With 16' ceilings, would the the 4' Maxlite fixture work?
Building is 30' x 40' 16 foot eve, I would mount directly to trusses.
Is the this to high for this type of light. Was thinking of ordering 12 double fixtures.

"Only for storage. For workshop you'll need 13,000+ lumen fixtures. 12 of these Lithonia UFO 13.000 lm fixtures (link) in a 3x4 pattern (4' from walls, 10'8" fixture to fixture spacing) yields ~85fc at 30" workplane."

So I would need twice as many in the Maxlite fixtures to get the amount of light as The Lithonia UFO 13.000 lm fixtures ???

Or more light for lower fixture cost / higher install cost = same qty and placement of ~14,000 to 16,000 lumen linear high bay. Here's one (link) which yields 94fc @ workplane.

Target is 93fc @ 30" workplane for mechanical work.

Thanks Just what I was looking for,
I might use a combination of the Lithonia UFO 13.000 lm fixtures, and Maxlite LSS2XT8USE4803 fixtures withe led bulbs. It is a new build and have to still figure out where I want what lighting.

50X60 shop with 11'-6" ceiling height....I would like to use 4' twin bulb fixtures. How many would I need....? It has roll-up doors. The building has gigantic metal halide lights now. If we end up buying the house this is one of the first upgrades done, I can't imagine how much electricity they would use.

Need to order lights for my soon to be finished pool building, 35x80 with 14 ceilings.

I plan on installing a curtain divider to help reduce HVAC costs that would split things up 35x20 and a 35x60 side with the 35x20 being the shop and the 35x60 being car and part storage.

This is one of those subjects that the more I research the more confused I get. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have not seen these fixtures talked about much, but I purchased the Primelights 6 bulb.

I am very impressed with these fixtures. I have put in 6 in my 30x60 shop, I think I am going to add 2 more over the garage doors in the future.

Looks good never heard of them, not any IES info. I like the description "HIGH BAY SHOP LIGHT IS A PERFECT SOLUTION FOR MID TO VERY HIGH CEILINGS" what does that mean?
Anyway keep updates if you have any issues, nice to have options.

Ya, that was my main concern as well, but I really like them. I bought them through Amazon so I figured I could return them if I did not like them.

I also liked that they used the LED tubes instead of integrated LED's. I want to be able to replace components if I need to.

I looked at these, but it appeared they could not be surface mounted without buying an additional bracket. Is this true?
I don't know. Their spec sheet doesn't provide any detail about surface mounting, but I find it hard to believe that it would be an issue. 4ft LED bulbs don't weigh much and I can't imagine there'd be a heat issue in an open fixture (even a closed fixture for that matter).

What would you use for an economical option with 8-ft ceilings? I'd prefer something a little more aesthetically pleasing than strip lights with open bulbs. Recessed can-style LEDs? Garage will be used just for parking and yard tool storage so no need for shadow-free task-level lighting. But that said I do like it BRIGHT!

matthimself456 - Ignoring the contradictory request ("Garage will be used just for parking and yard tool storage so no need for shadow-free task-level lighting. But that said I do like it BRIGHT!") Edge Lit Flat Panels.

Ha good point. I guess I meant I'd like more light than the normal builder-grade garage with 2 bulbs on the ceiling.

Thank you!

Edge Lit Flat Panels.

Do you have a current recommendation for edge-lit panels? Post #1003 (from your first post in this thread) is quite old and seems to have changed.

I’m trying to find 1x4 or 2x4 dimmable in 4000k+. I can wait if the pricing isn’t quite there yet, but I’m trying to make the most of just-shy of 11’ ceilings. Thanks.

astn - You'd need around 8000 Lumens @ 11ft to hit 93ft @ work-plane - assuming this is a workshop. That's a lot for a flat panel, but it does exist. Here's one (link)

Looking for guidance on lightning in my 36x60 barn.

On the enclosed side:
- General workshop, auto and toy tinkering / repair
- 12' ceiling
- wall finish is up in the air, plan on concrete (currently #3 road mix), white metal ceiling liner in place already
- I wish to mount the fixtures directly to ceiling
- winter ambient temps will be down to -30 deg F, although this side will probably be kept no cooler than 42 degrees.
- I will use direct drive garage door openers, so the space between the door guides on the ceiling will be "open space"

On the open / 3 sided side:
- parking for equipment
- 12' ceiling
- currently have 4' of OSB acting as a "bash board and it's open / exposed above that, currently #3 road mix will will likely stay that way, white metal ceiling liner in place already
- I wish to mount the fixtures directly to ceiling
- winter ambient temps will be down to -30 deg F

There are some good sample layouts for 4’ fixtures somewhere in the layout thread. I used them. The options might be 3 rows of 3, with options to add in 3 or 6 more lights. Page 2, Post 26 gives these options. I am using 20 lights in 750SF, each 4’ 5200L 5000k, and think it’s just right for my home garage and auto repair use.

Any thoughts on this layout and the lights themselves? The only modification I think I would make is on the 35x35 side (open bay side) is that I would use 6 fixtures opposed to the 8 they proposed.

Wanted to add lighting to my garage and came directly to this site and forum for inspiration. It's great to read all the post and suggestions on layouts, best products to use, tools and ideas that everyone provides. I used the layout tools to get an idea on what to buy and where to place the lights. I was fortunate to get my hands on free fixtures that were taking out of an old Sears repair center and ended up rewiring them for LED's. The Led Lights (EDI 48" 18W LED T8 - 2,590 Lumens - Direct Wire Single End) came from Pro-lighting with fast shipping and not to mention a discount that was offered for being a member of this site. In the end, I couldn't be happier with the results. I want to thank everyone for sharing. I've attached a few pics to show you my end results.

Looking for opinions on these LED lights. I want my 30x40, celing height 13-15.5 ft high shop to be very well lit.

I think someone else posted about those lights, have no idea on them. Check post 1850 With new LED technology seems small companies pop up sell for a few years then disappear.
These are similar also USA made or assembled here.

I have a 36 X 30 X14 shop that needs relamped. I currently have 28 dual 4' T8 fixtures in four rows of six. two fixtures over my work bench and two fixtures over my tool boxes, etc.

I would like to replace the T8s with LED bulbs. But don't know what I need.

The fixtures are powered from one end and other fixtures in that row are powered off the end of the previous fixture. Hope that makes sense.

So, what type of bulbs do I need to bypass the old ballast in each fixture?

Or do I need an LED ballast in each fixture??

As you can see I am starting to loose fixtures after 9 years of use.

I'd rather not replace the ballast in the fixtures as I think I'd need to replace all of them and the T8s.

thanks for any help.
