Re: My "Shop"

MORE MAJOR ITEMS GOING..... made arrangements with fellow GJ members to do away with some items.

MBC chest...
The BIG *** press...
2 vises....

Even my Secret Santa will be benefactor of some stuff....

I decided the MBC chest was the odd ball box and its going to a good home where it will be restored and loved. [emoji1] I decided to go with a 1970's craftsmans theme. Any more toolboxes that come here will be from the silver/ red era.Although, I will only have room for one more bottom
[emoji17]
Clearing things out will give me some elbow room. I can make some moves now and even make some projects I've dreamed up. LOL

Have a good one, Gerard

Re: My "Shop"

Interesting info.... I had to get a weight for somethings today. The MBC chest weights 71 lbs and the nutbuster I call this thing.
45bea615077de0d00931bafe5cebdefd.jpg

Come in at 340 pounds and jack is 45 for a grand total of 385. ********.... Good thing I will only have to move it few more times. I might have to find my stones on the ground LOL

Re: My "Shop"

Well getting ready to ship the MBC and press so It gave reason to break out the welder. Ok making do with what you have fashion (Sean should love this) I made a pallet tool. I had metal from this and that laying around. Ok Shopnut queue the music.....LOL.

The pieces are some uprights from a jack, jack handle and piece of square tube. At this point I already cut them down to size needed.

After grinding and welding I ended up with the bottom part.

Now I welded the handle

989e69928a2f55121cccff241ce9f5db.jpg

Now the tool in action.
94342f5bfcb7395ae70d85015bf6b98b.jpg

Ok when I saw this tool on YouTube I saw it worked so easy. I don't know what pallets he used but it was harder then video seemed but I was pulling nail through the boards instead. I surly said it worked better than hammer and prybar.
Added benefit is that it stands up by itself.
b3509cc1756bbadc357d9f5b8fca0781.jpg

I use old pallet wood for my fire pit so free firewood and easier would to break up pallets is a good thing.

Great job! A simple but useful tool made from left overs in the garage. While I love all the threads on where to buy good tools etc. I love the home made re-purposing ideas the best.

Re: My "Shop"

On a wimb, I got of work early and decided to hit my little "honey hole" to see what's available. I ended up bringing this home.

Granted some painted it tan and burgundy but beside slight bend in handle so for its all good. I love that place cause it has been a source of odd vises for me.
Here's some.

I'm hoping someday I find something really awesome like a Craftsman 5198 but I'm very pleased with what I have found so far.

Nice scores and thanks for sharing your collection Gerard:thumbup:

I am trying to find a vise similar to your Luther, Mrs 1/2 Cup needs a small one for here beading so I thought what an ideal opportunity because if you are going to purchase a vise why not a nice old one. I came across this little gem on Ebay this morning.

Thanks, that's sure nice little vise and reasonably priced. I have a pair of ones similar. Here are those next to the Luther.
87273aa6ffba14f8d5651aed87f3bf7e.jpg

I don't see many like the Luther but those others you can find them much easier. Of course you need the big vises but the smaller one are so damn handy and nice to use.

The benches I have they are hard to clamp down cause of the thickness of my tops. Right now I use a scrap of 2x4 in another vise them clamp smaller one to that. I got a upcoming project in which will solve that problem. LOL [emoji1]

Re: My "Shop"

The last time I was in Brooksville, I drove the wrong way on Main Street. I got some funny looks but that was about it thankfully. The next time I'm up that way I'll have to go check it out. We have a big flea market here at the drive-in in Tampa. It's better than a regular flea market because it's more like a giant garage sale. I find some really neat old items there nothing major just small hand tools.

That's the same with this place. I like this place cause it has normal hours where I can't always get to swap meets and flea markets. I gonna have to take run down there. How often they do this sale at market?

Re: My "Shop"

I said a little while ago I was going to do a decluttering of the garage. Granted progress has been slow but I did get rid of some bigger items. I planning a remodel of the sink wall in about a month and didn't want to make any changes until I redo this wall.

So I decided to finally tackle the biggest and hardest area the organize which is my HF bench. I got rid of all the **** tools and sorted and organized everything. This area I've been working on for about a month here and there and this is how it sits now.

Some drawers need organiztion and homemade tool holders. The file drawer I've grouped all the files by brand. I will paint ends different colors to specify brand then sort by type of file. Then once that's done I will make a organizer to hold ALL files in place.
I will work on the 3 craftsman/ Kennedy's machinist next.

Thank you. That project has been years in the making. I put my tools in the boxes when I got them and say one day ill get to it. I collected tools after that and just added and added but never took time to really go through anything. Getting frustrated I said I got to clean this out and organize it and get rid of the junk stuff and only keep the good. I never bought things like a pipe wrenches or a file but acquired them from here and there. The files I noticed like Simmons had paint on the end I figured I would do something to all to brand them somehow. Then plan to sort them by shape and use. It seems like I lost few days of my life on them already LOL. What a pain in the *** but thinking once that's done I won't have to worry about them again for a while.

Went down to the local rural king and FINALLY pick myself up one of these.

A num 1 75/25 mixed tank for my Lincoln 140. I did spend alittle more than wanted but the the ability to go to any Tractor Supply or Rural King to exchange tanks should payoff. Can't wait to start burning wire now.

Well one on the sort out and rearrangement Gerard, looks fantastic.

Its a great feeling and sense of accomplishment to get a job like that out of the way. We / I tend to put off and put off doing tasks like that and then they end up in the too hard basket, I find myself as I am getting older getting a lot less tolerant and taking a more proactive approach to clutter as I ask myself "do you really need it, will you ever use it or is it just because I can, have you used it in the last 5 years " if not I pass it on to someone that can.

Regards

P.S. may be I should reflect on what I have just written :lol_hitti

Well, I thought I was the one on having a "thing" for pipe wrenches. Looks like your collection beats mine by two each wrenches, and you have the angled one. Great job on your organization of the drawers.

Re: My "Shop"

Thank you Herb. That HF box organiztion has been a long time coming. It might take up the least amount of space in garage but was the hardest to organize. I use those pipe wrenches a lot more than I thought I ever would and the smaller one are so damn handle to use also. I did kinda start a collection there didn't I? Well I can say they do take up less room then my Vise collection. LOL

Love the organization you did on your drawers. Everything makes good sense. It looks like you have red heater hose on your pliers. That's not a bad idea will steal that one.

Thanks you. The hose is actually 1/2 3/8 rubber air line with some being garden hose. I used whatever I had laying at the time. They work good and gave new life to some tools.

What brand is that side cabinet? Always looking for narrow cabinets to stash in small places.

Happy New Year!
I got that from my father. He drove a company van with one of those whole built in storage, tool box, bin system. When they retired his truck he pulled it out. I not even sure the manufacture of it.
