G'Day Plushy (how goes it?)
I'd have to agree with you there (I saw it up the street in Bendigo on the Friday night before the swap)
I'd also have to agree with your Missus :bounce: GET IN THAT SHED :lol_hitti

Only way to get it done Plushy as Rocket said just get into that shed.
I hope I gave you some motorvation. Would love to see that Blitz of yours going. In the mean time I am back in the shed fixing all the things I broke over the weekend and things that I found that need to be improved. I have a couple of oil leaks to fix but that may be simply because the motor sat for so long during the project build.

Currently having a problem with oil in the water. I have had the oil cooler apart and tested a couple of times now and replaced all the gaskets. Next thing to look at will be the gaskets on the head. Not what I wanted to be doing now I have the F4 going. problem may have come about due to the motor sitting for so long or perhaps some one has not done the right thing when working on the motor ( not me :wtf: ). Also waiting on either a modem or computer program so the LPG ( Propane ) can be set up as it is not sniffing the LPG at present and will make a big difference when done.

I also went to enter the F4 in the Victorian Hot Rod Show but was declined due to the weight of the vehicle on the floor as the Royal Exhibition building is heritage listed.:(

Trust you.:lol_hitti

Tee Hee!!

Glad to hear I have also connected you with some one to help you with your LPG. Just think dual fuel  As it only has to be a small petrol tank.

He had some info, but none for dedicated GAS.
No duel fuel for me. (my build approval is for Gas only!)
I have found a few other contacts, though only rearly days.
I've done a fair bit of homework on injected Gas, but liquid, so that rules out a lot of people. :(
I still haven't ruled out going V8 Dieeeesel :headscrat but that depends on what I find in the next few months.

Will start pulling the Cummins apart Monday.

oh! NO!!:shocking::shocking:

Well make up you mind will you as that paper work will not change over night from LPG to Diesel. I can see where Jaeson is coming from with his idea for dual fuel. An option would be bigger or dual LPG tanks.
A V8 Diesel :headscrat You'll get more power from an inline turbo.
The old Cummins Advertising Quote -

"V8's are Great, But Six inlines Just Fine" - CUMMINS Advertising.

I think I have even converted Diesel Dave in WA to a true Diesel and none of this toy V8 stuff.

I am sure I will find something simple and if not then the Cummins is an easy motor to work on.

NO!!
you don't seem to understand :wtf:
Rego would be totally different if I went for 'dual fuel'

I would doubt that very much.
I've driven both turbo in lines & V8's in trucks & I can tell you, I'd rather an 8 anytime & thats not just for the true sound you get
(ever lit up the rears at an intersection on a bogie drive because you've just dropped the trailer off :wtf::wtf: opps.......too much grunt

At least you've got the room under the hood because of the lack of Quibic Inches :lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

I do understand. So like I said just put bigger LPG tanks in it. Jaeson may not understand but I do.

Then you need to read something like Diesel Power Magazine to see how many Modifiy the Cummins :) THINK B.O.M.B. - Better Off Modified Baby.
Oh and I just love blowing those V8's away at the lights :bounce: and I am doing that at present without the LPG injection.

The Cummins just fits in place of the old sidevalve motor. Will most likely look at some changes whilst I am pulling the motor apart. Remote oil filters will be one idea that will allow for more room and help witl oil cooling. I even have some trick cleanable oil filters that will be used this time.

Will be visiting Cummins tomorrow about another motor or building this one with a new block, they will also crack test the head. :)

Many of my issues now appear they can be refered back to one firm :( that has done work for me and that is on the LPG, Engine head and the Air Con system missing O rings. I had to get the Air Con gassed twice due to this mistake.

This time the Engine may get a lot more attention and plenty of dress up. :)

This is how I would like the Cummins to look when finished this time. :)
0911dp_01+5_9L_cummins_diesel_engine+engine_bay.jpg

May also end up going from a 6BT to a 6BTA. An increase from 150 to 180 Horse power.

OK I did not plan to post photos but here is the result after removing the head.
l_d14fb8c95ea244988e0c454b455f9fa1.jpg

Yes it has been sleeved and it looks like one of those sleeves was not installed correctly.
Still no idea why we had oil in the water and now looks like I will be setting up a new motor soon. I just hope the 6BTA will fit with out to many modifications.

Ordered a NEW Cummins 6BT today and it will be ready for collection soon :).

The old motor is history :( and not much use for anything a few problems have been found that should have been found when it was rebuilt. May just put it back together and sit it on the floor in the workshop as decoration.

The funny thing is now the new motor is a Chinese built Cummins
Makes me ask what would a Harley Davidson owner say if you told him his bike was built in China :lol_hitti Anyway the new motor will be ready for me next week as it has to be converted from 24 volt and Industrial Specs to 12 volt and Automotive Specs. :) New motor has a few differences and the fact it is wastegated should be better. I have stuck with the 6BT as the 6BTA with the intercooler would not fit.

OK, I have my brand new Dong Feng (East Wind) Cummins.

As you can see my Pro stock style sump is fitted as is my Stainless Steel air tube. Cummins changed the fuel injection for me to Auto Specifications instead of Stationery Engine Specifications. The new Engine is a brand new 2008 built motor and never been used. Still have to swap over my gearbox adaption and change a few other things as this one is slightly different with a waste gate etc. I hope to be back on the road by the end of January 2010. :bounce::)

Fitted up now. Had to modify part of the block for the starter and modify the waste gate so as not to hit the brake master cyinder. Many other small changes have yet to take place after a full days work to put the new motor in. Some of the heater hoses will be relocated due to changes with this Engine. Air Con may be a small problem due to the new injection system. Luckily some of the old brackets etc. from the old motor can be bolted on and swapped over. Some of the wiring will also need to be updated so the new injection system will work.

After working on getting the Engine in yesterday I know what will be the next project and that may be extend the workshop or add a concrete apron outside the door as that Engine was not easy to move. Will also have to find out how to clean the concrete floor with all the oils stains.

the oven cleaner also works on grease and old parts as well just try and use one that isn`t too caustic as the fumes can be pretty bad . I have also used oven cleaner to degrease a couple of flatheads and a couple of rover v8`s .

How does the new engine go with vicroads and the engineers seeing you have a increase in power ?

Do you know by any chance what a new 4bt is worth from cummins ? still thinking of using one in either the commer or the blitz rod :headscrat

Give in to the Cummins diesel Rod you know you want too !

Hows your shop truck going Rod ?

G'Day mate! How ya go'n??

I'd rather a V8 Diesel, but they are just waaaaaaaaaaaay too exspencive for me :(:(

We are still waiting on the front brake stuff to be done by Rod Tech, they are very much behind in their work, but seeing though Rod is doing it himself, I think I'll wait......... so the waiting game begins (I tried to phone them again today :wtf:)
Once we know the final front track, we will attempt to spend a day a week on it (though we are extreeeeeemely busy atm  a full shop with another car arriving in a week :wtf::wtf: Ya don't know a good body man do you :headscrat)
We really "need" to have it done NOW!, so maybe once we get going, I'll just have to find the $$ to keep it happening & get it finished. (my wife is sick of being left with the Rod to drive when I "steal" HER 4 wheel drive :lol_hitti

I will update the thread when we get going on it again (my new apprentice is looking forward to "cutting his teeth" on it )

How are all your projects going??

OK, noted beware of caustic oven cleaners.

All I have to do is change the engine no with Vic Roads as basicaly it is the same motor (identical block) just built later.

:( 4BT's are no longer made:(. Next motor of choice would be a new electronic ISB and believe me I have looked at one and decided it would not be the way to go due to the computer wiring required making it expensive as you can only buy them NEW at present. Given that you could still find a secondhand 4BT and have it rebuilt, just keep in mind what it comes out of as the injection system would be different for Auto than a Tractor, Fork lift or Gen set.

Oh! NO!!

:( ****** That does not sound like much fun, make the most of that time to follow up all the stuff on the net for your projects.

Wait until I get the F4 going again and I can show him how we blow the doors off V8's. Delay at present for me is the throttle linkage as I will have to design a complete new system as the new injection system is reverse to the old engine and then fit up the cruise control etc. to work with it.

Oh! while I think of it Plushy,
You know that farm that you got the little truck from over here, well the freind who owned it (the truck actaully belonged to his father) has sold the farm & has bought next door in town (small world!) they are moving in next week.

Just a bit of usless info
(a bit like someone thinking they will convert me to a Cummins :lol_hitti)

Made up a new throttle cable today ( A drive to Ballarat and back to get it made :wtf: Should have called to see you Plushy but was in a bit of a hurry ). This one should be much better than the last one as it was more of a hydraulic cable. Not much left to do now once the new throttle linkage is set up and the wiring done I just have to put it all back together.

Rod if your not a Cummins fan you could go along with a Perkins. But please do not think Isuzu.

I've got a worse one than that :wtf:

Try the Inter motor........the infamous Noisy Noyce, as we used to call them.
I could tell you a few stories about them after doing time with 2 differen Inter dealers that I have worked for :(:(

An inline is fine...........but a V8 is GREAT :bounce::bounce:

I have been using the time pretty well i have a fairly long shopping list for the FJ ute and i have been looking for decent photos of a Karrier/Commer Bantam Cab floor as i am going to have to build one from scratch and i am buying lots of imperial UNF thread bolts ,nuts and flathead screws for the Blitz`s also hunting for a 4BT that wont break my limited budget .

Lucky you didn`t drop round simon i was in town most of the day getting treatment for my shoulder . Who made up the throttle cable ? any chance they do speedo cables ?

Rod if you really want to be different why not get a Diesel 2 stroke three cylinder Knocker motor out of a old commer :lol

Also gotta get myself the roller and dies and other bits to build a english wheel so i can do the body work on the FJ . I have a old cast press frame that will make a great frame for a english wheel .

If you want Plushy I have some contacts that may help you at Cummins Scoreby via the second hand division and yes you are correct. Frank is a great fellow for cables etc. made mine up whilst I waited. It was a rushed trip and I would prefered to have contacted you if I was calling in to see you.

A Commer knocker :headscrat:wtf::headscrat hmmmm I think that would be to Pom Rod like for me.

I heard from a friend in the USA that International have a few spare 7.3 litre crate motors for sale now that Ford have pulled out from using the International V8's.

Oh, by the way Rod the advertising line from Cummins is 'V8's are great but six inline just fine'. I will just have to Torgue :lol_hitti to you more about it

If you want to do something different then you could always use a Deutz Air Cooled Diesel. I have seen one on You Tube in a Willys.

What the heck is that:confused::confused::confused:

I reckon that might be better served as a reciprocating machine or something :bounce:

Its an old punch press it has two shafts top and bottom which spin and move the top and bottom die together to punch out holes 10mm in diameter through 4mm thick plate . I have taken out the flat plate at the bottom and it has a pretty large open throat . I figured it would make either a good English wheel frame or a Louver Press frame just got figure it out :headscrat:headscrat

Simon thanks for the offer of contacts i am still aways off on that project but i will hopefully have the budget sorted for the parts later this year

:) Let me know when you need the contacts, I would suggest the 4BT's in good order will soon become hard to find now they are not being made.
4BTA's will be even harder to find given they had a intercooler.
This is what the 4BT3.9 looks like
4b_cummins39.gif

and the replacement ISB3.9 looks like this.
