Looks great! I was tempted but was not going to say anything about the pink cabinets. Thanks to Herb for breaking that ice. Maybe get 2 quarts of red from Herb and then you can paint the fridge to match your theme. :)

Thanks, I know I was gonna catch grief about those pink cabinets. I gonna have to move that up the priority list. The fridge I still not sure what I gonna do. I was thinking red but I had plans to hang all my license plates and maybe so of my signs on it. If I do that I wouldn't need to paint. I know that's a detail item. Maybe a rainy day project.

I notice you added a piece of rigid aluminum dryer duct at the wall but used flex pipe from there to the wall pass-thru. Years ago my daughter had a completely clogged flex pipe in her laundry room and couldn't understand why it took two hours to dry a load of laundry. After I fixed hers, I checked the flexible duct at our house and while it wasn't completely clogged it did have a lot of int build-up in it.

Since I changed to all rigid duct, the only place lint builds up is at the flap in the outside outlet. I made sure all the male (crimped) ends of the rigid duct faced toward the outlet and used aluminum tape on all the joints (ducts are the only thing duct tape doesn't work well on).

I lived in a villa that ran flex from dryer up the wall through attic and out. It was clogged. I changed it all out plus doing 2 others on the street. I actually use to clean dryer vents in my inlaws development for side work.

I have a flex from dryer to inner wall with a quick disconnect. I have rigid in the wall taped and sealed. There rigid on outside wall which came with the new flapper. And flex for that short run.
I admit it's not a ideal set up but still tweaking it. That bend is really tight and a adjustable 90 didn't fit.

They sell a telescoping one but I could find a 4 in round to 2 by 4 rectangle transition. I'm going to Lowes soon maybe I'll grab pics of it.

Here's some of the pieces. I used this on garage wall.

Here's the premade end piece with flappers.
c2c19cb3357cea54db97e49ee0061a16.jpg

Now I wanted to use this cause of the tight 90 I needed.

88874099491c3053c366ec5959db671a.jpg

But they don't make a 4in round to the piece I needed. This was the closest without cutting it all up.

I had few options cause the wall and especially the vent stack from in the concrete to the roof. With dryer been left of stack ( looking at it from garage ) and having to snake it to that outer wall with the least amount of bends was tricky. I glad I found a way instead of going up into the attic.

Place is looking great Gerard. The new cabinets worked out well! Must be nice having all that space cleared out with the washer dryer move. Looking forward to your next projects(s). Enjoy a cold one for me down there in FL, it's pouring rain and hail here today!

Thanks man, Those changes that I did to the sink wall really has made a world of difference. I hoping to finish up final changes to shelves, benches, tool box assignments within next few weeks. I REALLY REALLY REALLY can't wait to start some fun projects i been planning. They will be some of the ideas/creations I've come up with.

Re: My "Shop"

Havnt been out in garage much but I'm got few small items done. I moved the wall cabinet and made room for my vintage sears creeper. It's a simple 2 x 4 with electrical conduit hold downs.

2191ffb6715556fc28e777d6b52de926.jpg
I have 2 other creepers in attic I use so this is just wall art but it still works just fine. My plan is just to clean wood, redo the pad. That's another rainy day project.

I also redid the shelf above my workbench and made it 8 feet
065315729f046a763c7a2dbaf25916d2.jpg
I plan to use this shelf for all my nut and bolt storage, parts and pieces, etc. To keep the stuff from falling off the shelf at least at the doorway I took a sample closet mate shelf bracket and bent to fit.
7be68f0f847fdf6d7d2018d6a90961de.jpg

Another idea I've been working on is to have a small shelf to hold my new 26 inch machinist box.
726ec13f85ffedbb372859001d825f9c.jpg
32c939b6feda4026589f620199279727.jpg

This idea I made from scrap from tearing down the shelves over in the sink area. This idea is trial run to see if this will work to hold the toolbox and a grinder or 2 and keep work surface clear to work. If this works then I plan to build a better and stronger version out of steel bed frame.

Another issue is dealing with a lot of part and stuff collected over the years. I did say many many post ago about clearing out some of the junk. I started doing just that.

Bins and bins of good stuff for ideas and project. Now that the garage layout is somewhat done now it's the time to go through ally junk and see what I'm going to keep and get rid of.
It's a tough and slow process but I'm getting there.

Been there and done that Gerard, at the end of the day there is nothing like a clean out.
It is truly amazing just how much stuff one accumulates over time and to that end just how much space it takes up.

I went through the clean out phase and to some extent it is an on going process here.

I really hate to waste things and mostly give stuff away if some one has a use for it rather than bin it.

All the best with your clean out.

Hey that is looking good. I like the Craftsman machinist box. Do you know the time frame when that one was made? Looks like a restore would work well on that box. The bench arrangements are good. That frees up space. I also have not had much time lately to spend in the shop, with the yard and such getting most of my time. I have some projects in the back of my mind, but next week is fishing at the Red River, so they can wait a while!

I believe it's late 50's 60's. It's the era of the crown logo which is a little hard to pin point. . It's a Kennedy 526 rebadged a craftsman but since Kennedy made it it's identical. The 520 is a 20in wide box and 526 is 26in wide. Kennedy never had a stamping system to date boxes so all mine are all different dates or eras but all the parts interchange. I like to pick them up can the offer a lot of store in a small package. You can find them relatively cheap. Sometimes people will charge more cause of the Kennedy name just like ppl do with Snap on. They are a fun project to fool around with even if not worth the money or time you put into them.

Don't re-finish and re-paint that creeper unless you plan to keep it forever and just for your personal enjoyment. It's worth lots more in its original condition should you ever plan to sell it. Sorting and purging, geez you had to start that frame of mind! It just tells me how bad I need to do the same thing. Good job and keep it up. Maybe your lead will inspire me.:)

Probably right on the creeper. Hell I found that at curb ready for the trash. I thought it worth saving and at least it would make cool wall art. I'm NOT looking forward to the cleaning out part at all. I'm hoping the Garage God will do it one day while I'm at work and come home with it all done. That hasn't happen so I've been procrastinating doing it.

Gerard,
After reading your thread I can say one thing for certain, you don't hesitate to completely change directions on your garage organization! I love all of the old Craftsman tool boxes, they just don't seem to ever show up around here and when they do they are gone in a flash. I look forward to what you have coming next so I'll be subscribing.

Thank you for taking the time to read my thread and thank you for your compliments. I find that any garage layout needs to be flexible. That can be a good thing or lead to more issues cause there's too many options. LOL

I love the old craftsman boxes and get them when I can. Even though I don't store hand tools in them they make great storage for things around the garage.

Re: My "Shop"

Just thought I'll let everyone know that I'm STILL alive. I'll admit I've been slacking some major *** lately in the garage. Been trying to sort through my stuff and it's been slow process. I have projects that I know I'm gonna do so keeping material on hand will save money. That said many bins I have I have dedicated to certain items. So yes I thinned down but since that bin still takes up same space empty or full it really doesn't show I've done anything.

Tonight I broke out the chop saw and made saw dust. I cut down a bunch of scrap or left over wood.
e84d11b5a8b509df529fb65260c0f4a7.jpg
I cut it all down to same length for easy storage. I believe I'm gonna make some cribbing. I will use that to jack the cars up really high while working on the since jack stands I have only go so high. The rest became firewood.
a906d6a6366b0a544640d1db1f2a2d44.jpg

Still havnt figured out bench.
e4c0717689bff068815eca63a9ccc4f1.jpg
I just got stuff and more stuff. Think is one area I must address.
5de2b6dbf25062480b3a0cbe73eca7da.jpg
It's packed plus all the craftsman wall boxes need a reorganization bad. It taking more and more time to get all the puzzle pieces to fit. Uggggghhhhhh!!!

Well I always heard you have to start with a good plan. Step One-invite ShopNut to your place for a long weekend. Lol.
The one thing this site has taught me is to have good storage; meaning accessible, function and to go vertical. The other is to subdivide the storage with bins/boxes/etc and group like things together. I brought about 30 of the clear plastic bins from HF and boy did the make for fast sorting. I too have a ways to go but now I have knowledge and storage. Now if I could get some time.

I thought it would work for that or something. It's easy to start a garage and make big gains but seems to take forever to make the smallest thing happen at stage in at. You pull it all apart and then look back and wonder how the hell did I get all that to fit.

****, that's a idea. HEY SHOPNUT I need you STAT. LOL. One problem I have is that if you followed me long enough is that I'm a cheap ******* is certain ways. I mean I don't like to spend money in my garage. Some will just go out and buy what's needed. I work with what's handed to me. It's then to me to make it work hell or high water. Most of the time I can but having a tough time lately. I should make a pile and call the GJ. First come first serve LOL

Great progress Gerard looks like you are streets ahead of where I am right now.

Thanks 1/2 cup. I really don't feel like I'm heading anywhere sometimes. Example is I cut up that wood to use as cribbing but now where do I store it? These are the problems I run into a lot.

"stuff and more stuff"
It does seem to accumulate doesn't it? You are not alone, My bench is a mess too from current project materials and just plain stuff. We just have to all keep on the similar track to re-evaluate, reuse, or reject the "stuff" that we accumulate. It's a constant battle but you are always doing a good job of keeping after it.

I agree totally. I thought at this point with most projects accounted for and planned that the place would be clean. In the pass I've thought of plans to make things better and only to find out that the original plan was the best. Case in point.
The DP and Craftsman stack:
Remember back after I got my HF boxes I moved things around changed this and that only to come back to something I did years back. Granted it great to have a fall back layout you done in the past but it seems I lost years moving things around.

And that is why this go round most everything is on casters.

After my divorce I had to mentally and physically get rid of a lot of stuff. My new place has twice the space but I'm growing tired of moving stuff from A to B or being in the way so I'm getting better at decluttering and freeing the mind.

Couldn't agree more on the casters. I'm getting there and just ran into a wall (mental block) on the puzzle aspect of things. I find things like a chain on events. Once in motion I'm good but I'm taking a new approach. NO starting new projects until I declutter. The only problem I have is that I need somewhat need to start some of them to declutter. LOL.

Do we all need to keep a hold of all the odds and ends we all have saved in boxes drawers and shelves? Answer===I think so but can't prove it on paper. I am constantly looking through my junk to find something to fix something. I usually have it somewhere. Angle iron is a good example. We all have a stash of it. So don't be too quick to purge.
In the Army we were taught to Paint it or clean it or hide it or throw it away. So that method is instilled in me.
You will be fine after a beer or four. Just wait and see if I speak sense or not!

I prefer the stash it away. I just ran out of places lol. I believe sitting in my "thinking chair" with a few beers to rehydrate from this Florida heat will result in some ideas or just get me a buzz. Only time will tell. LOL

Make a sign for this and hang it up:

FI-DO

I wont tell you all of it but the last two letters stand for "Drive On".

Friday night so I am well into my own stash of -------Irish Reds. This was an absolute essential necessity as I HAD to wash all that Beef Brisket down and there was just no other way----
