My #2 son came over this afternoon with a 1/4" drive Mac USA ratchet that he picked up at a yard sale for $1.00.

The ratcheting action didn't work right. He brought it over for me to look at, he told me that he thought it needed cleaning and lubrication.

We went to my shop, took it apart and there was more **** and crud in the mechanism than I thought possible.

A good cleaning, and some Permatex Ultra Slick Engine Assembly Lube, and it works like new.

Two good things happened: 1.) My son learned to take apart and clean a ratchet. and 2.) He got a nice ratchet at a really good price.

Great story. How old is #2? Hopefully, he will be on the lookout for more of the same type of deal.

This is such a cliche... but it really is the little things in life...

a yard sale ratchet... $1

20 mins Father Son time in the workshop... Priceless
