Platonic Solid, any chance of helping me with my layout for lights a few posts back please? I have a rough plan included. Was planning on spacing out the tubes between every other truss under the 2x4's that tie them together. Is that a dumb idea?

milesvdustin - The layout I made is using Qty. 68 4' LED bulbs in Qty. 34 2-lamp strip light housings. Suggested bulbs and housings are in post #1 of this thread. If you want to reduce the light output then you can reduce the amount of fixtures or have more than one circuit.

All - This is fixture thread not a layout thread. I don't have time to help everyone, though posting your own thread with details, pictures and drawings is more likely to get a response. Linking to a CAD file is even better.

Platonic Solid: I really could use your help if you wouldn't mind sir.

Garage Specs: Single car - 35 L x 12.5 W x 8.2 H
Use: Professional Detailing
Needs/Goals: No shadows anywhere, ability to see better into interior and on side of cars.

I am a professional detailer and work out of this garage from my home. I do paint correction and ceramic coatings, and everything in between, so having no shadows and the ability to see as much as possible on the interior and sides of car is important.

I currently have (3) basic two-tube 4ft Lithonia Florescent fixtures with electronic ballasts. I am running Feit Electric 4100k 14W LED Tubes that advertise 1700 Lumens a piece. One is buzzing and the 4100k light color is not proper temperature for a detailer. I need 5k hence the reason to go out with the old and in with the new.

I ordered 4 of the Diva LED Ready Fixtures and (8) of the Diva 2200 Lumen 5K LED 18w LED tubes for $6.99 from Bees, but have since canceled my order because I feel like I jumped the gun somewhat without consulting first. I keep reading the Maxlite fixture is a better option for the couple dollar difference per unit so I will go with those as long as its a still a solid recommendation.

I have included some photos for you to get an idea of the layout. I am going to paint the drywall semi-glass while and probably either paint the concrete wall or cover with white plastic sheeting to help with the brightness factor and dust control.

Was really hoping you can help guide me in the right direction regarding ceiling lighting and also wall lighting for the sides of the car/interior view. The track lighting system you see are 5k Phillips bulbs @ 900 or so lumens a piece. These are specifically for correcting swirls and scratches in paint.

The light stand to the left of the car are Par38 5k LEDs @ 1200 lumens each. The LED fixture hung temporary at the 90* where the wall and ceiling meet is a Commercial Electric 4000k rated at 3200 lumens. I just had the thought to place it there to help spread light on the inside of the car for an interior job I had yesterday. Problem is I just don't know how to mount light for that purpose, how many I should have and where I should mount them.

Sorry for such a long, drawn out post, but I have seen that you have really helped others out and would be super appreciative if you might be able to recommend what you think. As a professional detailer I have incredible OCD and this kind of thing makes me lose sleep at night.

Sean

how long does Lightup.com usually take to process and ship an order? Ordered Thursday last week, and still shows processing?

Just wanted to say thank you to Platonic Solid and other who contribute to this thread. I'm getting moved into a new house and the garage was a little lacking in the light department. This is solved now.

Based on the recommendations in this thread, I ordered 10 Maxlite LSS2XT8USE4803 fixtures from Shineretrofits. I paired this with 20 GLL T8 LEDs from prolighting. I spent a nice weekend with my Dad fishing wiring through the attic and hooking everything up. I ended up with the nearest 6 lights on one switch and the far 4 on another (they're covered by the garage door when it's up). Super happy with the outcome and I can't wait to get the rest of my garage set up.

Another project was the Armorpoxy floor coating, but that's for another thread.

Sallad- Interested in your Armorpoxy experience. I need to make a decision on a floor coating/epoxy soon. Link to thread when it’s available would be awesome. Thanks!

Ordered 120 LEDTB4F1000037558-5000K lights from lightup.com October 10th. Have not seen anything yet. I hope I do not have to wait until December for them to get the next connex from China.

I see that others have received their orders ahead of mine. Please be aware of this if you order from lightup.com. Seems they are fine letting large orders wait to fulfill smaller ones. Good pricing if you can wait several months with no communication from the vendor.

Monday I ordered 30 tubes from these folks T8 LED Tube

arrived Wednesday, installed them Thursday and Friday, standard shipping. Good product, purchased the tube that allow it to be direct wired, eliminating a point of failure (ballast)

5 year warranty/ 50k hours

What is a good fixture for new build 14' high ceiling 30x40 shop? The "best light ever" appears to be a retrofit. This fixture does not have bulbs but LED strips inside. Is that a good or bad thing?

I just went through this exercise with the help of Platonic Solid. He suggested these for my 13' ceilings (27 X 36 building) and I'm quite pleased with them so far. I have 2 installed temporarily and they light the whole space! 10 more to install. It'll be like the sun in there when I'm done. They do sell different versions with higher or lower Lumen output in the same package. They were delivered quickly and I was able to get 10% discount on the whole order.

How are you going to get up there to clean out bugs?

I'm planning on installing ~30, 4' double lamp light fixtures in the garage. They will be flush mounted.

Yesterday I found someone selling these fixtures. I'm not sure what they are called I wouldn't now a troffer from a truffle. Anyway they don't appear to be a flush mount, but I thought I would ask. Looking at the photo they appear to hold more than 4 bulbs. The description stats otherwise. I think I could just rewire them for LED so the listed rated voltage shouldn't matter ? Probably will to stick with the original plan, but I am curious.

One dozen 24" x 48" four bulb fluorescent lights. Removed for a remodel. These lights are 220v, use less electricity than 110v lights.

Platonic Solid - First, thanks for this thread. Second, any links to a good value on 8' T8 ready fixtures? Everything I've seen is 4'. I plan to retrofit my current fixtures as $$$ allows, but it would seem silly to have to buy additional fixtures with ballasts so I can have them all matching.

DSMR - I've had good luck communicating with LightUp via their online chat.

clawman - See post #500 in Layout Collection thread.

smalltown - I made you a layout 2 years ago (link). Procrastinate much? ;)

aka Larry - Best I can tell you is hit each link on post #1 and search. There are tons of these kits out there.

smalltown - as for those fixtures - Free is good, but I wouldn't pay for them. Yes, you could rewire them, but if the sockets are old, they might be brittle and break = spending money on old fixtures that aren't ideal for your space.

Platonic they wanted $5 a piece. Had to buy all 12. I was just curious.

Don't blame you if you think I will never get my lights, sometimes things just get pushed back with priorities. Believe it or not I'm getting ready to order per you recommendation.

There are a lot of new cost effective fixture options today that weren't an option when I did your layout. I'll take a second look at it to see if I'd do anything different today. I'll post result in your original thread.

Platonic the only difference now is that I took your suggestion, and relocated the storage unit that was on the right hand side. It is now on the rear left wall. Let me draw something simple and post it with a photograph.

Here is the modified hand drawing with the implement storage rack removed, and showing the storage rack moved to the rear left.
I included 3 photos to show as it stands. Messy but getting there slowly.
Because of my ceiling heater the original 4 light you suggested will not be flush mounted. I will hang them down from something. I would like to install cabinets over my workbench "L" shape in the rear right corner.

I do like the Maxlite ...4803 fixture they appear to be a good quality from what has been posted.

DSMR - Dang! Over 2 months. That's not acceptable.

FWIW - I ordered from LightUp in late Sept. I received my tubes about a week ago. They don't respond to chat or emails in anything resembling a timely manner. I won't make the mistake of ordering from them in the future.

I've called them 3 times regarding my original order and a subsequent order. I was on the line with a courteous rep within a few minutes each time and had my questions answered quickly and professionally. They seem to have their act together. They're in PA, have a big staff and are a pleasure to deal with based on my experience.

Are any of these lights that have been posted dimmable? The reason I ask is because I use my garage for working in and want it bright, but I also use it for relaxing and don't want the lights too bright or glare on the TV. If they are dimmable I get the beat of both worlds.

R--simply install some low power lights for your other purpose.

I keep each work area's lights on a separate power strip so I can select which areas to light.

My garage is finished drywall and I can't add any additional circuits.
