Option 1p is my favorite. It's option 1 but includes a painted wall.

I think you will like the power strip there.

I really like the openness and symmetry of option 1 but the far right reserved for the cart. Second choice would be option 3.

Are you getting rid of the HF44" roller? What are in the the two Craftman top boxes?

Ok I'm lost. Not getting rid of 44" and don't understand question about Craftsman top boxes?

If I understood your comment about easy re-configuration correctly I was thinking similar. Basically now you have the easy option of using 1,2 or 3 with just some basic moving of tool boxes. If you get tired of one layout then next month you could easily change it up.

PS. I'm starting to get the hint that Shorty really wants that wall painted!

Yes sir you are understanding correctly. I also know I'm looking for more boxes too so when that happens I can change the layout quickly. Right now I have it in layout 1 and find myself using this area.

This box hold many basic tools and so does the 10 drawer chest.

I'm working out in the garage today cleaning up and getting cars back in. Maybe if I got time maybe I'll get the paint out. LOL

I like #3 as well, but as several have pointed out, you aren't working in marble so you have the ability to move things around. One reason I like putting everything on casters, that way if after a couple projects or what not it just isn't working for me, I push things around. With the picture above, you loose some of the storage of that bottom top unit, and you end up with potentially a lot of items very low, might be a paint if you're pulling those tools out on any sort of frequency.

Okay Gerrard. You've inspired me. Although space is not a problem for me, I think I can tidy up a bit and be a little better organized. I may even start another thread that doesn't involve my work.

I think no matter what plan you go with(1,2, or 3) you'll probably change it down the road.:lol_hitti

Well, most of my hand/ mechanics tools are in the 2 HF 44. The boxes of the Craftsman wall are divided into categories and basically act as mobile storage. I like the look of old vintage craftsmans cabinets. Tool boxes are reality cheap for use as storage when compared purpose built cabinet plus many of mine don't store tools at all.

There really isn't one layout I'm choosing over another it's just what works for the week, month or even the project. There is the fact that I will find more of the era tool boxes so layouts where made if I find one.

Ok I can live with the fact I inspire you to get out there and do something. I really don't see myself changing that much once I get my final piece of the puzzle. I think it will only change when and if I ever move.

Paint. Did I hear someone say paint. :dunno:

Well that was a idea until I spent weekend doing everything else but my garage. To top off my whole weekend Sunday night about 2100 I started getting the chills and realized I came down with a fever. That lasted until this morning. I went to work disregarding my wife's thoughts. I could have stayed in bed another day but was in bed for over 56 hours only to get up to use the restroom and to get a drink. I couldn't spend another day in bed so sometimes getting up and moving helps you to get better. Well this time didn't help as much as in the past and half way though day I'm thinking damn she was right. So no paint no nothing is garage is getting done.

Re: My "Shop"

A small but good update. Sorry Shortykorte but it doesn't involve paint. I went the the Florida Flywheelers antique engine club event and while browsing the flea market area I got few new items.
0386296215424ed1ff5a9e328c90fa09.jpg
It's alittle rough but it does match my other one and now I have twins.
5e6180fa62adbe99cf8dd38c2e65cfa2.jpg
Both will get repainted and have a spot in mind for them.

I also got this.
a401a98549532695fb01dd499ac03935.jpg

It's basically a brand new vise. I must admit that CB " FORCED" me to buy them. LOL. I wasn't going to buy them but I've only seen 2 of the portable boxes and both I bought. The vise was to good to pass on. I glad he was there to talk sense into me cause in reality that stuff you just don't see around and time to buy it is when you see it.

That was Saturday and Sunday was another story. I brought home this.

64fb653a5ac6a9f09e3f53e698afaae8.jpg

It's a 24 deep and 48 wide. I can't go into to many details but I been eye balling this for awhile. I just didn't have a place for it. Everytime I went "there" it was still sitting out in the weather just wasting away. It was begging me to take it home. Without place to put it exactly what my plan for it I said that it's coming home with me. It's a damn shame to let something that was built so well and cost so much originally just go to hell. Now for a place to put it I decided it will go here.
95c9ae15febaae414e3667aac23d3dec.jpg

This meant I emptied the lateral file and put it back on its dollie ( it's good thing I kept it ) and moved welder out.
eedae13526e0d9b4f60ad92947b7f1cb.jpg

I have no idea where now these 2 items will go and what exactly the new table will become. Plus I know how I want the craftsman wall to look like when finished and that doesn't include a welding cart or lateral file. I guess got some thinking to do. LOL

You most definitely have some thinking to do Gerard:D

Glad I could be of assistance, it was fun to egg him on. It's also nice to see that I was with other cheap ***, I mean frugal brothers (Craptain was there) shopping among all the nice tools.

On your new shelf, I see that the CM tote trays fit in there nicley, see, you should of bought the one at the flea market.

Looks like some good finds at the Flea Mkt. Now the fun begins weaving them into the evolving master plan.

Well, that new table is something I always wanted. The idea of fully mobile project bench with multiple surfaces tops to be used on A to Z projects is what I have in mind. It almost goes back to my twin vise, flip up welding table and heavy table project I did years ago. Funny, that was a good idea and subconsciously I'm being it back through this project with all techniques I learned over the years.

Well someone has to be the scapegoat when the wife starts complaining. Yes I'm a cheap ******* which is why this garage is never done. That other tote was too different. Don't you see the theme of my garage. I like twins and the occasional 3 some. LOL.

Since I'm being a good scapegoat, here's some more:
This is coming up in an estate sale, I can pick it up for you. You can start a second CM wall, diffrent style of boxes::lol_hitti.
It's all apart anyway. Think how cool that would look.

My wife is gonna come down there hunt your *** down. LOL. There can only be ONE "WALL OF CRAFTSMAN". I've had enough issues just matching boxes on ONE wall and now you think I should make another. LOL. Plus those are even harder to find cause those are mid 70's end of the gray/red series boxes before they changed to red/ black (charcoal) color scheme. They would change the drawer layout a year or so before the color change so those are only a 2 year in that color drawer layout.

The new fresh paint looks great but now I'm sorta missing the "Patina".

Anyway it looks great but you know this just causes bigger problems now. When you put those old CM boxes in front of that nice new wall they will stick out like crazy. So now you have to restore the tool boxes too.
Your evolution process just grew!

Thanks. It's a vicious cycle. Yep I'm noticing that the paint on the boxes didn't look as bad before the new paint. Good thing that hammertone is a great paint and never had much issue with it. It's all the red which seems to give me issues. I'm thinking of using a different paint like something like farm equipment paint or engine epoxy paint. Since the HF and craftsman boxes are close but not next to each other I'm thinking you won't see difference? I didn't use the regular Craftsman red but a red that matched the HF red so all my reds seemed to match. Rustoleum takes to long to cure and krylon has its issues. When summer comes and weather is hot I'll start painting.

Awesome!!! Excellence for an excellent garage.

Thanks, now since I busted *** to paint this place cause of you I think it's only right that you find and buy me my missing 5 drawer tall cabinet I need. Here's what I need.

What does the group think? My birthday is in May so thinking is would make a garage gift from my GJ Florida Chapter brother? I'll have the spot all prepped for it.

It looks good Gerard, good purchases too.

Thanks, I love the white cause it makes this place really bright but it's downside is it gets dirty quick especially when you do metal grinding and cutting. Just general working with dirty hands it gets dirty. I really like the new box and vise. The portable box will be good if my plan works out.

I've been changing some things up as of late finally deciding to make one wall the " Wall of Craftsman". A lot of planning has been going into this wall but also planning for the future. Here's wall as it sits in layout 3. I figure since I got the new table I had to go with this layout. This layout also isn't going to any reconstruction or re organization once I find the other box I'm on the hunt for. I know Shortykorte is buying me the tall 5 drawer tall one for my birthday.
59d7fe492f783e50a7f0cd9323a84aa3.jpg

I love the look on the 9 drawer bottom next to the 5 drawer especially cause of the flat side. I just love the look so much. If you think about it alittle it looks like a reverse taco box.
fc7e57ddc75112348667bde7b534fc7c.jpg
690e987fd93ec7c7de6e949628612864.jpg
I also cut the standards of fit the 9 drawer
ec7b2e9aee2b016e6a7c69c88e7ac10c.jpg

10 drawer chest is hung on the wall.
8a3134d0afd9b9090ab9948f9146552c.jpg
d46e4f07c45ddf8adfdeccbe5c5bcf7d.jpg

I'm probably going to remake custom brackets to hang the chest again. It's not that these don't work. It's I think I can make them better then before and better then what I currently using. 3 times a charm.

On the flip side of the bench i did this.
cb803a6aa895052ce78f742f64e0ad57.jpg
Chest hung on wall and when Shortykorte buys me my 5 drawer tall bottom it will go under the 6 drawer chest. Well until Shortykorte gets me that I decided to park my welding cart and small tool caddy here just to get them out of the way. Now I when those boxes show up I can easily have a home all ready form them. No construction, no rethinking, no new layout needed it's put in place and start using.

Well still got peg board, hardboard bench cover, under shelf lighting, new outlets and power strip to do. All big work is done for the most part.
