With a 9.5' ceiling in my work shop would i be better with these 230 degree bulbs?

http://www.beeslighting.com/product-p/t8r-48-22l-50k-b.htm

I know they are 5000k vs the 4000k in the original post. I am not crazy about the idea of 5000k, but if the 230 degree angle is better for the lower ceiling, then I will use the 5000k as the T5HO i am using now are 5000k i think.

Opinions?

I have several T5HO lights (6 fixtures i think) now and do not plan to replace until they give trouble. I have probably 35 spare bulbs too, but i dont want to spend $40 for just the fixture/ballast to use the T5HO vs upgrading to LED for the same or less money.

Unless someone knows of a cheaper T5HO fixture?

You can get them in a 4k or 5k in both the 120 and 230 degree bulbs. Just not positive they are all compatible with the fixtures.

Ebb_tide33 I was surprised to see that Bees is within pennies of the Commercial web site for the Maxlite fixture I was interested in. Hope you post some pics when you start installing your lights.

Just an FYI on Contractors Commercial... I placed an order for 15 fixtures and 30 led bulbs on 6-30 and still haven't received them. Can't get anywhere with them. They sent me a tracking number that says they have already been delivered....to a place in Michigan...I am in Iowa! I placed an identical order with BEES and had them in 6 days. Beware!!

I placed an order with them on May 20th for 15 fixtures and 30 bulbs. Received the fixtures 2 weeks ago and never received the tubes. Finally got ahold of someone who said they were the new owner and that he was not liable for the previous owners "screw ups" and that he was unable to send me any tubes or send me a refund. Looks like I am out $300.

I have 2 disputes in with PayPal for my 2 orders. I stupidly doubled down with them when they were still communicating with customers. They switched me to another bulb because the James light were not in stock at the moment. They said if i switched to this new bulb they would be able to ship my entire order the next day with free shipping for my inconvenience. 6 weeks later my garages are still dark. ConCom owes me $550 and $1530. :eyecrazy: One dispute was submitted about a week ago and the other went on Tuesday. I hope PayPal protection has me covered.

Best of luck to all of us that have orders with ConCom.

The bulb that they recommended to switch to is https://tawk.link/564cc78590d1bced6...c0b5c26333ec623/LEDXPERT_22watt_cut_sheet.pdf

USE THIS LINK INSTEAD

2900 lumens from 22w sounds like a pretty good bulb if that sheet is true. Anyone with any experience with this bulb?

Yes the order was placed at contractors commercial. I found out that pay pal account that we paid was a personal account of the owner of contractors commercial that he would run the business thru. If you paid with a credit card the new owner would have a record of it and would be able to help you. If you paid pay pal you have to file a claim and hope pay pal stands by there policy and issues refunds.

I think the OP should edit the first page warning other members of the shady company. I can for sure tell you bees is good to go. Just ordered my 3rd installment of 4 orders with them. Fast shipping, tracking numbers, no breakage.

I don't believe for a second that there is somebody new in charge. Wouldn't priority #1 be to remove the unavailable products from the website? Why are they still allowing people to purchase these bulbs? It looks like they spent our money before the inventory arrived. Now the product is discontinued and they don't have the money to refund us. Every time I've communicated with them I get a new far fetched excuse about something. After my initial correspondence with them I had a bad feeling. After searching elsewhere for over a week i finally bit the bullet since it was the only place I could find the 20w bulbs. I'm really regretting that now.

Best bang for the buck LED bypass 4ft 2-lamp strip light as of 5/7/2016:
(Note: bulbs sold in blocks of 30 only)

Price for 15 2-lamp 4ft LED bypass fixtures:

James ZY-T8-20W1200 BIXX-50K, Min Qty.30, $217.50 + $60 Shipping = $277.50/30 lamps = $9.25/lamp
(Be sure to get frosted lens)

4920 lumens

*********************************************
*********************************************
For less than 30 LED bulbs (last update 5/7/2016):

Price for 10 2-lamp 4ft LED bypass fixtures:

18W James/Diva Lite LED $10.88 x 20 = $218 + Free Shipping
(Be sure to get frosted lens)

4424 lumens
*********************************************

Aren't these two lamps pretty different?

The first lamp linked has 2460 lumens in a 240° arc.
The second lamp has 2212 lumens in a 120° arc.

I think the 2212 lumen lamp would appear brighter when standing directly under it or looking strait at it from a distance if comparing it to the 2460 lumen lamp. This could be due to the tighter arc of light output. (half to be exact)

So therefore it is only lighting half the area that the first lamp is lighting. Wouldn't the first lamp truly be brighter and spread the light better for a more even coverage and ridding dark areas and ceilings, even though the tighter arc lamp looked brighter side by side?

I bought 2 120 degree bulbs and 6 230 degree bulbs from bees today. Only difference I could see between them. Going to see which beam angle I prefer.

I have multiple 4 bulb 2x4 trouffer? Lights I got for free from work, I will try 2 bulbs in them and can always add 2 more later. If I don't like the 120 degree in them, I can always use them for workbench lighting. I have 13 light assemblies, going to clean them up and covert a few, probably use the others as t8's and get more bulbs later.

What would the group think about this fixture for a shop with 10 ft ceiling on half of the shop (workshop) and then 15 ft scissor truss ceiling in a single car lift bay?

http://www.samsclub.com/sams/4ft-led-shoplight-shoplight-led/prod16460030.ip?origin=item_page.rr3&campaign=rr&sn=CategorySiloedViewCP&campaign_data=prod20051839

Thanks!!

I personally would not touch those lights with a 10' pole for primary lighting. Maybe over a work bench for task lighting.

I have a new 34' by 30' attached garage with 13' ceilings. I installed 6 of these sams club fixtures $225 in a evenly laid out. I will say these are the best bang for the buck. I'm not sure why you would say they are junk. They aren't bullet proof that's for sure, the housing isn't the real thick old school type like your fluorescent fixtures are, however the lighting out of these are wonderful. I bought another 3 just so it would be an operating room! for the money IMO you cant beat these. 4500 lumen units vs Costco's 3800. I was going to buy the highbay bigazz 13000 but its the same price and I just wasn't sure about that light yet... for whats its worth that's my story

dragrcr890,

For residential garage duty, they probably will suffice. I did not say they were junk. But they are disposable if they fail. No serviceable parts inside. Anything with a cord pre-installed is usually what it is, a budget light. As long as you do not expect more, they are fine.

$225 for garage lighting is an awesome price if they perform to the lighting level you require.

I have 2, T8 diamond plate fixtures that I use for task lighting. They are still holding up. But I would not hang them as primary lights.

Enjoy!

I also advise staying away from Contractors Commercial. I placed an order for tubes and fixtures in the middle of May. Their website said everything was in stock at the time. I received the tubes after about 3 weeks but never received the fixtures. I looked back over my emails and I was told about 6 times they will be shipped "tomorrow" over a 2 week period! I should have just cancelled then, but one day they sent me a tracking # and then it showed the fixtures delivered to the wrong city. I never got them. Middle of July I told them to cancel my order of the fixtures as I was tired of waiting. He said they would send a refund. I never received it and they've ignored numerous phone calls and emails. I had to file a PayPal dispute so we'll see what happens there.

On the positive side, I reordered the MaxLite fixtures from Shine Retrofits and received the fixtures within 1 week. I got a phone call from Shine shortly after I received them to ask me if everything went OK with the order and the other day I got a thank you card in the mail from them!

Your post helped me in finding the best type of light fixture for my own garage. I was having a difficulty earlier this month when I was rummaging for my tools because the previous fixture was not helping at all.

Thanks a lot!

This spec sheet shows the James tubes with a 120 degree arc also.

http://www.ledlightingwholesaleinc.com/v/vspfiles/photos/uploads/Products/Spec/James/Magic%20Tube%20Spec722.pdf

I wonder if the Contractors Commercial site is wrong?

Cory

I got two responses from James industries now saying they are 120°. The ConCom is incorrect with the 240° spec.

I bought 2 120 degree bulbs and 6 230 degree bulbs from bees today. Only difference I could see between them. Going to see which beam angle I prefer.

Let us know how that works for you. Or PM me if you don't mind. Maybe even send pics of the lights side by side at their operating height and showing their beam bouncing off the floor.

When did you file your claim? I filed on 8-5 and have not heard anything yet. Great that you are getting your money back.

I just received an email from paypal stating I will be credited back the money I payed to commercial contractors. Thats a relief but I won't feel real good until I see the credit. They said to allow 5 business days.

So, I'm not terribly impressed with the diva 120 or 230 degree bulb. They are different, but not much. The 120 bulb has an aluminum back and the 230 doesn't. The 230 was about $2 cheaper and looks/feels it, but when the switch is on, not much difference. I dropped and busted one of the 230s.

Right now i have 7 led bulbs up and my old t5ho lights just kill them. Maybe i was expecting to much. The t5ho is rated at like 4600 lumens per bulb and the diva 2200, but i have seen led lumens out do fluorescent lumens(work)

Maybe its the 4000k temp i got, the t5hos are 5000k i think.

If i order more divas should i go 5000k?

I didnt think the led would outdo the t5ho, but thouht maybe 3 led bulbs would outdo 2 t5ho. I think the 4 t5ho fixtures i have up will provide more light than the 8 led fixtures i plan to have up( 5 right now) and i guess on paper they should.

So far not impressed. Debating buying more t5ho fixtures(i have probably 35 spare bulbs)

Everything i have talked about is 2 bulb fixtures.

Opinions? Advise? Money/energy matters, but i want to see too.

Or maybe they make higher lumen led tubes that arent $50-$80 each. I have seen tbem , but not close to $10
