Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

I was gonna go to HD tonight and get 2 2x4 or 1 4x4 10ft long with some crown in them
That's funny, I'm always looking for just the opposite at HD or Lowe's, without much luck :). It's amazing how much you still need to pick through the "premium" wood to get something straight these days.

(Good idea for your situation though!)

Hey Shopnut. You not kidding about the lumber. I had gift card at Lowe's so went there. Omg there was **** in the stack so went over and got some PT. They where straight but heavy probably cause it was wet. The other seemed too soft.

Hahahahaha.....

I don't know about the woodworking. My father in law is the woodworker but I'm doing some tonight. I'm reinforcing the bench.

Well I am just blown away!! You have a whole assortment and they look well used. No self respecting carpenter would want a "new" hammer. Next your going to send me a photo of your hand with a missing finger, that you got sweat in your eyes while framing a house, and sawed off. LOL.

Best Regards

Ok folks, I had a brain malfunction tonight. First went to Lowe's and couldn't find what I needed. So I went with some heavy straight PT 2x4x10.
7epe8yza.jpg

I start on bench. This ***** cause I use construction adhesive and its a pia to just remove without messing up something.
bynybe3u.jpg

Here where I lost my brain. I knew that I had one plywood, 2x4 and knew I could fit other. Ok so I screwed both together thinking ill make a header. Ok great idea? ******* me added wrong. I thought 3 inches and it's 3 1/2 so had to laid them of flat again. To raise bench a 1/2 would take all day cause of whats involved. My 7 drawer barley fit
epaqeqyd.jpg

i already know welding table not gonna fit without caster change.
Check this out floor dips this much.
Welding table

Level on bench.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

Ok next issue is bench STILL dipping in center.
y5udysav.jpg

This is if I jack it level back to front.
yqazu6u9.jpg

I thinking this is issue. Theses brackets need to be BEEFED up and thinking that will solve my dipping issues. I will make some from angle with gussets
uzu8epas.jpg

So $20 buck wasted but not really cause I really like one piece of wood across front on bench so not total waste. SINCE I didn't glue this one if it dips I can unscrew and flip it cause it is TP and felt wet so.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

There's not many guys that would say they want there junk a 1/2 inch shorter. LOL I would in this case.

utu4eny4.jpg

I started off with the 7 drawer being 2 1/2 inches longer which screwed up everything. I figured I would look for another roll bottom but figured at 26 1/2 inches like others allowing room for everything to fit. Now only place I can get that space back is here.

uru2e7y7.jpg

Now I have design a whole new hinge system which tucks whole flip closer to the frame.
Ok need to mod the welding table, make new brackets for bench. Ok its foward progess with alittle back tracking. One more maybe two nights to get stuff done.

I starting to do some fun stuff which was at a point I was hoping to get to with this whole push to finalize things. I got to paint some of the hardware for my machinist boxes.
y6a6ysu3.jpg
I kinda disappointed with paint thinking it would be chrome cause of the cap on can but still better than before.
y4abe6un.jpg

Also did some work on badges.
ymygu5u8.jpg

I can't wait to put this one on.

I'm drooling over those woodworking tools. Some excellent hand drills. Nice brace and bit. I did not know you had that Craftsman hip roof box. You better lock that up tonight. I am a gentleman and a thief you know! That set needs a total uptick and you will have a real treasure. But not today or tomorrow, go play in the Florida sand.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

I know tons of people who decide to take HF44 or other boxes off their casters and make them a built in unit. While they look GREAT what happens if they need to MOVED? Honestly what you then? Here's proving a point of why I dont. I needed to get the 4 drawer off the floor and attached to one of the 44s.
ruve9ygy.jpg
I know they have holes for the side cabinets so I needed to roll out cabinet to locate them..
y4a5u7ez.jpg

No offense to ppl doing it but I don't really see the gain to it. I know there's a height difference but the change is minimal considering you put into a frame and adjustable feet.

hey Gerard, don't know if you saw this-
http://tampa.craigslist.org/psc/tls/4552196067.html

I was tempted, I like the bottom box.
Thanks for the info. Dude for $80 I don't think you can go wrong even if you keep the bottom .After I got that 7 drawer bottom roller I have too many boxes now. I should say I flat out of room too put them all and trying to figure out where to fit 2 chest now.

Well I got the 4 drawer attached.
I used previous holes holes in box.
gyty4a5e.jpg

I attached a old table saw piece of angle to box.
a9enybyr.jpg

Okay now with box attached here's the secret of how to get it in place.
vebubuvy.jpg

Move fridge out that I purposely added long cord and water line I installed previously to do this plus move fridge out if needed and keep stuff hooked up.
I move right box over put the left in place and move right back.
Finished project note I still need paint and work but got it off ground.

Mounting the small 4 drawer looks good. And for small garages especially I agree with leaving the rollers on. To each his own taste I guess but when space constrained it does make it helpful to be able to move things out and around as needed.
Hey, your paint jobs are looking good, when do you put some of those painting skills to work on the Fridge? Craftsman colors maybe with a badge or two attached?

Thanks man, I like the built it look myself and thought about it. The argument I have against it is " the what if factor". Say you get a divorce and need to move quickly or if you need to get in that wall for for a busted pipe. A lot of scenarios could happen. I guess I think too much into things when I build things.
The fridge I had some ideas of doing something but since it divides the garage in half visually I havnt really made I choice. I had my licence plate collection on it and I might rivit them cause magnets didn't work to well with opening and closing it. It needs something cause its only odd color item in garage.

All the work you've done looks great! Great job painting everything...it can be a tedious task!

I'll be interested to see what you come up with for the fridge!!!

Over the weekend can't say I've done really anything but moved stuff around some. I've been looking at " areas of opportunities" to do something. I have come to a decision on few things. I've decided on on vise per bench and decided use of one chest. Right now I have the cman there.
rusapega.jpg

yjyzuham.jpg

It will go on a shelf/ riser idea but I have a problem.
The craftsman matches the bench with my others but I really love the mbc there also. I have a tough decision. Whatever box doesn't go on bench get made into a service cart. The mbc 26w15d17h and the craftsman 26w12d15h. The craftsman fits better and takes up less on bench and matches bench theme. Those sizes also makes it better for a service cart and would be pretty freaking awesome to have a 1970 themed service cart. The drawer layout makes the mbc a really great bench chest but also the size of the mbc makes that a great service cart.
avuzu2uh.jpg

ajyqy5ev.jpg

Tough decision.

Ok, when meant done I meant set up. I got some electrical tp finish, lighting to finish, and some odds and ends. The whole sink w/d area is getting done in Feb 2015 when I get tax return. Getting the wifey new w/d and that's going inside so lawnmower will take that place. I will always have projects to do but looking foward to doing fun projects vs building if that makes sense.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

Well, found this today
rehese7u.jpg

Its a 12 ft sq ez up tent. I have no idea just yet what I plan to use it for but me and wifey been looking to get one. Only problem is that it won't fit in new truck with only 4ft bed at least with the cover on. The canopy is missing but a nice canvas tarp would be nice. To top off the night I did a fun project..... Got some of the hardware back of my machinist boxes.
y8u9y3yt.jpg
de9uqure.jpg

I didn't rechrome them but painted them
5eme9une.jpg

This is paint I used.
u5a6ebez.jpg

I'm really liking that gray against silver. I'm gonna use it other places in garage for stuff like hardware and such.... Will see

Nice finds!
Thanks man, I really loving that little craftsman box. You really can't beat that price even of I just throw it on bench and throw some junk in it cause it matches my theme. I never planned on a silver and red craftsman theme but I'm surly heading down the road.

I started to get little frustrated with the work bench so decided this will help me out.
erygy7eg.jpg

Drawn up a little layout of the work bench and thought maybe this would help. I trying to keep like tools and functions together. It seems to be working with a few drawers done. I just wish the vintage craftsman boxes you where able to move drawers around like newer boxes.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

I wanted to make I different post. I wanted to teach something. Now some might know or do this but this those that don't know might find this interesting.

I've been using bed frames and scrap for all my welding and being I had 2 frames I thought I would show my process for making something useful from someone's junk. I put frames in my jawhorse or workmate and you with a 4 1/2 grinder grind down the rivits you'll the are flat.
apaheby3.jpg

suhy8a5a.jpg
.
Then I take hammer and punch and bang out rivits.
5aputynu.jpg

Sometimes you separate the parts. If they come apart and still have a rivit left grind that down then smack that out. Repeat Repeat Repeat for all the joints.
After about a hour I got this.
I got 12 useable pieace of angle with longest at 6 ft.
za7ujyma.jpg

8 90° brackets.
dyve6ade.jpg

Some wheels
zu3yryze.jpg

And coolest piece.
medevy8y.jpg

Mount piece with studs to wall and build a shelf with other and now a homemade ADJUSTABLE shelf.

Now I did this for a simple reason. If your willing to take a hour or 2 get little dirty you could end up with some FREE useable steel. Granted this isn't steel yard stuff but next time you go down the aisle where the steel is at HD or Lowes and see how much a 4ft angle piece is........ Youll be shocked......

Totally agree on the angle iron. I never buy it but constantly look for old bed frames and salvage pretty much like you are. I can get them for free or $3-$5 at garage sales. It's sorta funny around here when someone tries to sell them for $20 or more in a garage sale then ends up putting out at the curb for free.

Looking forward to see some of your project uses.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

I usually make some dollies, welding table, or a rolling cart with the angle. I'm really not sure exactly plans. I've been thinking about the 2 craftsman chests and the mbc chest. I have the HF bench done no changes happening there. Then I have the DP and welding table. I could do changes there maybe incorporate a chest instead of that bottom roller or remake the welding table with a chest. I really drawing a blank on finishing touches on work bench. I also been thinking of selling the MBC to a dear friend. On other hand I also have a idea to build a HF service cart idea with it. Problem I'm having is that I know where my mower is going, my chair, stool, and current cart is going to be stored to fit both cars in garage by this Feb. I'm just confused and out of ideas.

Here's what I gotta do to fit 2 cars.
Vintage stool goes up of bench.
vehe8a8e.jpg

ra2ebuqu.jpg

Now the W/D will go inside the house. I decided to do that when we get new units and that will happen tax return time. My chair and current cart blocks the door.
uty2e4at.jpg

ete8ygug.jpg

So this is what I have in the way besides the mower.
2aqety7a.jpg

I thought this out but didn't have new truck planned. I planned my supercab ranger and wife's passat here. Now its the sport trac and my ranger.

I did mock up this idea.
ysuquvyp.jpg

I still havnt found final place for air hose but like keeping all the craftsman together for a uniform look.

Hey buddy-roo! You got things looking well in there. You even have a little jointer! When are you going to start turning out some bookcases, hutches, tables, and cabinets?
You did a bang up job on the Craftsman boxes. I like the look!!
