Thanks man. I appreciate that. After getting all the stuff I wanted its sure tight at times. I usually have plans after plans set in head if I find this or that. I always try to stay flexible with things which help being at this stage it moved 3 things to make room for one. LOL. Waiting for garage to explode. LOL.

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

I have to agree that the most interesting threads are those guys like you who do what it takes to make your shop your own. Most of us (especially me) have a certain amount of space to work with. If I had logged all the times in the last 30 years I have changed my garage around, I would have worked enough to retire on that labor alone. We change to fit in what benches, shelves and tools we have at the moment. It is a never ending frustration to make it just what we want. LOL--"One" of the reasons I put wheels on my stationary tools is just because I got tired of pushing and pulling them from one spot to another trying them out here, there, and then just to put them back where they were. I have come a long way since then.
I have actually "run out" of space. But I have never been happier than I am now with the way I have things.
You make it work, and it looks good. So my hat is off to you!!!!

Best Regards
Herb

Thank you Herb, you always have the nicest things to say. I have a smile from ear to ear and laughing along with you. I told my wife about what you said about moving stuff around and she busted out laughing cause its so so true. I would have whole garage torn apart over a weekend and on Sunday when all back together she would say, everything is is same place. LOL

10 drawer project.
Last night I took all the drawers out and gave front a scrub and wire brush the pulls. The drawers are in good shape and will probably just freshen up the fronts
d74a63c3ef07e895c5199c5388696867.jpg

As far as the box there are no dents but its gonna get fresh coat of hammered paint and top needs some filling and sanding.

Left side is pitted good.
And decided its final location will be here after bracket mods.

The 6 drawer will be part of a TOP SECRET project I've had in my crazy brain of mine.
Right now the MBC chest Ive been kicking around is empty and will get used to store tools from the 10 drawer and 6 drawer boxes as I work on them.

Well other night I got some sanding done on new craftsman chest. Today got some painting done on it.
d22ca3d04e6279295682bbd01d2704b8.jpg

First of a couple of coats I believe but getting the hammered paint down I think.
Another project started today is a small cabinet of sorts I found.
8240df3600e4a13259e21cd382683bdc.jpg

Its heavy guage metal and had to get it from trash someone was tossing. Its been sitting around for a few weeks and decided I found a place for it.

Had one problem
28ac0a0e1edefeefbaf48816c92a61b6.jpg

Handle on top and door swung wrong way so flipped it and solved door and handle issue.

For color I havnt decided if red or hammered pewter just yet.

Thanks for stopping by. I'm spraying out of a can. This is what I been using cause it matches the old craftsman paint the best I found.

Now if you move slower and closer you can get this.

there's more color change.
I havnt figure that part out well without causing it to look blotchy yet. Here's what I'm talking about.

Jim.
I just tried a test panel for you.
7d0637cfd97a74b0ca93a4ef04d19a6d.jpg

The top right is look I'm trying to achieve which is a over metallic look which some color.
The left is holding can closer and alittle slower. You can see the blotchy pattern than occurs. This might change if using a gun vs can cause of the nozzle. A can more just fine for me although I don't get the full effect of the hammered paint.

taumac, thanks for the info. that looks like the same problem i was having. tried a few different spray patterns and just could not get a even spray look. i am a master car modeler and i am very good with a spray can but can not get an even coat with this stuff. ended up using a 3 inch roller with hammer paint out of a can. was better and switched to a 6 inch roller and worked even better. gave it a light sand and it looked much more even. any more info would help. thanks again. jim

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

Jim, I have notice today that the paint doesn't come out of a spray can consistantly. I believe if using a spray gun might solve that. I've also read lately of different cure times for spray cans vs quart cans for say. I think has something to do with spray cans and stuff added to make it flow or spray better. I do have nice small gun but never used it cause I never do big enough project and hate all the clean up involved. I usually part parts outside give a coat go work in garage and come out give another and so on.

I have similar issues with spray cans even with a straight colour it can be difficult to get a nice even finish. I moving back to using a spray gun on some things no matter how small even though the clean up is a PITA.

Got the drawers from my 10 drawer craftsman out and painted. Well first coat.

Using gloss apple red
4525e629bdc81cd37f5046dd274abaa2.jpg

This is the paint I found that matches my HF44.

If you caught it I switched paints one cause I had 4 cans of it and no krylon. I have a idea of wet sanding the paint I did on others and doing a top coat of the rustoleum. That's the plan at least.

Ok, I'm impatient. Got couple of coats on tonight.
4f4dd5d9c8822acd67cff84b3b2e51c9.jpg

Tip to those painting a tool box. I painted the outside first so when I got drawers painted I could use the toolbox itself as a drying rack. I believe they will take a week to cure so they can sit there for a while. I just wanted to freshen it up like others. All the boxes i painted where in great shape so I left all the insides untouched.

Love how you can bring those old pieces back to life. So tell me honestly, your driving around during your work day and see a piece on the side of the road that you want, do you pull over and through it in the truck or risk coming back later with your own car :)

You might get a better flow out of your spray can if you float them in a sink full of warm/hot water for a few minutes...

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

Well, since I made room to work on the HF bench I decided to tackle the craftsman bench. I got the 10 drawer up in the bracket I made.
0796932ab1bd21ca9d22f6b019a3bae2.jpg

I also moved the 7 drawer roller to make it look like a stack. Its a OCD thing. LOL
63f5ac3ae19baa713986d08593d284c5.jpg

Then in my infinite wisdom decided to rip everything off the wall and redo it.
f84797988b88e020a1649328a158d504.jpg

Its really amazing how much I had on wall. Heres the pile.
ebf29dcf44b8fe775e677daccd8c177c.jpg

I really really wanted to put the 6 drawer craftsman at other side on a matching bracket but all my electrical is in the way and I'm not moving it. I did moved it over to the next spot inline with bottom roller but it didn't look or function well there so its not going on the bench.

As far as vises go I got some choices.
93a04aae9bbfc4d90be0811e5fbec5b7.jpg

That big *** POS Chinese vise works better than the craftsmans but a copy of the one nine did looks awesome so I don't know yet.
Here's what I really like about bracket I did. It gives storage under it and allows me to use a vise in same place.

662025df20a8ed7cbaeb560a04825023.jpg

So I figured out first section of bench now to figure out the rest. I'm tired and so is Sammy

The workbench looks great! Lots of storage too. I bet the newly installed top box up high becomes one your favorite spots to stash stuff. Maybe perfect for drill bits with the press right there.

Thank you. I absolutely love that new box. That box has become super prime restate now. That would work being the DP is right there.
85c2ca84185fa187a2d74569edc947b0.jpg

I used old narrow bottom roller for a base and has all my DP related stuff but its a PAIN IN THE *** to pull it out every time I need a bit. I probably gonna throw a set in the new box but keep everything else in the DP cart.

Now I got all boxes accounted for and in place ( what I believe ) for the last I REALLY need to go through everything and organize everything.UGH

Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

Just a suggestion on the DP roller base...

It looks like the base squeezes pretty tightly between the adjacent cabinets and has 4 swiveling casters. Swivel casters don't always work that great in this situation because when you reverse direction, the base "wants" to shift to the side as the casters swivel 180.

I'm sure you don't want rigid casters on all four corner (which would make pulling it in and out the easiest), but maybe rigid casters on the two closest to wall would make things much easier for you.

Better yet, see if you can find some casters with locking swivels on them. They can be locked in most of the time for pulling the base straight in and out for quick drilling jobs. Other times, they can be unlocked for that rare occasion when you need to roll it around the shop.

Thanks, That's a great suggestion. That should be easy fix. Ill check if I have some if not I know I can get those at wally world or HF. All those I have on the bench are just cheap 2in casters.

Just read through your whole build and really enjoyed it. I like your elevated toolbox idea I might have to steal that one. I have a 10 ft workbench on my North wall and it has about 5 ft of useable space due to various toolboxes and cabinets.

Also like your idea for using magnets on the plates that go on the fridge will use that down the road as well.

Look forward to your next update subsd.

Another tip for you if using casters with swivel locks...

I stumbled upon this one purely by accident. If the casters can lock every 90 degrees, lock them at right angles as shown in this picture and the bench will not be able to move. It eliminates the need for wheel brakes or floor locks (like what I installed beforehand and never use now - wish I would have made the discovery it just a bit earlier :().

In my case, I lock the swivel caster at 90 degrees to the rigid casters in the back when I'm working on the bench in the middle of the room. When it's time to roll it back in its cubby, the swivel casters get locked inline with rigids to force it to roll straight in to the wall and pull back out easily.

Thanks Bret, I glad you enjoyed it. Only issue with that box is if you put it up too high you don't have access to top and can't lock/ unlock drawers. Although, its what works best in your situation is what matters to gain more useable work bench. In mine, storage under and being able to use vise (especially the bigger one) was more important.

The magnets worked ok. I didn't glue them too good and them would move when open and closing door a lot. I think by using 2 per plate vs the 1 would solve that.
Thanks for stopping by.

In my case, I lock the swivel caster at 90 degrees to the rigid casters in the back when I'm working on the bench in the middle of the room. When it's time to roll it back in its cubby, the swivel casters get locked inline with rigids to force it to roll straight in to the wall and pull back out easily.

That's really good info to know. The good thing about those I use is they don't move well. The bad thing about them is they don't move well. LOL. I gonna get some rigid ones for the DP. I can't go with a bigger caster cause then would be too tall to fit under shelf. Do they make one in 2in?

I do admit I've been lazy and the fix to my bench is making some huge L brackets to support bench better which then I can remove the 45° support by door and everything then will have enough space to move. I do have a upcoming project that will require dual locking casters. The info you gave will definitely help me with that project.
