AuroraSC - I stumbled onto that greenlightdepot website the other day when I was looking for alternative retrofit lamps. The fixture you linked to is a better deal than the Alphalite. It took more digging than should be required to get the claimed lumen output. Here's the spec comparison:

Alphalite (linked to PDF) 14410 lm, 110W, 131 L/W, $91.25 (free shipping over $1000)

Greentek (linked to PDF catalog) 16406 lm, 110W, 149 L/W, $93.99 (free shipping over $99)

If you have a means for mounting, this 1ft. x 4ft. Flat Panel LED - 40 Watt - Dimmable - DLC 4.2 Premium Approved - 5000 Lumens - LumeGen at $33 (link) is only a couple $ more expensive than the 2-bulb fixture on page 1.

Pros: Clean aesthetic and solid even panel of light.
Cons: Mounting and no ability to relamp (when it dies you toss the whole fixture).

You have several mounting options:
1. Make a box with an internal opening dimension of exactly 12 x 48, then put a 1/2" lip that protrudes towards the interior on all four sides (for the fixture to rest on) and 1/2" or larger lips that protrude towards the exterior to cover the drywall rough-in opening. Recess box into ceiling - secure to framing - drop fixture in.

2. Buy a Drywall Grid Adaptor Kit for $33 (link)

3. Buy the LumeGen 1x4 LED Panel Surface Mount kit $24 and frame accordingly so you can recess it. Note: This method has no external lip to cover the drywall rough-in opening.

I have a 14' x 50' section of shop that is 18' high. The lid and sides are all painted drywall semi gloss white. Anyway from reading here the last 3 days I am ***-uming the regular 4' LED strip lights and fixtures are not going to cut the lumen bill being so high? I can drop everything down a bit on chains a bit (maybe to 14')... From reading others it looks like something like this http://www.ledlightingwholesaleinc.com/James-High-Bay-2-Foot-165-Watt-p/zy-h5-165w.htm would be my best bet? maybe 4 of them? I am going to go with the 4' LED's on the rest of the shop with 8' ceilings..

I was just wondering if the specs and quality is the same in you opinion as the Maxlites from shine retrofits?

I have both the diva and maxlite fixtures. The diva is more of a traditional t8 fixture with ends that can be used to connect to each other by sliding into grooves. It also leaves the connection between fixtures wide open.

The maxlite fixture must be connected end to end with a ****** through a knockout, the end doesn't come off (riveted). It's also much smaller than the diva, probably closer to half the width.

At first I liked the diva better but went with maxlites instead and glad I did.

Thanks for that! The breakdown gives me one thing more to ponder. I have 2 fans in that shop area running during winter months. Do you think I'll get any prop wash or shadow flickering from the lights above fans (fans mounted at 18" below lid)? On a similar note would I perhaps get the same light moving/swinging if on chains with fan above? The fans operate on low setting just enough to push warm air down.. I suppose I could just turn the fans off if need be...

robz924 - I would put the fixtures at same height as fans and make sure they're securely mounted to prevent sway. Double pendant mounting is the most secure and aesthetically pleasing. 4 point hanging chains angled outward away from fixture center will also prevent sway.

I spoke with Joe at GreenLightDepot about forum pricing and he seemed interested. I'm looking at (9) for my purposes and he was able to get a little better than advertised pricing ($93.99 free shipping) for that quantity. The manual said warranty and lifespan are 5 years and commercial rated... Pretty sure they will go a lot longer than that. Must have been a typo? Bulbs from Light Up are still OOS showing "ship in 3-4 days". Just a matter of time until this project finally gets done...

Moser - can you elaborate more on why you are much happier with the maxlites vs the diva? Is it strictly the size? The diva's are cheaper, so curious about your comment.

I used 10 identical lights made by James Manufacturing and sold by different companies. I found flush mounting brackets for my 11 ft ceiling and the results are great. It is a VERY powerful light so make sure that you take advantage of the excellent built in dimmer functionality (1-10 volt dc control, requires 2 additional small gauge wires to each fixture and can be daisy chained) which will allow you to tailor the light output to your actual needs and also saves on power (1.1 KW when all lights are fully on!!!) In many cases 1/4 output is more than enough, it will also allow you to avoid guessing how to wire and switch lights individually, just turn them on and adjust the intensity.

My shop is about 1,000+ sq ft and is irregular shape so the shorter footprint gives much more flexibility in mounting without interfering with ceiling mounted devices (i.e. hoist I-beam, air and power reels, ceiling fan etc). I will post pictures when I am more done...

After reading the above post I called and was told it is not unusual for them to delete the product if it is out of stock until they are back in stock?? pointer80 - Without an actual IES file it's impossible to know if there's any significant difference. Generally a wider beam angle would be more suitable for lower ceiling heights, but I suspect they are only quoting the beam angle of the LED that's being used and not the resulting angle of the light emitting from the frosted lens.

just got my 165W greentek hb's in. struggling a bit getting the pic uploaded...

anyway I ran the 12/2 ceiling lights wiring years ago and see on the greentek fixture there is dimmer wires (grey and purple). I am not running any more wires at this point. Am I SOL as far as dimming these LED's? I was thinking I would just put in a dimmer switch and be done... No biggy either way as I set the lights up with 2 circuits so i can just turn 1 switch off and dim it 50% . But the dimming options sounds like fun no
