Busy weekend, I didn't do anything car or shop related except for driving the e9 to Road Atlanta. I did get to hang out in a shop of sorts.

I have a buddy at Whelen that set my wife and I up with team passes, it was amazing. I was busy and a little bit in awe so I didnt take a ton of pictures. Watching the pit crew work was honestly more exciting than the race to be honest. I think my wife even had fun.

Sunday we went an looked at a house that might be it but its the tippy top of our budget and needs some updates so Im not sure. But the garage situation is kinda interesting... slightly oversized 2 car with really high ceilings, a pull in basement with room for at least 3 cars nose to tail, and a detached single. It should be cool but I would have 3 garages to fix up, which could be fun or overwhelming.

Made an offer on the house that I mentioned in the previous post. We low balled a little bit but it was pretty dated and had been on the market a while. The seller countered..... $500 off the asking price......... The hunt continues.
Nick, I'm a firm believer the house of your dreams will come to you. You have to be patient and sometimes it's the house next door to the one you look at so keep looking.

We are under contract on a new house... The Bimmer Basement will likely be up for sale a week from today. I will post more info on the new place soon, but the garage is a bit of a downgrade but the house and basement are a huge upgrade. The garage is a basic 2 car and I plan on keeping it simple and clean. Stay tuned.

Teaser of the new place.

I dont think there is room for another wash bay but to be honest, I haven't been using it much lately. I am going to probably just wall mount the pressure washer set up on the wall in the garage. The water heater is in there so I will have pretty easy access to hot and cold water. The basement is going to be rad though. Plenty of room for a bar/pool table/ theater room/ etc etc.

Congrats!

I know this is Garage Journal, but a garage isn't everything. You're living space matters too and you have to do what's right for your family. There's a lot you can do with a 2-car and we know you have good taste and skills. The new house and lot look lovely from the outside. Must be exciting times, looking forward to seeing more!

We really need another bedroom for the kiddos and adding another floor to our house was going to be outrageous. I don't want to leave my house but this is definitely an upgrade and will be better for the family.

awesome house, Do you have room to build a shop? later down the road.
Sadly no. That was the plan when we started looking but we just couldn't find anything in the right school district with room for us and a shop. The plan now is to treat this house as a "10-15 year plan." I am still close to my parents shop, so I can keep stuff there and I can fit 4 cars at the new place (2 in the garage and 2 outside.) At some point I will inherit my parents house and we could move there or sell it and build a new house on land or even just buy a building somewhere car storage. Basically, as long as my parents are around, I really dont need a shop of my own.

The struggle is real. Its hard to find everything that checks the boxes. Unless your a baller which Im not. Good looking house. Looks like its newer construction. I assume theres not a whole lot of upgrades you ll need to do. The market out in my neck of the woods very rarely have a "shop". If they do have one most likely wayyyy over priced. Even if they do have the land its damn near impossible to get a permit to build.

Yep, this place is move in ready. The only thing we really want to do is finish out the majority of the basement.

Sadly, I cant make the basement into a garage. There wouldn't be a good way to drive down there frequently. But its going to be a billiard room with a large tv area and a bar. We are also going to add a full bath since its stubbed out for it, and an office for my wife. Even after all that, there would still be a large storage area. If we were to sell, we could easily make that another bedroom and make a lot of money on the house.

So the current house went live Saturday and we already have a pretty decent offer and one more coming in today. I have a feeling it will be under contract by lunch today. This feels really weird.

Here is the Zillow listing.

On a car related note, I hit a dear with my wagon on the 11th. He shot out of no where but I only clipped him. Thankfully it looks like its just a headlight lens and the new parts came in over this weekend. Hopefully it wont be a big deal to fix but I makes me want to start hunting again.

I also have been driving the wagoneer a ton lately and I wanted a cup holder and a place to put my phone/sunglasses/etc etc. People do make center consoles but they are pretty pricey. I happened to come across an Igloo KoolRest on ebay and it just felt like a perfect fit.

I just noticed this, but I might be in a few of your photos from hot-pit side. I was with the HPD guys going back and forth between MSR and WTR for the beginning of the race.

Looking forward to seeing what the new setup looks like. Any plans on adding a shop out back or on the side?

Wow. You got lucky on that deer impact, as it could have been much worse. One of my coworkers has hit two deer so far this year with his GTI. The latest one totaled a $1200 headlight and damaged two doors plus the hood.

Another thought is a two car garage off the end of the driveway. It sounds like fill dirt would be required but that’s not a show-stopper. If you’re like we were when our kids were small, money for a garage can be hard to justify. Regardless, the house looks great!

Its now officially official. We close both deals on Jan 11th and we will be out of this house buy Jan 18. I am excited about the new house but really sad to leave this one. I put a lot of work and time into this place.
Consider the current home a trail run at what works exactly like you wanted and what didn't quite hit the homerun you hoped-for. And the new place as a blank canvas to rework into your hopes and dreams.

This has helped me to rationalize the house/shop moves in my life.

Your results may vary.

Looks like you have a great place to move to. My house has lots of trees around it, I bought this house for the shade canopy and if it was all removed I'd sell as well - so certainly understand your thinking there.

As if the moving wasn't enough, my dad and I just pickup another project. Thankfully it doesnt need much.

There is a tiny bit of rust around the rear side windows, a small ding on the rear quarter, the headliner is sagging, and the drivers seat needs some love. Other than that its extremely clean. On another note, we full.

The Grand Wagoneer is great.... Like hardly any issues. A few rattles here and there, the high beam switch and fogs dont work, slight stumble on idle, headliner, etc etc. Just little fiddly bits to work out. I took it out last night with the family to look at Christmas lights.

The kids were extremely excited.... they were fast asleep by the second house.

Other than that we have just been packing.... I am never moving again..

My dad bought it a little over a week ago on cars and bids. 88 with 175k miles.
Looks like he did OK. The values on them are all over the place. They're fun trucks to ride around in - I look forward to the day mine is as nice as yours. It has the frame rot right around the fuel tank and needs some panels patched up and a full respray.

It's official. The Bimmer basement has sold. We will be completely out by the 18th. I'll post some pics when the place is empty and that will probably be the end of this thread. What a ride...

I have been less and less active on forums and social media in general so I'm on the fence about making a thread for the new place. I probably will but the garage is going to be simple and slow to get off the ground. But here are a few teasers should I make a new thread.
