The best wrench holder I've ever used ...

When I was a kid, my dad gave me a bunch of tools one Christmas. At the time, I didn't really appreciate them, but it turns out that it's one of the longest-lasting gifts I've been given. Anyway, among those tools was a wrench holder, which has no markings other than the patent:

https://www.google.com/patents/US5346063

The first image in that patent is a perfect likeness of the holder. What makes this holder unique is that the although wrenches are securely held in place during transport, they can be both inserted and removed by pushing down ... so unlike many holders, you can easily remove a wrench with one hand. Unfortunately, there is no branding at all on this thing. Anybody seen a wrench holder similar to this / know what it is?

Well it says in 1997 it was owned by HAND TOOL DESIGN CORPORATION and Easco Hand Tools was the owner as of 2004.

Bought a few sets of Craftsman wrenches that came with something very similar, I still use them in my box. The wrenches sort of snap in to place but are easy to remove.

Guessing that I purchased both the metric and SAE sets in the mid to late 90's. Honestly, I thought they were common.

I threw 2 of those in the trash a couple weeks ago. They came with the Gearwrench flex head wrenches I purchased. I tried for a couple months to give them away and no one wanted them. Go figure.

On one hand, I'm sad to hear that since I'd have gladly paid for shipping ... on the other hand, it's nice to know that for the low-low price of $135 I can get a second wrench hold on Amazon ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HBC7QC/?tag=atomicindus08-20 ) with a free set of super-nice flex head gearwrenches...

Looks a lot like my Hansen organizers.

I have been really happy with mine so far. I ended up cutting the handles and hanging slots off on a bandsaw so that I could optimize space in my toolbox.

I understand the need for wrench holders but I own/use/hoard so many that I'd need a toolbox twice the the size.

I picked up a couple the same style from Sears awhile ago. Gave up on the wrench rolls after trying a few. Been happy with this kind, but their inherent design makes storage of them a challenge.

Instead of using drawers for wrenches, I use that type of wrench-holder on the wall, w/Geartrack tool holder strips, which also hold a variety of other tools and some chargers. I also like and use the screwdriver holders which project outwards from the wall, and allow a stack of sized screwdrivers to take-up little wall space. Yes, a one-handed grab removes/replaces a wrench.

I made these wrench holders out of
Foam for use on my Trike. It keeps them
from rattling , and I was able to get more
wrenches in the compartment than using
those forked up holders.
It’s not Kaizen foam, but I was able to
just sharpen a scraper really sharp and
kind of dig out the holes.
If this type of holder was made on some
type of machine, some of the wrenches
could have been closer together making
a little more room.

I have the Craftsman style and the work well, but sometimes I have to pry a wrench out. The handle also takes up a lot of space it the drawer.

OP's version seems to be a push-latch mechanism design. Push the wrench down and it toggles into place. Push down again and it toggles back out freely.

Though this thread is five years old, you can find exactly what Danjayah writes about on Amazon for $10 shipped.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Q01ORUM/?tag=atomicindus08-20

The product is a Tekton wrench holder. I've used a couple of them for years and I'm quite happy with them. I have one color for metric and one for SAE and have them hanging on the wall.

Those are not the same. The advantage of the OPs wrench holder is that the wrenches release by pushing. No pulling required.
