Man this place is coming along amazing! Just another Idea for areas that see water is this FRP Board, It's easy to install, waterproof and cheaper than stainless. Too bad you aren't closer, I have a couple of VW Detroit wheels I would be more than happy to donate for a hose reel if you wanted it.

I have thought about that fiberglass board but I think aluminum would look better. Speaking of pressure washers, I modded my wand a little. So I bought a short wand to make my foam lance easier to spray.

It was a little awkward hanging off the end of the long gun that came with my pressure washer but the short gun is less than ideal for rinsing off cars. So I took apart the gun that came with the pressure washer and added a fitting to the lance from that gun. Now I have a $5 quick release extension, rather than a $45 one. :lol_hitti

I haven't tried it on a car yet but it seems to work great dusting off the driveway.

I also borrowed my parents pull saw and cleaned up the tree in the front yard in preparation of some work we have planned for the front porch this weekend. As you can see(barely, because this is a terrible photo) the tree behind the dumpster is touching the house and kinda taking over the front porch.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Here it is now after I went a little nutty with the pole saw. Ive trimmed it up like this before and it filled back in nicely, so I dont think I hut the tree.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Anyway, hopefully the rain holds off and we can get the porch project taken care of this weekend.

Didnt do much in the garage this weekend but did a major curb appeal project. Here was the old country style front porch.

Busting out the angle grinder... Check out all the OSHA approved safety gear.....

In process.

And the finished product, after a good coat of Thompsons water sealer.

Wow that front porch redo looks great! Is that cedar? Also what spray gun did you go with for your pressure washer? Is that the one that obessed garage carries or did you do your own version?

Thanks, and yeah its cedar. As for the gun, its all cheaper stuff from amazon, but as it breaks I will replace it with better stuff.

I posted this in the "What did you do in your garage thread" but I figure I would add it here.

Got super nerdy with my wash buckets. I wanted plain white buckets with no logos or warning labels on them. Before spending $30 each on "prepper" buckets I checked Harbor Freight and found these guys for $4.99 each.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Peeled the warning stickers off and put on my labels so I dont get them confused.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

And mounted them in my rollers. I need to get another red roller, make a plate connecting them(Im not paying $20 for the plate when I can make one for $4) and use the black one for my wheel cleaning bucket.

Kinda what I do now. I have one white bucket that is about 4" taller than the other white bucket [rinse/wash respectively] and I've got an orange wheel bucket. That'll work until my memory starts to go. I do like those roller bases, though. Back-savers.

FWIW, I think either Home Depot or Lowes sells those white food-safe buckets for around that cost as well. I know they at least used to. I use them with Gamma lids to store dog food. One of the two sold the buckets and the other sold the lids. I remember being rather annoyed having to make 2 trips at the time.

Played around in the shop a little last night. Rigged up this little piece of aircraft control cable... 1/16" and good for almost 500lbs..

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Plenty strong enough to hold up the stop light.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Im not 100% sure its staying here but Ill give it some time.

Then I spent a little time getting the old shop back in order..... as you can see from the dust I made some progress but its going to be a long up hill battle..

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

I can only do so much work without major progress so I decided to take a break and work on my detailing cabinet. I think I need to make some changes, but its much better.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Tonight I will get back to getting the old shop(basement) back in order but I think thats going to take a few months.

One thing I found helpful for organizing a cabinet similar to your detailing one is plastic milk crates sometimes fit nicely on the shelf and offer the ability to store things way in the back but still retain access to them. I'm still very jealous of your new shop and addition!

cabinet shelves are sometimes nice too, tall stuff on top and smaller brushes, sponges, whatever on the bottom

You'd be surprised how many handy items like the cabinet shelves can be found at Marshall's.

I need to look next time the wife drags me there.

So I took the week off work and decided to spend the last couple of days detailing my daily driver. Ive had it a year and havent even waxed it. It was pretty dirty since we have had a ton of rain, it took a couple of hours just to get it washed and the engine cleaned.

What I started with.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Rince, clean wheels, foam, wash, claybar, fall out remover, foam, rinse, and dry... It was a job.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Cleaned and dressed engine.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Cleaned the interior and dressed the leather with Gyeon leather coat, great stuff. I think the interior was dirtier than I though, I wasn't expecting this.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Then I busted out the polisher...

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Pulled the wheels and cleaned the fender wells, and sealed the wheels.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Then hit the trim with Gyeon Trim, great stuff as well.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

And the finished product after sealing and applying the Griots glass sealant.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Im glad I sealed the glass because we are driving it 6 hours to the beach tomorrow......in the rain. :lol_hitti Oh well, it should be much easier to keep it clean from now on.

I also wanted to conjoin my bucket dollies but I didnt want to spend $20 on the plate they sell so I made one with some scrap from work. I need to round the edges and polish it but I think it came out great for $4.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

I couldnt leave the shop a mess so I pulled everything out and gave it a good mopping, now its time for a few days relaxation at the beach.:beer::beer:

Knowing you detail like a boss, what does the clay bar do, is it like ultrafine sand paper? What do you use to clean/dress the engine? What do you use to clean the leather?

Sent from my LG-H918 using The Garage Journal mobile app

Not trying to steal your thunder Bimmer, but I'm a detailer too and I love this thread. The Jeep looks great by the way.

Houdini, a clay bar removes embedded contaminates from the surface of your paint (tar, paint overspray, metallics (think brake dust), and can even remove old waxes and sealants). The goal is to keep those contaminates out of your polishing pads and to ensure your polishing the actual paint and not the junk over top of it. Sealants and waxes also bond better to clean bare paint.

I'll let Bimmer answer the others.

So I typed out a response to this while sitting on the beach last week but apparently it did not send. I cleaned the engine with a little simple green extreme(aluminum safe), soapy water and brush. The rinsed it with the pressure washer and sprayed on this rubber and plastic dressing we sell at work(its not great, next time I will use something different.) I usually let it run for a while so that the dressing and water dry a little. As for the leather I used Lexol cleaner and treated it with Gyeon Leather. The Gyeon stuff is a nano coating for leather and works very well.

Can you tell us more about the new daily driver Jeep? looks terrific! I've been thinking about getting one of those soon...is the V6 Ok or go with the V8? any gripes?
Thanks Robert

I love it. Its a V6 but loaded other than that. Decent power, great mileage and very comfortable. Its a jeep so Im sure it will have issues someday but for now I love it.

Very nice!

One product you might want to check out: S100

It's an "all over" motorcycle cleaner that is pretty much safe on everything. I use it to clean under the hood as it degreases very well, yet won't damage paint, rubber, etc.

P.S. It also makes the best shower cleaner! The stuff is amazing, just spray, agitate it a bit, then hose it down. Bye-bye soap scum, etc. (I sound like one of those infomercials--egad!). Anyway, great stuff. Been using it for over 30 years.

Couple of small things happened in the garage last night. I got a new, and fairly expensive drying towel and I was just tossing it on the table to dry out after working on a car so I got a little towel bar. Its a command strip set up so not permanent and I can easily find new adhesive for it.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Then I worked on my coolest(pun intended) project yet.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

It was getting unbearable in the shop the last few weeks, so I finally pulled the trigger. It doesn't quite fit right so I need to do some modifications and I need to find somewhere else to plug the air compressor in but it really cooled it off overnight. I cant wait to get home and see how it worked throughout the day

Everything has been ok, just very busy. I went to work EAA Airventure in Wisconsin for 12 days, and it was hard to get back in the swing of things the week I returned. I did manage to clean up the M3 a little and try a couple new products out. I used Solution Finish to restore the trim, gyeon trim to protect it, and sealed and waxed it will jescar powerlock and collinite 845. This may be the best this car has looked.

This last weekend, I helped my wife run her first estate sale and fell in love with the house. It was amazing, I couldnt pass up a chance for a period correct shot with the 02.

IMG_6053 by mpower5266, on Flickr

Then last night I borrowed my moms car to clean it up for her, I really want to sell the Jeep and pick up a Bmw wagon.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

While I was washing it, a couple of buddies stopped by to help. And by help I mean watch me work and drink my beer. But it was a good time so I cant complain. And yes, my buddy drives the ranger in the neighborhood and no its not street legal. Haha

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Thats about it, for the last few weeks. I have started to compound and polish the 02 for a show in Sept but I need to try a different compound since Im not getting the results I am looking for.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

We are also getting rolling on my dads shop and should start on the floors this or next week. He ordered Armorpoxy similar to mine, but with different flecks.

Busy is good, just don't forget to smell the roses! Thought you were going to say you both fell in love with the estate home, but realized you'll probably not want to leave the new shop.

Sent from my LG-H918 using The Garage Journal mobile app

It would have been a total gut job and I would have to build a detached shop. That being said I was ready to list our house..... the wife not so much. :lol_hitti

It had a carport with a utility closet that I had grand plans for.... I wanted to put my pressure washer and water hook up in the closet, install a drain and glass in the carport, and mount a pressure washer boom on ceiling.

I loved the house, but I cant buy everything I love....

Anyway, I finished polishing and sealing the 02 last night. Its Hofmeister approved, he booped it with his nose and everything.

I wanted to get a little more aggressive with the compound and try to get some scratches out but there are some rust and paint adhesion issues coming to a head so this is the best its going to get. Ill put some collinite on it tonight and be done with it but a total respray is in its future.

Didnt do too much at in my garage this weekend, I did pull the cars out and swept and mopped but thats about it. I did however strap these bad boys on for hopefully the last time.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

I helped my dad coat the floor in his new shop.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Its going to be so nice working on cars in there. It was 90 degrees and between the fan and the giant ac unit we had it down to 72 in there while working. I believe he is going to order the lift this week too..

Going to the north Georgia mountains this weekend and spending Saturday enjoying the awesome roads up there. I want to get some gopro footage but I had the way this mount makes my car look when its installed.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

I got a spare piece of trim and drilled a hole. I cleaned the hole up a little after this photo so it doesnt look as bad.

Untitled by mpower5266, on Flickr

Much better, now my car wont look so back if Killboy happens to get a pic of it.
