Re: The 5 Stitches Garage 20 x 22 in FL

Question for you Gerard on another subject. If I remember right you have an Explorer Sport Trac and maybe have owned prior models. What is your recommendation about this vehicle? Good and bad. Any issues to watch out for? My daughter is looking at this type of vehicle to buy used or, something similar from Nissan, Toyota.
Curious about a user perspective on the Ford.

Hey Gerard, that's a pretty neat trick (the tool mounts).

Thanks, I'm calling it my UMS (universal mounting system). I did one grinder and one vise so far. Those where the test ones and now that I figured out size of the plate I cause make mounts for ALOT of stuff.

I have to agree with Mark on this, consider it stolen.

I don't think that idea had a snowballs chance in hell of not being stolen. I just so happen to have the perfect scraps for it too.
JB

Thanks guys, I love creating new ideas. The fact that people like it so much to use it themselves makes me happy. Now if I can only patent one of these ideas and make millions. LOL

You know, that bench top could use some p.......:dunno:

Have you thought about routing in a 1/4 plate with threaded holes? That would be sweet, no fooling with nuts. What size bolts are you using?

IIRC they're 3/8? I bought some hardware thinking that all the tools will have same hardware from vises to grinders to all rest of the stuff I plan to mount on the plates. I've seen where people have routed boards into the top and thought about having nut in every plate but didn't want to over complicate the system.
709ec305f81499f791f204fa8f589f87.jpg
Right now it's easy. Mount tool to board drill corresponding holes in plate, bolt down. I find this much easier than C clamps or quick grips to hold things to bench.

YES the bench needs paint but it's really doesn't. See I had a 2ft X 8ft piece of brand new hardboard ready to go on this bench once I finished the bench. That piece got cut down to 2ft x5ft and used for a wife's school project at last minute. So need to pick up another piece but yes some pieces need some paint. LOL

I might come out a little biased because I've owned two Rangers a expedition and now the sport track. The model I have is a 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT. The only bad thing I can say about the Sport Trac is I wish the fuel mileage was a little better. I'm getting about 16 17 running around town but gets better on highway. I'm a huge fan of this truck whether it be the 1st or the 2nd generation. If you want PM me your cell number and I can call you to discuss it more later tonight. Way too much to type out about good things and reasons behind why I say those things.

I meant countersink the tapped plate in the bench. I forgot that you had holes the entire length. I'll shut up and hobble back to my cubicle now.

I've seen that idea but also you haven't seen me use a router either. It's scary. Bolts more my speed. LOL

I'll post up my original idea tonight and once you see that you'll understand the holes in the bench.

Re: My "Shop"

Well stayed up alittle late tonight to finish mounting some more grinders. I managed to get 2 more grinders and my belt/ disc sander mounted.
2d01ee2312fa8c74cd0bda8f5e969acf.jpg

This is somewhat one of the uses I thought of with new mobile work table.

516bf9b42771e1bac4039ab261a69811.jpg

I'm thinking one grinder for grinding, wire wheels, a misc one (which will probably be the B&D ) and the other Dayton not shown here for buffing. I have to drill holes to mount stuff on this table but it will have same pattern as bench. I will be able to mount stuff on bench or mobile bench as needed. Then store them away.
f65b2735bba6116a561ba55ce1048ecf.jpg
I put a big back in the belt/disc sander cause I needed to rest it on its back to store in away cause it's too tall to fit other way.

I usually keep big ideas to myself and way this idea came about its only the issue of moving vises around but when using grinders, chip saws or other stuff was how to clamp it down to use. I had this idea for a multi purpose table that I can mount anything anywhere to. I got the idea looking at this.
cc526fd6cfe75af69aaef487fd1e1f2b.jpg
It's just a piece of expanded metal. I've seen it as welding tables and many other uses but never seen it used to mount stuff. When think about it it would work great. Unlimitless holes already there to mount anything with few bolts. Unfortunately, my idea never got built as you can see but the tool mounts idea stayed and found another way to do it. This is how I came up with holes in the bench and soon to be the mobile table. I just can't wait to have all theses mounts made. 5 down many more to go.

Gerard

That bench should work great in your next home, the condo. I could also use one in my Nursing Home room. I could at least sit my coffee on the bench, but I would need one of those foam can covers for the Killian's.
My suggestion is we just stay where we are now. Somehow I don't think we would make the best of fellows in either location!!

Best Regards
Herb

Mr Herb, we call them stubby holders. You don't need to be in a nursing home to have one :lol_hitti:

I've been keeping an eye out for some Killian's here but am yet to find any.

Ok back to catching up on Gerard's thread which went missing from my subscription list for the second time now!

Cheers GB.

My apologies Herb as I didn't see this post. Yep, I'm not really to downsize just yet but always thinking of the what if. I do often think of my mortality and take others situations that happen and learn from them. Guys have huge shops and then suddenly sometime happens or if get a divorce and need to move this place. I don't know why I think about such things but I do. I already stopped buying many things unless they are planned into the Craftsman wall or match something I have currently. I already planned my next place whether it has a 1 or 2 car garage (that's if I'm single). I've seen many things and always hear that you must learn or take away something from each experience and I have learned many things that don't always translate into words to well.

Thanks for stopping by. I just looked at one of my Killians bottles and read manufactured under license from Brasseries Pelforth S.A. It's also reads product of USA.

I always thought it was imported through Coors which I'm wrong or it was at one point in time. I was at a Irish bar down in Key West Fl at place called Irish Kevin's. I asked for a Killians and they said they didn't carry it but they imported a beer IIRC called Kalarney's from Ireland which was like Killians but better. I never found it in any store around me. Killians is getting harder to find since many bars and restaurants or replacing it with Amberbock.

Ok once losing my thread is one thing but twice now. Hmmmmm starting to think you don't like me no more. [emoji20] LOL. [emoji482]

Ok caught up now. Loving the CM layouts. Option 3 was my pick too.

GB :beer2:

Thanks man, right now it's in option 697! LOL. Actually it's modified option 3 with 9 drawer near the door and the corner all full of junk ready to finish up projects with the material.
93fb38d79bb612c5cb05e34ed18de180.jpg

I went with this layout solely based on finding one bottom roller and maybe a matching chest to one of 2 I have. If I do then this will require the minimum amount of moving. Right now the corner is holding the welder, material, and workmate table. I'm trying to avoid the temptation to build anything which would fill this space knowing that once I find the bottom roller it's going in that spot. I even thought of taking the 3 drawer lateral file which is sitting on other side of garage and finding a way to redo the craftsman wall to fit it. I'm sticking to the plan for once. LOL

Ok waiting for everyone to getting off the floor from laughing their asses off. LOL.

@All and Gerard

I think it stacks up like this GB: You CAN drink any beer you like, or have available, but the GJ code (at least with me and Gerard) is Killian's Irish Red.
However it is no problem if you can't get it--right?

You CAN use any vise you want or like or have available, but the one you need to say you like the best is a Wilton Bullet. However, it is no problem if you NEVER find one. (Like I can't).

You CAN use any grinder you want or like or have available, but the one you need to say you like the best is a Craftsman Block Grinder. However it is no problem if you NEVER find one. (Like I can't).

The nursing home will not care if I ever had a Wilton or Cman Block Grinder.
The wife or daughter will smuggle in an occasional Killian's.
So, I'm good on my planning. LOL:evil:

Best Regards
Herb

Herb. I like your reasoning. I do have a (couple) of Wiltons and a block grinder. But I choose a different beer.

Carry on gentlemen.

Thanks 1/2 Cup. I enjoy coming up with ideas for problems. Well, I can say as far as Craftsman wall is concerned the plan is set. Just waiting to find the pieces.

Sorry mate, I was looking for your thread this morning to say hey as I figured you had dropped of the radar only to find you have been as busy as bat sh.t redoing the layout. So I was thinking about you - does that make up for it ?

Now in that spot for the future yet to be found CM cabinet you could get a big cardboard or ply cutout and paint a picture on it of the cabinet and stick it in that spot ready to go ? Like a reserved parking spot.

Sorry being a bit cheeky.

Cheers Grumblebum.

Great idea Grumblebum. I'm sure we will see pictures of the faux cabinet in place by Sunday. Definitely would hide the mess in the corner and it will give Gerard something to paint. :bounce: sorry, couldn't resist.

Come on, buy it, its just one more box, and it's a perfect match, and you can blame it on me!

Yes it's a great day. Thank you you so much for finding those and picking them up for me. I cannot wait to get those home. I'll give you the combo for the garage you can go ahead and sneak them in the empty spots before the wife gets home. LOL[emoji482] The wife should be cooled down by the time I see you in a few weeks.

Actually, I needed both those pieces to complete the wall. Unfortunately those side shelves only fit certain years like the heritage series and and the beginning of the red/ gray era up to about 65.
