Just going off topic for a little here and the reason why I did not sort out the enclosed car trailer brake issue over the weekend as I was involved with National Motoring Heritage day here in Castlemaine.

View media item 50804This was my pick of the day and he went home with a bag of goodies.

We had two Presidents Choice Trophies.
View media item 50805President of the Castlemaine Historic Vehicle Club chose this International.

View media item 50808President of the Castlemaine Rod Club chose this Pontiac.

View media item 50809How often do you see a Lotus parked beside a P76 Leyland ?
Well both got a long distance goodie bag. Neither had met before and they both came from the west of the state. P76 was from Warracknabeal and the Lotus from Rainbow. Both had traveled along way for the day.

View media item 50806This Mini Mack was built by an Artist and we invited him to the event for the day.

View media item 50810There is my International in the background first in and last to leave. I busted the zipper on the canvas cover on the back but managed to fix that. Lucky I did not need anything out of the back.

View media item 50807My F4 (HOTFR-8) with the trade trailer. I took the trade trailer with Bollards and flags to coordinate the parking as they drove in as it was easier to carry them in the trailer than the back of the International. (see that zipper was a pest).

Now back on topic as I would have taken the enclosed car trailer with the 1923 T Roadster if I had the brakes working so now I am working on those lights and I have to get back to the brakes when the weather improves and maybe next year I will get the Truck to tow the Roadster to the event.

Once again Hewie looked after the weather for the National Motoring Heritage day but is not looking after it for me to sort out the enclosed car trailer brakes.

As I said the Jailbar was my pick.

Whilst I am still off topic I found a mention of my work on the Davies Craig Website today as to how I fitted the electric water pump on my XP Falcon sedan and how I resolved the heat soak issue. The photos are out of date so I sent them some new ones and you can read the post on that site here > http://daviescraig.com.au/blog/one-of-our-customers-was-happy-to-share although they need to update it a little more.

Thanks for the pictures of the show, looks like a good turnout and some neat cars. Good luck with the weather and getting the trailer and lights sorted.

Back in post #522 I posted a photo showing how I fitted a Davies Craig Electric water pump to the V8 in my Falcon sedan. This information has now been shared on the Davies Craig web site. Just shows some very simple fabrication can fix a problem easily. I would post a link to it but they mistakenly used the wrong photos so this is my photo again.

Perfect weather here today although a frost this morning. I hooked up the trailer and reset all the brakes and away I went. Had to configure the settings high even with the trailer empty but it worked.

 The sad thing now is I know I have a fault in the International to sort out before I can tow the trailer with it again. I am sure once I get to it that it will be something simple.

I still have to replace those brake tail lights as well in my other trailer and on the back of HOTFR-8 when I find some more.

Yeah need to get those tail lights fixed on the HOTFR-8 since that is all they will be seeing anyways.
Love those older trucks. Nice pics.

I fitted up the new stop tail lights to both the trade trailer and the F4 truck. They had to be a different shape and have a different lead with a plug but all went together and worked OK. The difference did mean they had to be harder to fit up but then what else would you expect when you have to change to something new. The lights sure look better now on the F4 and the trade trailer looks just as good.

geeez ... you coulda taken more than just one piccy of the much maligned P76 .. :(:(

:D

Would have been a good vehicle if it had been given 1/2 a chance ... One I had for a while was quite OK.

Your Inter looks good sitting amongst all the others .... Sort of in a class of its own ..

I did not have much time that day to take many photos being a member of both clubs and one of the main organizers of the day.

On a side not the car trailer runs all P76 wheels all 6 plus two spares and I ran into trouble one day as I had a Ford Falcon wheel with the same pattern that did not fit. So I had to find and I now have all Leyland P76 wheels on the enclosed car trailer.

As for the International truck you do not see many in as good as condition as mine so it does stand out. I still have to find out what is wrong with the electric brake controller in the Inter.

I had a good look in the dark and the new LED's stand out 100% better than the ones I replaced on the F4.

 Brake controller in the International failed and being a Kelsey-Hayes unit it looks like I can not replace it. Not as simple as I expected as the Kelsey-Hayes unit looks like it is no longer made.

Oh well at least I know the electric trailer brakes are not at fault and do work with the F4.

Edit note: I have been told I have to up the power with the brake controller on the F4 so I again have to reset it all so the trailer brakes harder.

Spotted one on E Bay for $30-00 but it is not worth the risk. Looking at a Redarc as a possible replacement as it is Aussie made. For the price of a new brake controller I am best to toss out the old one no one wastes time trying to fix something like that any more.

Thanks for sharing HOTFR8.

I sure looks different.

All we had to load it was a hand winch.:eek: Never expected it would do the job and it failed. I can add I should never have let that fellow do any work on it as the Air Con and LPG have been a headache in the past. Still all resolved now and all in the past. Still the photos are history and that trailer is massive.

very nice shot.... I remember seeing an XP in NSW a few years back that had a ZH fairlane nose and grille grafted on.... seemed to work even though it was way out of keeping in period. good to see the corporate colours across your "fleet" :)

A couple of outings recently still turning heads with that distinctive Cummins sound and the looks of the vehicle.

Eventually things give up. I have only had to jump start the truck once since I have built it but over the weekend I had to jump start it a couple of times. I do not own a battery load tester so today I paid a visit to the local garage and had them load test both batteries. Both had dropped to a 1/4 of what they should be so time to replace them. Now the thing is here the vehicle is kept on a battery tender when not in use and the batteries are as old as this topic. Yes they are a couple of months short of being ten years old so I think that is pretty good going.

Put in two new batteries today and I expect them to last just as long. Went for a good long drive out to a mates workshop and well that felt great to be out for a drive.

Next on the agenda was to work out why the overdrive would not engage. Have checked out the wiring controls and they work. Oil in the unit is not dirty so that was good sounds like it is working but will not stay engaged in over drive so looks like that means in the next few weeks it will have to come out for a closer inspection.

Just when I was looking forward to taking it to another Street Rod Nationals.

Sadly that closer inspection will mean we have to remove it from the truck. The electric motor is engaging but what it has to drive is not moving. We have checked every thing we can at this point in time. Vehicle can still be driven but without the overdrive it is a little limited to 80 KPH so not practical on the highway.

Nationals will just see me in the XP Falcon or the daily driver depending on how busy the Trade Stand is.
