Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

I pay $4.99 a month and PB is working normally (slow and frustrating) for me as of now.

Bronson (and others using photobucket at a rate less than the $399.00 ransom price),

It may look okay right now, but when your $4.99 runs out, you will be just as screwed as the rest of us.

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

Well, I got fucked royally too. I am throwing in the towel. I post alot on my other forum where I used to have a TR6. Those pics are gone too. Feel like I wasted my time. Been with PB for 11 years as a free member. Kept my content simple and not overloaded. Said I had used 48% of my space. They should have not cut everyone off like they did and instead make it active after their terms change leaving the old stuff existing.

Bottom line, I am sorry for some of you guys like myself who really posted alot of pics sharing your projects, lives and loves.

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

Yup, my build thread over the course of a year has had all the pics deleted. Only those pics on PB that were shared were deleted. I wonder if I go back to my build thread and delete the photos if they will re-appear in PB? Anyone have any ideas/

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

I went to PB and was already logged and grabbed an IMG link.

It appears to be working but I already have a paid Pro account with 2500 pictures on PB. Going to **** if I were to have to download all them as we just got a new computer and put alot of them on disc before I swapped for the new PC.

Eric...all I see is a laughing kitten.

I went and deleted my PB account. Go to your little PB account pic and choose settings. In there along the top is a box labeled Account. You can go delete from there. I made a note about their extortion as they asked for a reason.

However, I have them ALL backed up, so I won't lose anything, except all the pics on My build thread.:(

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

I took them up on their "free image hosting" offer years ago. I posted a lot on here and on other forums with my pictures hosted by them. My welding table thread is a good example.

Then, all of a sudden, ****. All my pictures are gone. They want $399.00 a year for me to be able to use them or have access to them ever again.

I can't even take them back and leave. And my originals are long gone.

I'm so pissed off.

I have been fed up with their site changes and slow loading, picture sorting, ect... for a while now.

Want me to walk down to their corporate offices (I am within walking distance right now) and punch them in the nose for both of us? :bounce:

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

I'm hoping that I covered myself and saved the threads I posted in so at least I'd know which pic went where should I ever take the time to rebuild a thread. Everything seems to have worked but I'm not savvy enough to know for sure, at this point.

This is going to have a far-reaching ripple effect.

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

I have been looking back through some of my threads and some still have the pics, but some have the PB Account Update logo?
My XLCR CafeRacer thread has all of it's pics, with 27,000 views.

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

I cannot recover my pics in PB for nothing. Every time I try to recover it is still linked back to PB. So I am screwed. Don't have much on there but damn what I do have is mine. **** em. Not doing anything right now. Waiting to see maybe if it ends up being a hack and gets corrected. Otherwise not a huge issue for me. Here is my theory but only time will tell if I am correct. They will wait and see how much cash they can get out of this and then will shut down the site at a drop of a hat. Seen it before. If this isn't a hack situation it was certainly a **** maneuver.

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

You might think I'm excessive, but I'm so paranoid about losing my pictures, that besides having them on postimage.org I have them backed up on a remote hard drive, 2 flashdrives, all of my computers at home, and my computer at work.

I agree. I don't think it would do any good to correspond with them because they don't email back!

Test to see if pb is working. It finally let me click on IMG and copy and paste. Maybe they fixed it???

I was able to post the picture above, but have not checked to see if my other threads have pictures restored. Probably not, but I don't understand why I can post pics now and could not yesterday or til now.

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

Mind you, Photobucket has been crippled for a while now, it was barely usable without ad block on anything but a super computer.

"Yes I'd like 32gb of RAM and quad video cards please, got some pictures to upload."

I don't see your picture on my end, just the "100 percent usage" thing.

Possible they were hacked and this is ransomware? What's the chance they do a 180 policy change after seeing all the outrage. I'm sure they are losing more customers than this is worth. I can't imagine too many people paying $400. If it was $10 people would be pissed but might still pay but $400 is insane.

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

When I first saw the message, it was flagged in Gmail as Spam. It wasn't from Photobucket.com so I just figured it was spam and deleted it. Unfortunately I can't recover deleted Spam messages from Gmail to check the exact address.

No matter, turns out it was legit. I just went over to a forum where I've posted a lot of DIY's and sure enough all of the photos have been replaced by that message.

I can also confirm that the images you now download are much lower resolution that what was originally posted on the forums, and available for downloading in the past from Photobucket.

Fortunately I have all of the original images in the original high resolution format, so even though it will be a PITA to replace the links with new ones, it can be done.

Really scummy what they did. I expect a lot of people are really going to be pissed. Not to mention the forums where all these photos were posted.

They offer three "plans". The first is the "Plus 50" and it costs $60 a year, with no 3rd party hosting, the second is the "Plus 100" that costs $100 a year, with no 3rd party hosting, and the only way you can get 3rd party hosting is to fork over for the "Plus 500" plan that costs $400 a year. Just a rip off.

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

I was able to download my albums after many failures and repeats. I have the originals so not a big deal but hoping to be able to upload the whole album some place else in the future. re-linking threads.... well that another story. ****.

So what the best option for 3rd party pic hosting?

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

Its alot of work Justin. I am giving up. Not going through all my threads to redo pics. I took off my signature lines linking my threads. My posts are worthless without pics as they say.

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

I cleared my album and deleted my account.

Stupid move on their part, and there's no way I'm leaving my stuff there only to have a pay-wall prevent me from getting to my images. They're gone, and my EXTREMELY old account is gone.

Photobucket always sucked, anyway. They just cornered the market when it was still fresh.

I am not very computer literate, so when you guys figure out a good host that is compatible with this site, please post it. Or, is it possible to post pictures to a thread without using a host, like directly from the computer if the pictures are on the computer?

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

I got ripped off by Photo Buckets scam more than 5 years ago. Had the "Free" pic deal for less than a yera and then suddenly they wouldn't let me add any new photos. Shortly after that they wouldn't let me use or view any of the photos I had stored with them . I lost all the pics I had of my 38' Chris Craft Commander boat. The boat had been sold and I had about 3 pics in hard copy. All the rest of my photos of that boat were gone.

May the people that own and run Photo Bucket rot in hell. I tell as many about this as I can. If I had the opportunity I'd punch each of them in the nose, hard. They are scum. They do not deserve our business or respect. I spit on there name.

This is the site I use, it works everywhere; http://onfinite.com/
But like I said earlier, they periodically have issues where the site is down or photos don't show, however they usually fix it pretty quickly once they are notified.
Or, is it possible to post pictures to a thread without using a host, like directly from the computer if the pictures are on the computer?

In your reply screen, look at the icons along the top. Click the paperclip icon, just to the right of the smiley icon.

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

My photobucket is fine after 12+ years.

Mine seems ok also?

I had issues with photo bucket a while back... as discussed in this thread: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=356839&highlight=photo&page=2

I was able to get some help.. as follows:

So a fella named "Moss" at Photobucket seems to have fixed my account. It loads quickly, no more advertisements and all my files are there.

If you're having problems email [email protected] attention Josh & Moss. Might be worth a try.

At this point I have such a huge library with them (my barn build thread and numerous vehicle build threads) I hate to jump ship.... but then again twice bitten, thrice shy.

All the photo links on my build thread, as well as other Photobucket links still seem intact.

I'm a paid subscriber.. it's like $25 bucks a year... or was. So you guys that are having issues, were you using their free option, or the paid?

Signed,

Nervous in Colorado

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

Mine's still functioning, and I'm still going through picture by picture to download them. I got a couple of albums downloaded as a ZIP, but checked them after a poster above said they come out of the ZIP corrupted, and they were. So one at a time it is.

...so when you guys figure out a good host that is compatible with this site, please post it.
I'd like to know a good one as well, then maybe I can switch the links of some photos here, and delete my PB account.

What a fun way to start the weekend!:lol_hitti

Re: Photobucket Just Screwed Me Real Hard

When it comes to computers, I must admit, I ain't the fastest chip in the bunch.
And I don't want to come off sounding like a know-it-all.

BUT, I have all my digital pictures saved on at least 2 separate devices so I (hopefully) can always access them.
Storage is pretty cheap. Discs, thumbdrives, SD cards, external hard drives, etc......

I would never trust keeping irreplaceable pics on the cloud. I want to "touch" them.
Maybe I'm old school like putting papers in a filing cabinet.
