I ended up going with Hyperikon hybrid tubes and and happy with the results. Very comparable to my old fluorescent T8s in terms of light but much better with instant on light!

i got 20 bulbs from Greenlightdepot, and i got 10 light fixtures from Homelectrical, the bulbs i think were $8.00 and the fixtures were $19.00, there was a amount from both companies that if you go over you get free shipping , i think it was $100, but the bulbs and fixtures cost me like $350 they work great in my 24X40 barn i would recommend this setup

Thank you.

Sorry should have stated they have a sale right now when you add to cart they are discounted to $30.56 a fixture. I just thought there might be a way to find something in the $20 range since it is just empty housings really.

Looking for new lights

Ceiling - 8' 4"
Roughly 21' * 21'

On the left wall I have shelving that comes out 28" from wall and similiar on right side.
I also have a beam almost the center that comes down 15"

I have an idea of the layout I want to try just not sure which lights with a lower ceiling like mentioned.

Anybody have any feedback on these lights or similar off of Amazon? It is $170 for the Amazon ones or $500 for the 1x4's.

I like the 1x4 lights PS recommends, but seeing if there is a more cost effective way as I have another area to install lights and seeing if I can save a little money. 10 for $170 seems great on the surface for close to 5k lumen shop lights.
https://www.amazon.com/Garages-Daylight-Ceiling-Wrapround-Worklight/dp/B07F6PSD91/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=10+pack+4ft+led+shop+light+5000+lumen&qid=1608654922&sr=8-1

For comparison, here are the 1x4's that work great from PS which are $50/ea.

stylngle2003 - This bulb works with or without ballast, single end or double end wired, so you can toss your new ballast. I assume you have a special relationship with that 2ft fixture or don't have room for the 4ft budget shop lights everyone sells.

Just bought 6 of those bulbs from GLD; four for our main closet, two for our pantry. The closet flor bulbs are starting to not start.

If I never post again, $10 says it was the 120 vac that did me in.

Thank you to all the contributors to this thread. Based on the information in this thread, I recently ordered, from Prolighting, 4 PL-T8-F18-AB-50K bulbs and the R844T8U non-shunted socket conversion kit and completed my first 8' T12 conversion to LED.
LED conversion 1 r.jpg
Here is the converted fixture next to a standard T8 fluorescent. My fixtures are inexpensive ones from Lowes and the replacement socket holders needed to be mounted all the way to the end of the fixture instead of with a 1/8" gap. I was able to reuse my ballast covers once I ordered some extra t-clips from PL.

And they sent me the wrong lights. :(

Instead of ballast bypass, they sent PlugNPlay bulbs. The diagram on the bulb shows the ballast is needed. They also sent me 10 bulbs instead of the correct 6; which leads me to believe that they stuck the wrong address and shipping label on the wrong box or accidentally switched them with another order.

E-mail sent to Green Led Dept, we'll see what they do. First order (of about 6) that was messed up.

Whats best bulb to use for maxlite?

LED BULBS

LEDMyplace WEN-T8-4FT-18WF(4000K) 48" 18W LED T8
2400 Lumens per bulb, 120° Beam Angle, Single Ended Power
4000K - 120-277V - 133 Lumens/Watt - Frosted Lens - Extruded Aluminum Body
$6.99 ea. (link) - no minimum - Free Shipping $99

Greentek Energy Systems GT-T8-18W1200 BIXX(5000K)(3000K) 48" 18W LED T8
2520 Lumens per bulb, 120° Beam Angle
Universal Ballast Compatible / Ballast Bypass via Single End or Opposing End Wired
5000K or 3000K - 120-277V - 140 Lumens/Watt - Frosted Lens - Extruded Aluminum Body
$7.99 ea. (link) - no minimum - Free Shipping $99

Looks like the greentek is out of the 4000k until March 2021. Is it a much superior bulb compared due to it being Ballast Bypass via Single End or Opposing End Wired...does it matter that the LED WEN is single ended power?

Depends on your fixture. If you're using a new fixture, it will be wired one way or the other...single end or double end. You should get the tubes to match. If you're retrofitting an old fixture, get double end.
The tube from LightingMyPlace is generic, meaning that they wont tell you who the manufacturer is. The tube from Greentek is by James Industries.

Hey guys! New here. So please bare with me if I’m in the wrong thread. I recently leased a new warehouse that I’ll use for storage and a work shop. It currently has 8 foot 4 bulb fluorescent flush mount t8s. The lighting is horrible. The warehouse interior is 18.5 x 86 with 14 foot ceilings. I will be building out a break room thats 7x14 with a 8 foot ceiling. As well as a workshop that’s 11x20 with an 8 foot ceiling as well. I will be using the top of both rooms for storage. All help is needed. I’m stumped on what I should do for lighting. Attached is a floor plan of what I’ll have in there. Disregard the lofted area in the back with the two rooms below it. It’ll be sheet rocked off with high hats .

ive been using the bulbs in OP in my storage area and garage and love them.

has anyone looked at quality higher (90+) CRI tubes? i find myself in need of lighting for a new workbench, and the better CRI would be nice for its usage.

also still unsure on color temp. was thinking maybe 4000K for that area? itll be mainly used for computer projects (building, programming, etc) and smaller electronics (arduino, raspberry pi), 3d printing.....

The Depot got back to me: The bulb is mis-labeled; it is indeed ready for ballast bypass. They sent me instructions since none were included; they were the same as those on their site.

Installed four bulbs in two flor fixtures in our main closet. Worked perfect, very bright white light. Very pleased with Green Led Depot.

As fast as LED technology is changing, I think I will buy a few extra fixtures for replacement when needed.
Those Lithonia CPHB look like something I might try.

The 4ft LED lights linked in the OP from GreenLightDepot have been mostly sold out for weeks now. I installed the MaxLite fixtures about a month ago, but have no bulbs to test them out with.

Are there any good alternatives or another location to buy these from? I would prefer to have 5000k.

Interior Size of the Garage is 21.4 x 18.4 x 8.5ft, aiming for 100FC+

Ill have a bench on the far wall (opposite of the water heater).

Painting the Walls Harbor Gray with some light color of Racedeck flooring, I really want white... at least that is the goal hah.

Edit: since I have lower ceilings I think I should be looking at wrap around fixtures...WIP

I bought from Prolighting.com. They use to have a GJ discount

Thank you. Just ordered some bulbs there - they look to be about the same as the other ones.

I want to get bulbs installed so I can decide if I want to install more fixtures before calling the lighting complete.

First post here. I've read this thread several times - lots of information and options. I am ready to wire and install lighting in a 30x56x12 shop building with white metal ceiling and white walls. My primary activity will be woodworking.

I'm looking for advice on good options? Want to minimize shadows and not go overboard on costs. I'm not sure what the best FC target might be. I had read 75 might be a good number.

Thanks!

Will you use the whole space as a wood shop? Most of the recommendations are for 100FC at counter height. Some will say that is too much.
For detail work more light is better but also with no shadows.
If you shoot for 75 fc overall you can always add task lighting over the main work benches.
I'm using these lights: https://www.beeslighting.com/LHB-065W-U-50K-D10
I'm just getting started with them in a 24x40x10'6" wood shop, the Visual lighting layout called for 15 lights. I think I can get away with 12 we will see.

This is another fixture I considered but it's not dimmable. https://www.prolighting.com/commercial-lighting/ledready/t443ssubcxx00p0-18w5k.html

At 12' ceiling height you don't need much more than 8000 lumen.

Most of the area will be shop area. I've been looking at the 2nd option you mentioned in their 8' configuration. Prolighting sales calculated 12 of these for 86 fc which translates into 24 4' fixtures.

Just snagged 12x Thomas Lighting FWN232EB for $19 each on clearance which are wrap around prismatic fixtures. Free shipping to boot.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003NJHA3A/?tag=atomicindus08-20 Looks like they are just wired conventionally (florescent) so just need to bypass the ballast.

Got these bulbs $4.83 a bulb and free shipping https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074NWSY6J/?tag=atomicindus08-20

So I'm at about $30 a fixture shipped which is great. Now I got to figure out the wiring.

Suggesting that you double check that Thomas fixture. It's what we would normally use for undercabinet lighting, not for ceiling lighting. It only has a lens on one side (just like an undercabinet light), so light only throws in one direction.

Great thread! I am about half through it. I wonder if anyone has tried Type-C tubes with external dimmable driver.

I dont recall seeing any, but they're one of the best choices if you are definitely going to use dimming.

Yes, I am looking for dimming. I have been looking for tubes and for some reason, the 5000k are hard to find. I am still time away from the project... just starting to look.

I think I need some high bay lights.
I'm at a loss as to how many and what kind of fixture to get.
Area to be covered is 36' x 48', 17'+ to the flat part of the truss, 10' wall with a 5.5 pitch. This will be sheet rock ceiling painted white.
I'm thinking 3 rows of 5 lights each.
This is the hardest part of the build...

I'm in need of some high bays as well. What's the go to brand and place to get these? Searching through the posts in this thread only yielded a couple of mentions to high bay lights and only one part number, which is not on sale right now.
