Happens to all of us! That's how I learn about what NOT to do haha. :D Vise is comin along great!

Funny thing is that I was fully prepared to accidentally burn myself welding because it has been so long. Now that I have had a few beers watching the uga game I almost want to give it another go but I think that can wait until tomorrow. Haha

Really really really like the look you have going in your garage here! The exposed brick and red columns are awesome!
Since you are going to be sheet rocking the ceiling in the future, make sure you keep that in mind now with plumbing and electrical so that you can just furr out a chase around it and not have to drop the entire ceiling down.
Also, and time you do plumbing or electrical renovations beyond changing fixtures you have to get the respective permit unless your city is just really lax. Not that I've done so for any of my remodeling projects however.

I probably should have gotten permits, but we will keep that in the down low. ;)

I finally got the vise finished up today. I started by getting some self etch primer down.

The light is awesome.

The Reno is pretty nice too. Good luck. I also have a basement garage. Looks like a ton of space. Keep the updates coming.

Anyone have experience with bug bombs?

There's some critter tips I have seen that suggest that mint oil mixed with some water will help get rid of spiders and mice. Heck, get a cheap deck sprayer and mix up a batch and spray every couple of days. Good luck.

Re: My first post and basement garage build.

Got the vise mounted today.

15066674160_40d89f9359_b.jpg

I used AN hardware so it should be plenty strong, its nice to work in the aviation business.

15252960182_68316fcdd3_b.jpg

This should hold for now but I might mount a steel plate under the bench eventually.

After I got the vise mounted I finally got my bench cleaned up and back in order.

I need to do a lot more organizing and start working on the floors.

Nice work on the garage. The vise came up very nice and that anvil is to die for.
I love that triple stripe on the Beemer as well.

Re: My first post and basement garage build.

A little tip, take your time working on your projects. A wire wheel attached to your most powerful drill is not the best tool for cleaning rust off small parts.

I feel pretty stupid right now.

You bought back a bad memory there..... I was using a 8in knotted wheel on a 6 in bench grinder with no guard. The clamp loosen and reached over the wheel to grab the grinder before it fell. Still got the scares to show and hair on wrist never grew back.

Using a sofa to sit, while drinking a beer, and admiring the finish on your airplane is an aeronautical purpose.

Hahaha. This is the plane that's usually in there.

I have spent a lot of time drinking a beer and looking at it. Haha

The whole house was bad.

Sure I love doing renovation stuff.

Thanks.

By the way does anyone know how you go about getting a thread title changed? I think The Bimmer Basement would better describe my shop.

Got the spider shed cleaned out today.

Most of what was in there is in the trash or sitting on the curb in front of my house waiting for pick up. But I did find a couple of useful things in there.

That metal table is pretty sturdy and will come in handy, but the score of the day was this.

aa581068052cc0e02d02c957454995fb.jpg

I had a ball but it's in the neighbors yard now. :(

Anyway later this week I'll start to move some of the scrap wood and random **** out of the basement and either into the shed or the trash.

It is crazy how much construction has changed! I was mad that I had one mono post in my garage, I don't know what I would do with that many! Kudos to you though for making the most of the space.
I built a similar countertop in my garage but sheeted one end of it with 1/4" metal where I mounted the vise, I found myself beating the hell out of that end because of the vise and the metal added extra rigidity.

Lookin good!

Thanks for the replies and kind words. I finally got all the **** and wood out of the basement.

Sadly the shed is now just about full.

I even wore a little path out between the shed and my basement.

Hopefully I can get some more painting done this weekend and maybe hang some lights in that corner of the basement.
