Well the daily driver did all the work for the Nationals and in some cases it was easier using that as I had more room to cart things about.

Today we removed the overdrive unit and had it on the bench and in this situation all worked well. So now it will go back into the truck and we will again try to work out why it does not want to work in the truck.

HOTFR8, unreal.

Sounds a bit like your hot water service, hopefully not..

We suspect it could be the switch or the control module now. As the US Gear Overdrive units used to be made by the same people that made Doug Nash Gearboxes they are called bullet proof but we just had to pull the unit apart to inspect. Oil was clean and no parts in it so the next has to be electrics and that can only be the module or the switch.

On the bench the unit engaged and disengaged just as it should but when wired back to the truck wire loom and the controls it would not go into overdrive.

Unlike the hot water service supplier I can speak very highly of Wignells at Euroa where the US Gear overdrive came from many years ago as they have been very helpful and I am waiting to hear back from them about parts even though we all know US Gear stopped making and scrapped the line of overdrives some years ago.

After a few phone calls a control module and switch have been found. Hopefully this will solve the problem. Will see when they arrive.

I'm having a bit of trouble typing at the moment Simon, because I have my fingers crossed.

I hate having to throw parts at things to find where the fault is, but sometimes it's the only way.

Well if anything I have confirmed the overdrive is pretty tuff or as I have been told in the past bullet proof. Sadly US Gear no longer make these overdrives but having a good Auto Electrician to fall back on I am sure he will work it out.

I have my fingers crossed as well as I am still waiting for a follow up call after being told they had the parts.

:) Time for an update: :)

Got the switch back a few weeks ago. Auto Elec has had it since June last year and could not find a fault. I unplugged the replacement and plugged in the old one leaving it sitting on my knee and off I went. Worked perfectly :headscrat. Now the Auto Elec found nothing wrong so we have concluded it could have been dust or moisture. Either way I have a spare now if it does happen again. I have put the old one away and left the new one fitted. I hope never have this problem again.

Looking great..

Great looking truck!

Thank you & Thank you.

I am itching to get into another project as I had so much fun building HOTFR-8. Still looking at ideas to build a motor home to go traveling. The National Heavy Regulator at present can not decide if I have to carry a work diary (log book) so at present I am project less.

I do so much want to get both the F4 and my T Roadster to more events and shows. The motor home idea has been in the works for some time.

You have some nice vehicles mate.

I bleed blue through and through and so does my family.

Ive had a lot of nice Fords as a young bloke but never really had the means to take photos of them sadly.

Here is a pic of an XP I chopped the roof down when I was kid!

And the 1916 T Model that dad drives around the state on a regular basis in vintage rallies. I always threaten to Rod it one day :) We have enough parts to build another complete T model so that may be a future project.

So if you find a small Cummins (4BT?), what are you going to put in?

Plans originally had been for a A model or similar. 4BT's are like hens teeth in this country and now a very old engine. They did get used in Case Tractors and Gen Sets but not in Automotive specification.

I have very strong connections with Cummins and we often talk about new ideas. What you see in the USA sadly we do not always see in Australia and then some of the US engines are not supported here.

I have posted some ideas as to a new project over in the Sheddwellers topic and as yet nothing suitable has come along.

EDIT: Even looked at the Cummins R2.8 but sadly there is no support for that engine in Australia. Cummins South Pacific as still trying to decide if it will be made available here.

I'm new to the diesel scene and even newer to the Cummins stuff, so all I really know is the BT series. Just curious, what do we have here that you don't have there? Would any of them be easier to package than a 6BT and give me the torque I want? Looking to pull a 40' (12m) 5th wheel?

The B series was (is) made all over the place. Present RAM still has a B Series.
Mine is a Dong Feng (East Wind) built B Series. The T in B series stands for Turbo. You can get a 4B.

Lets see we can not get the 6.7 B series. The R2.8 and the 4BT not easy to find either. Just to name what I think is popular. The B Series based 2.8 as used in the Foton (From China) is also not supported here unless you deal with Foton.

As for your choice the 6BT would be the best if you have the right gearbox and driveline set up.
