each other and lose there edge. I'm guilty of the same thing, but am going to make a separator like others have done for pliers.

Thanks you, your absolutely correct with the files. I had something years ago when I had a ton less files. I'm interested in seeing what you come up with. I just put them in there until I found a good solution.

Paint work is looking great. I especially am falling in love with the MBC box. That one is going to be a real treasure for you. I am sure you can find a lock to fit it.

Thanks Herb, as much as I love that mbc if I find that 10 drawer cman to match my others it might have to find it a new home. When that time comes take a road and its yours for the GJ friends discount.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

I'm seriously believe CL is trying to kill me. There are so many good deals out there on good stuff its always derailing my planned layout.
Here's a good roller thinking 1960s
http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/tls/4495522177.html
That's a nice vintage box too and $50 I would jump on it but no room.
I did find a 10 drawer for $70.
http://daytona.craigslist.org/tls/4476357193.html
Problem is its 132 miles away and a 2hour 35 min drive. Figuire chat time and pit stops I'm looking min 6 hours and 264 round trip.

Ill find one closer it just matter of time and patience.

My Garage:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=243729

Its still on CL. I can't believe nobody has grabbed it. I'm tempted to buy it just to save it before something bad happens. I informed the wife that I'm getting the vintage craftsman 10 drawer when I find it no matter what and then ill decide faint of the mbc. This has to be first time I'm really digging feet in the sand and sticking to the plan I have. Thank you for that comment they dp mean a lot.

http://daytona.craigslist.org/tls/4476357193.html Good buddy, I would be there getting that chest with tools for $70.00. The tools alone might be close to what they are asking for all of it. That looks like a great chest.
Don't feel bad, just buy it and write it off to P&L or capital improvements!

Look on my thread at the one I scored today for $8.00. Yep, "eight".

Best Regards
Herb

Here she is the missing link to my garage. I changed plans somewhat when I found this one. The date code 1985.
re5y8eby.jpg

6udyhasa.jpg

juha6age.jpg

Its 29 wide x 30 tall x 18 deep
This thing is stout. I believe was used in hospital cause of old medical supplies that fell behind bottom drawer. Missing key and one waterloo clip for bottom drawer. Except for that thing looks almost brand new. She's 3inchs wider and 1inch taller than others but man I like her.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

Well, Thursday night came home and just got frustrated and got into what I call " get rid of **** mood". I got rid of tools that didn't work, scrap pieces of wood and just **** I was holding onto for I might need this occasion. I just started throwing stuff in my truck and went to dumpster and tossed it. I'm thinking that I tossed enough stuff for the garage gods to give me this. LOL.

I always said I wanted the 10 drawer but this was what I wanted to build in the end so its done without laying a bead or cutting anything. A repaint and caster change and that's done. In the end I got my tool box for a good price and spent rest of night in Clearwater Beach enjoying the night with the wifey. Who said that Friday the 13th was a unlucky bad day. I think I got pretty lucky.

A good purge of junk we accumulate is a good thing every once in awhile. And, the reward is making room for something new that's way better than what we got rid of. I'm learning that lesson the hard way too.
Good find on the chest and anxious to see it re-painted.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

Thanks Herb. I am really happy about finding it. Its really hard to find these. I don't think I've seen a 7drawer lower like this. I seen the ones like ours the taller bottoms but a 7 drawer with a 30 in tall box from Craftsman with same drawers I havnt. Its has same size drawers as ours but sides are bigger putting ours from 26.5 to 29 wide. Im confused alittle on badge. Its a sears/ craftsman badge like that box you just got but in those years they used craftsman badge not sears I believe. Maybe cause it was a industrial box vs there reg retail line? Since getting into vintage boxes I like to learn all I can about them so when looking I know what I'm looking at.

Emeraldcoupe and DHS have a Craftsman 10 drawer chest and love it. They live in area and was thinking of sneeking over and borrowing theres. LOL I found another guy who had one but he wouldn't part with his either.

When I saw this I said that's the box. I didn't barter or anything. It was $75 and now that I've looked it over closer and realize its a industial box of sorts. This one was used in medical field somewhere. I know its first needs perfect and also I think I got a unique box.
