The LPG tank is sitting in the work shop and full of fuel so I have revived the topic on the C1300 4x4 International http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32307&showall=1 showing what I will do with the LPG tank.

I have some more fittings to fit and test with the Copper-Flex hose so should post that soon.

Back working on the XP Falcon today and I have now replaced the rubber hose from the Electric Water pump with the new Copper Flex heater hose.
View media item 47914Before I did this I did a small trip in the XP and proved the Electric Water pump is doing the job so now with the Copper Flex hose fitted I can again test the new sample before production goes ahead with Copper Flex.

Working on some new display boards for the truck HOTFR8 today.

Some time back I made some very elaborate signs for times when I am showing the truck. The two I made first up are OK for indoor shows and that does not happen very often due to the size of the truck.

I also made some smaller ones I printed from the computer and simply put them in certificate frames. I had no way to set these up or use them as I would like. I updated these today, printing some new ones and looking at them I got some inspiration.
View media item 48877After looking round at a few shows I came up with an idea for a frame and have made it from two pieces of angle and three pieces of box tube.
View media item 48878Instead of welding it together I decided to pop rivet it together.
It will look something like an artists easel when finished.
View media item 48879A half hours work and it is all in racing grey primer. Top coat tomorrow and then I will post photos of it all finished. Rattle can black will be an easy color.

The big display boards really make a statement HOTFR8. :thumbup:

That said I like the idea of the smaller ones on an easel is great value as well, I tend to read all these at the shows that I attend and the more info the better.

Yes they do make a statement. To big to move about. The smaller ones and the frame should be more practical. Base coat tonight and top coat tomorrow.

If they work well I may make some more for the other vehicles. Using the pop rivets and not welding them was a great idea.

I got the steel today to make another two more of the display frame stands. This time to take just the one A4 Certificate frame in each stand. So that is two more stands, one for the Falcon and one for the T Roadster. I went back to get the A4 certificate frames only to find I could not get the same ones again

. So I had to buy 4 A4 Certificate frames and modify the one I made earlier other wise they would not look the same.

I will put them together the same way with pop rivets and I am glad I did it that way and not weld them other wise the change with the A4 Certificate frames would have made for extra work with the stand I made earlier. Drilled them ready to go and have them in primer so will update later with photos.

With the new certificate frames set up it was easy to modify the first display frame stand I made as all I had to do was drill out the pop rivets and move the bottom piece of angle steel lower and pop rivet it back in place. A quick shot of paint and it looks good again.

With the two smaller versions I pre drilled the holes and then primed and painted them. Once dried and pop riveted together they got another quick coat of paint.

View media item 50053When you slip out the certificate frames you are left with the simple frame work like this.
So it is all small enough to pack up. A simple way to display the information at a car show. All three match now so if ever I have all three vehicles on display at the same time the display information boards all match.

In the magazines again. This Time Australian Custom Trucks Magazine Issue 6.
Th F4 is featured and even have some photos of the T Roadster and the XP Falcon. Further to that in the lift out the International is shown at the Castlemaine Truck show last year.

I had to move the Enclosed car trailer today so I could mow that small patch of ground it sits on.
View media item 42759Two fold purpose as I wanted to get ready to load the T Roadster into the trailer
View media item 44481and had to make sure all is in order. I hooked up the F4.
View media item 38592I have an event I want to take both vehicles to later this month.

After a very short drive some thing did not appear to be in order.
Home again and after mowing that patch of grass that did not even take a few minutes I switched to the International as that is the Tow Vehicle I have used the most to tow the trailer.

Still the same issue. Felt like I had no electric brakes, so I pulled the wiring apart and found the socket had broken and a wire broken as well. New plug and fixed the wiring and the new plug would not go back in the same place. All back together and still no electric brakes.

Oh well I know I have a job ahead of me this week.

It has a 6BT and I will have to work on that again now the LPG system has gone. Last time I checked I was using about 14 litres of Diesel per 100 Kilometers and that may have changed since I removed the LPG system.

I am guessing it will be as simple as a broken wire on one of those wheel connections. Trailer wiring has never been a hassle for me but this time :dunno:

I am stumped.

I guess I will start by taking a wheel of one at a time to see what I find.

Oh, the broken wire I did find was the power battery feed wire from the tow vehicle to the trailer battery so I am glad I have that fixed. I may have to swap sockets again on the trailer as the plastic one fitted better than the steel version I put in and I am not happy about that.
Plastic one had been on the trailer since it was built.

Had to swap the 7 pin plug again as the one I fitted yesterday was going to let in moisture and that is not good for trailer wiring so now I am back trying to work out what is wrong with the electric brakes.

Frustrating! Good luck with it. I was chasing wires last night on the MG I bought as i had no reverse lights. Turns out someone in the past didn't know what to do with the two extra wires in the loom in the engine bay, and taped them back into the harness. Took me a while to find them, but once found and plugged in it all worked fine! Worries me about the rest of the wiring though, I can already see a number of splices and repairs. Good luck with sorting it out, hopefully it's something simple come adrift.

You have to hate wiring some times. Looked at the plug on the trailer after I had it in and then went back to the test light again. All looked to be good. Checked and cleaned the earth wiring on all six brakes and still nothing. Back to the lead from the vehicle to the trailer. No power, no lights nothing. Had it apart and all looks good so back to the truck and that lead works. The lead from the tow vehicle to the trailer can be removed. Ran out of day light so tomorrow weather permitting I will hook a truck to the trailer and check it all again.

Trailer wiring ? Will have to be something simple when I find what is wrong.

I made up a plug today so I could test the trailer wiring with out having a vehicle connected.
View media item 50480Pretty simple and worked well. Allowed me to test the lead that connects to the trailer and the tow vehicle using power from the trailer battery and by using a short fused connection that clipped to the power wire then to the circuit I needed to test. Tail lights, brake lights and indicators all work and to do that means the power supply lead is also working. Next I have to again look at the electric brakes and that will mean connecting a tow vehicle.

The test plug I made could be easily upgraded with a flasher can and a switch to give lights and hazard warning with out a tow vehicle connected.

I've never minded tinkering with Auto Electrical things although these Electrical trailer brakes have me stumped. :dunno:

I once wired a brake fail circuit and that was a challenge but these brakes do have me looking for an expert.

Are the brakes on a break away system? If so have the batteries gone flat? Had that problem once.

Battery is kept on a battery tender so it is not flat. I used the battery yesterday to test all lights etc. I am lucky enough to be able to park the trailer close to a 240 power point and simply plug it in with a caravan type point in the front.
I also wired it with a 240 power point on the outside so that makes it easier to work on the trailer without running power leads all over the place.

DOH........

Worked out today the F4 had the controller out some time ago when all the LPG was removed and .C means it has to be reset.

Having done that I know what I have to do again but I still have to work out why the brakes are not working like they should with the International so I have some work ahead of me still. The International has a different controller.

Oh well, hopefully that puts you on the right track anyway! Fingers crossed. Can be frustrating when you (it looks like) have multiple issues, makes it that much harder to narrow down the problem.

It sure looks that way. Weather has not allowed me to get back to it for the last couple of days. I may have to work out if the controller in the International has a bad earth. Still whilst I am working on it I now I am cleaning up anything as I go as good maintenance with the trailer.

Going through the trailer as you go is really good practice and helps pick up any other issues.

Never hurts to keep things maintained well. I have done a few other jobs inside the trailer that are not related to the brakes. Finally got under the International dash and the wiring on the controller in that looks OK. Hopefully over the weekend I will hook up a tow vehicle again and see what happens.

The weekend was just perfect weather but sadly I had commitments for an event so no work on that trailer and nothing done to sort out what is going on.
National Motoring Heritage Day although a busy day was a great day as Hewie made sure the Sun was out.

My International can be seen in photos 9 & 14 and if you look hard enough you can see the F4 in photo 11 in the background.

I did find a couple of other issues to sort out as the round brake tail LED lights on both the F4 and my smaller trade trailer have had some LED's in them fail and they no longer look very good that way so they have to be replaced.

Now would you believe it it is wet again so I can not get near that enclosed car trailer to sort out the brakes. Hewie was great with the weather for the event on Sunday as you can see by the link to the photos.

That test plug I made in post 544 came in handy. I have now confirmed for sure both the F4 and the trade trailer both have to have the round red brake tail lights replaced as not all the LED are working and they are a sealed unit.

As for the LED's well my guess they are a copy as they have no brand name and I will open one up when I get some replacements but to open it will most likely break it being they are a sealed unit. I stopped dealing with the place I got them from as I kept finding faults with the goods they sold. :dunno:

Apparently this is very typical in this type of light so I am now looking for some new ones and of a better quality.

I procure parts for new truck fit-ups and have pretty much stopped buying any of the no-name imported lights – I try to “share the love” between Hella and Narva.

The available range of LED stuff is increasing all the time and their prices are competitive (depending where you buy from).

I wish I could tell that to the supplier I got them from. I stopped dealing with them for just that reason. I am sure I will find a brand name version to replace them with. I have just removed the second one from my trade trailer to find it has gone in a very different pattern.

I am very fussy about quality and if they are not good enough for me then I would never sell them.
