Hey buddy-roo! You got things looking well in there. You even have a little jointer! When are you going to start turning out some bookcases, hutches, tables, and cabinets?
You did a bang up job on the Craftsman boxes. I like the look!!

Best Regards
Herb

I honestly don't know but once things settle down in garage I thought about making some shadow boxes.

Taumac, you have done a awesome job with the space you have. I may "borrow" a few of your ideas for my own garage. I love the old craftsman machinist tool box. It's also inspiring to see a working man's budget build, since my garage build is basically no budget lol. Now I just need to go work out in mine and do some updates. Thanks and keep the updates coming!!

Thanks you. Those comments mean so much. I really done this garage on a beer budget. Of course I've been buying a few things as of late but I've always try to make my money go as far as I can and spend it wisely. That's a point I try to make with this thread. Its very easy for a average working guy seeing all these beautiful garages on GJ and get discouraged. I've been there myself. You just got to get out there and do it. Make the most of it and make it your own vision of what you want. When you start your garage thread let me know so I can follow. Best of luck.

nothing right now, but I want to cut down a piece of frame to use in the vise to bend some sheet metal. I need to make a couple of patches for my truck. a poor mans brake.
That's cool... I've thought of making one of those also. How big do you need? I might have a few cut pieces around that might work.

I bought my shelves, cabinets and work benches at SAMs Club. Nice enough for the money but I like the do it yourself look that yours has. Reminds me of the way you would expect to see Dad or Grand-dads shop. Just has a well organized vintage look about it I guess. :)

The only benefit my approach had is the ability to take most of it with me if we ever move.

That's a good look with stuff from Sams Club. If I had to move for a reason I can take everything in garage easily but the shelves. Although most of the shelves I would leave here choosing to build new at new place. Actually it would all depend on new garage what I would do but I would keep a lot of the same layout.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

Well yesterday made a deal to swap the welding table for ANOTHER craftsman bottom roller. So today I finally used it for first and last time
hy2egeny.jpg
.
With some deals in the works here and there I decided to revisit a old project. I was trying to figuire out what to do with this MBC chest. So I remade the service cart with the tool chest calling it my HF inspired service cart.
bapu4uba.jpg

My thought was to try this idea again and make it beefy enough to put multiple use with possible a welding top, maybe some vise holders etc. This is how far I got on it.
y6asy2a4.jpg

The box is giving me issues since its a 1965 box and strong yes but its alittle racked and my welding not the greatest cause of warpage. So hopefully soon ill get that box if not at less I can move this around the garage.

I thought it was nine4gmc that has a fetish with things you can "put things in". I think you are getting close!

Back at my mom's place. I still have my dad's old toolbox like this. I just don't have a place to store it at home right now!

Nice score, by the way!

LMFAO, thanks man.

My friend saw it and called me but I had no room and he loved the welding table so I said If he bought the roller I give him the welding table. I just ran down today and got it. I'm just giving him the welding table cause he can use it more than me and for all the things he done for me over the years. $25 between friends is nothing for what we done for each other. Win Win in my book.

Well tonight I broke down the new roller.
Caster change.
yhavu8yr.jpg

I love the fact they had many pre drill holes for different caster size.
I used cheap 2in like did on others.
gy5udy3u.jpg

Size difference
anygerup.jpg

Ill reuse the good old casters on other project.

There's a old dirty saying if something doesnt fit spit on it. Well I did and it fit LMAO
sa9uga5e.jpg

ty5asyhy.jpg

I did it again. I made something cheap look expensive considering Ive seen this look pulled off with way more expensive lists style cabinets. Granted those look freaking awesome but I don't have that budget. This is a poor working man's garage.
8u6e6uga.jpg

I figure I spent $210 on these craftsmans plus paint. Now I have to figuire how to make a extra inch in this bench cause they are so tight I CAN'T roll out DP now.

Hey Alex I'm thinking of this.... Nine4gmc did this awhile ago.

zy6y4yge.jpg

I loved the paint he did and it so happens that I have........

The same vise......
uha3e7az.jpg

I havnt decided yet I got cause I have theses bench vises.
u2y7u2u5.jpg

myqaha9e.jpg

dy2u9e8e.jpg

I like a small one on the HF bench so thinking shop king there and only 1 on entire bench. Crafts.an bench I can have 2 I like the 6in China one there but then have the Columbian, Craftsman or Prentiss to choose from for one spot. Prentiss is bad ***, the Columbian I good vise, and craftsman is so so but that paint job is killer. That gray one will go on service cart in a tube.

Well, thanks to your row of toolbox and my dad having a 2 drawer toolbox of the same vintage, I'm going to look at at lower with 5 drawers and a storage area today.

I might just start up a wall of toolbox like yours! LOL

I just brought home one of my Dad's old 4" Craftsman vices. Eventually. I'll get it all cleaned up and looking fresh again.

Here it is! Gave $70 for it, it's in great shape with minor scratches here and there. Plus it came with the key! The guy put carpet in it and it kept the drawer from getting damaged!

I got other stuff and I post them and more pics of the toolbox on the garage sale thread if interested.

"Prepare to Copy"!!! I have the EXACT model Craftsman vise that is showing on the last page, the one done by nineGMC. It currently sits on my workbench "in use daily".
But since you posted that one to my attention, well, (it's red and gray too) I just gotta copy it. Nine's looks great!!! I hope I can bring mine up to that.
Your tool boxes look great. Keep up the great work!!!

Best Regards

I forgot to comment on box. Its a great well made box imo. Its not the lightest thing even empty. I'm sure you can find a place for it. What about a small color match tool box for your bus? If not that one a vintage craftsman would look cool. Ok not original but would mixed your VW and Garage passion.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

I can't say I've been doing much cause its been hotter than Satan's *********. LOL A saying I picked up from a friend. Life and such also been taking up time but did enough to require a update.

I did get the wife a different car. So wanting to get BOTH in garage I did the following things.

I moved the riding lawn mower to my dads until I do the move on w/d inside.

The welding table is gone.

I also decided against the new roller I was making.

So with all that I had to make a temp set up the gain floor space.

Temp layout for HF bench.
356abc61f7db4dc4b47cf830cfa74099.jpg

With the new car being smaller it allows me to store my cart and chair in front of tool boxes.
56a552bd30cca1a4c4a7199341218e84.jpg

I will use the chest in future project TBO.

I decided for time being to put the mbc on some wooden boxes off the bench.
7d2405b20a2d67682043a8a003e99b4f.jpg

My newest old bench vise. A 1917-22 Prentiss 19.
696836259f402f2eee740f536600eab3.jpg

That's it far now. Gotta do some tweaking on some stuff and clean off the benches, and some planning on next moves.

Nice vise you got though!!
