Hey Squash, you get that at the antique store in Buzzards Bay? Saw one there a couple weeks ago when I got the little Athol clamp on vise I posted on here, almost bought it, but talked myself out of it.

Hey Ragtop. I did not. Grabbed it with a few other things I didn't want to get the thing I did.
Once I get things a little more set up in my shed I'll mess with it a little and report back.

Yup, just looked a little closer at yours, think it is different. The one at the antique store had tap collets as I remember. Had nearly the same worn box. I'll have to look at it again when I'm next down around there, if it's still there.

I came across one of these things in a g-sale lot. I'm one step away from tossing it in metal recycling because I can foresee any modern day application. Am I wrong? It seems like it's only use is making Grandpa's old primitive corded electric drill reversible and slower speed.

Those that have the Yankee style screwdriver bits are hard to use as a tapping head, at least in my short attempts. I have not tried to play with mine lately, but having the Lee Valley Yankee to hex adapters give me new hope, as I have a few hex shanked drill chucks that may hold a tap for light duty.

I don't see how this thing can effectively tap since there's no provision for down feed. You'd either have to manually feed the tap or let the tap pull the spindle down. Either option seems like a recipe for broken taps. If anyone wants this thing it's Free. Just pay the shipping.

I spotted this buried in the bottom of an old toolbox at the flea this morning and my woodymeter went off. I haven't played with it yet. All the holes in the cardboard holder inside were filled with screwdriver bits (three standard and one cross-recess) and that 1/4-inch drive bit (without the collar) was floating around inside, too.

I have one of those that my father had. Building a boat he drove hundreds of screws into oak.
