Here's a place to post good Amazon deals you've seen recently.

EDITED: We've decided there's a better way to do this...just post a new thread when you see a good Amazon deal. See the discussion in this thread.

We're going to let this thread die.

Thanks!

The second or third posting in these kinds of threads is almost always negative. Same thing happened in my Harbor Freight thread, Merkava jumped right on it with a big nasty.

But I talked some trash about one of FNFS's vendors awhile back, so I deserve this. I'll take it.

the biggest problem is that the deals don't last that long sometimes

Amazon does have some fine print that you need to be aware of, but I have found them to be VERY easy to deal with.

I just looked at those clamps, they come up $23.99, and Amazon has free shipping for orders over $25.00, so you could buy an additional item for $1.01 or more to get free shipping. Just FYI... ;)

Also, for Amazon newbies, even if they offer free shipping, during checkout the shipping options will default to "standard" shipping which will cost you some $$, you have to click on the FREE shipping icon to get it.

I know! I hate that. That's why I wish we had a particular thread to monitor...when it pops to the top, something good might be active.

Eh, if it doesn't work this thread will sink to the bottom. It's worth a shot.

Re-posted from earlier today related thread since I want to share this Amazon deal I found....

I recently found out about http://www.warehousedeals.com/ by Amazon.

I ordered these GROSS STABIL Supergrip GRZ gripping pliers which are pretty much German made Bessey clamps for $23...these easily go for more than $50 minimum and are super strong clamps:
http://www.warehousedeals.com/GROSS-STABIL-GRZ-20-SuperGrip-200/M/B000JLSMXW.htm

The selections seem to be limited but it looks like this is a beta concept by Amazon. I thought the clamps were a great deal though.

The shipping brought the total to $30 so yeah, gotta watch out for the shipping details. But I'm still happy with that price.

Many deals don't last, so I keep a bunch of smaller ships free at $25 items on a mental list ready to add as needed to any order. Lisle tools are great for this, but Amazon is FULL of useful items from $5 to $15. I don't think I have ever paid for amazon shipping. ;)

Harry Epstein has Gross Stabil clamps on clearance but I don't know if the prices are really competitive or not. Haven't priced them out.

I'm subscribed.

I suggest that we come up with some kind of nomenclature to quickly convey how great of a deal, and how long it's expected to last. Maybe "good" "great" and "hot" and "stable" "uncertain" and "buy now." Or similar...

There would also need to be a way to identify deals. One way is for the original poster - Bolster - to update the 1st post periodically. When one posts a deal, they should give it a designated title icon such as the one shown above. That way, folks scanning through the list of posts can quickly find the deals if Bolster hasn't had a chance to update the 1st post. I had planned on doing something like this for my reviews and deal finds to keep them fresh and to attract additional feedback, but it applies to a thread like this as well.

Another thing is that perhaps unstable/about to expire deals should be described in a txt file or similar and uploaded as an attachment to prevent lurkers from seeing them before more members do. Why should a lurker get to take advantage of a great deal that might sell-out before garage journal members are able to get in on it.

check out http://slickfillers.net/ if you haven't already seen it. It searches for those filler items for you.

It's a good idea. If you think that's how to proceed, Stuey, then let's let this thread die and restart it under your system. Unfortunately I have to travel a lot, so I am not able to monitor the list as needed.

Too bad you can't edit the title of a post. That would be handy.

So, should we stop posting here and restart? Fine with me, I like Stuey's system better.

Long messy thread, waiting for somebody to update the first post, all takes too long for most Amazon deals. We aren't a deals per se site, but there are maybe half a dozen big ones where deals show up regardless of where first posted usually within minutes.

If you see a deal, start a new thread and post the deal, nice and simple. ;)

There has got to be a better system, though. Recently, I found a thread about a loctite deal, but it happened to be two days too late. That's the kind of experience that we're all looking to avoid.

I have implemented two methods to help relay deals that I have found (and those that are directly submitted to me), but I hesitate to mention them since they are ToolGuyd related, and cannot be used as a blanket solution.

The idea of an Amazon deal index is a good one, but the logistics behind it may be too complex for any one person to handle.

The reason I like the post up to a thread idea better than a new thread is that when some adds a post, there is a email generated. When someone starts a new thread, I get the email at the end of the day and usually the deal is gone.

So I for one vote to keep this thread alive....

Let's start a new thread that is dedicated ONLY to posting of amazon deals; call it: AMAZON DEALS POST-ONLY THREAD or something similar.

The first message can explain the rules and guidelines: post only deals, don't bother posting when they die, if you check the deal and it's gone: you snooze, you lose, etc...

Everyone that wants to receive notices of the deals can subscribe to the thread with Instant notification so they get notified asap however they want.

The only posting to the thread is Deals or Alerts. If you want to talk about one of the deals, post here or in a different thread.

Best of both worlds....

These are the methods that I have implemented to help disseminate the deals that I find:

For Amazon deals, I update the ToolGuyd "Amazon astore" on a regular basis, via the "DealGuyd alerts" category. The way the astore works, you add a product to your cart, and when you click "proceed to checkout," the product is added to your amazon.com shopping cart. I figured that this might be a good way to revolve the 9 or 18 best Amazon deal finds.

For non-Amazon deal finds that I post about on ToolGuyd, there is an email alert subscription service. After I post about a deal, an email is automatically sent out the next morning at about 9-11am EST.

For those that don't want to bother with emails, there is a link to the DealGuyd category for reference purposes.

beelsr,

In an ideal world, your suggestion is a good one. However, this is not a perfect world, and you cannot trust a community's discipline to adhere to the rules you propose. Almost every time I see post restrictions such as "alerts" or "new deals" only implemented in a forum thread, stray posts and comments eventually result to a moderator closing the thread, or turning it into an updated-by-mods-only thread.

Second of all, a "deal" to one person may not be a deal at all. Over on slickdeals, there are countless threads which mention crappy or regularly priced tools. It might only take a few such updates before people unsubscribe.

Not a perfect world? Thread drift? Whaaaazat? :headscrat

I've been online since before Algore invented this thing. Trust me, I know all about it.

Doesn't VB have some sort of semi-moderation wheren you can post based on rep level or userlevel independant of mod rights? ISTR something like that... Only let the "trusted" ones post.

You read slickdeals? Geez, not enough hours in the day for that....
