Yea I'm all over the place. :lol_hitti

My dad sent some pics of what he worked on today. He started by cleaning the clock in the e9 as shown in the video below.

We plan on going through all the instruments before putting them back in.

My dad also assembled a few more of the panels.

I have to find some trim bits, and I didnt notice the door handles were wrong(the should be tan) but its really coming together.

Good man, really good. Just cruising around GJ looking for a few ideas before I finish my new space when I popped across your thread. Looks like you have made excellent use of your space down there!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Oh nice, do you have a thread for the new place? If not, Im planning a trip to Nashville in the next month or so. Id love to check it out.

I cleaned some more of the E9 interior parts up last night. It doesnt really show in the photos but they were pretty dirty. They are now clean and very soft, they don't make leather like this anymore, its so nice when its right.

Dirty.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Cleaned up.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Both sides. Its hard to see but they way the rear window switches are mounted in these are pretty cool. Bonus dog **** shot.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And then I cleaned up the center piece that mounts between the rear buckets. Here is the dirty shot.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And clean soft leather.. I think one of the panels on this has been replaced, the color seems off. I am going to order a colourlock (or similar) kit for this car when its gets to the final detailing stage.

Glad to see they finally got the color right. Results make me want to order for my E92. 7 years of DD had worn away some of the color on the entry side bolsters.

Is there a thread on here or somewhere that goes over the process of repairing/restaining/Dying of Leather seats? My sons new to him Golf has some really worn leather seats in it and I would like to attempt a repair rather than a replace..

I can take pictures, and share them but I would hate to show something so ugly in the middle of such a beautiful thread :)

Thanks!

I don't know of a thread, and I am far from an expert but I can try to help. Post away.

I installed my Lux V7 angel eyes and whiter fog light bulbs in the wagon last night. It was fairly simple, I just had to remove 12 fasteners, the wheels, and the fender wells. :lol_hitti They are much brighter but more importantly not yellow.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

They arent really that blue, they were just messing with my camera a bit.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Also an e9 update.

Cleaned up the speedo, tested the lighting with the stock 2w bulbs.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And then swapped the bulbs for 4w ones.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Now we have to do the rest.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Test fit in the bezel.

Here are some gratuitous wood pics just because.

Thanks again for the great thread, it's one of my favorite reads.

Do you mind sharing your thought process on buying the E91? I think my wife will be ready for a new daily in the spring and I'm curious as to why you bought a 2007 and didn't get something newer (although, looking at your stable, it might be self explanatory). I thought you talked about it somewhere in the thread but I couldn't find any other information.

I'd greatly appreciate your insight into buying a 3 series.

Thanks!

I honestly didn't put a ton of thought into it, I had a itch for a wagon and I was bored with my Jeep. I love e34 and e39 wagons but they are getting a little long in the tooth for a daily, same for the e46 wagons. I looked at the e61 wagons briefly but unless heavily modified they are kinda ugly. So that left F31's and E91's and I looked at both but decided it might be more fun to pay cash for a car and have money to play around with mods so I decided on the e91. I then set out to find the best car for the money. Ideally I wanted a non-nav 6 speed LCI M sport but who doesn't? There were a few 6 speed LCI cars that ticked all the boxes for me but they had some miles and the 6 speed tax made them a little pricey. This 07 popped up and while its an auto and pre-lci it had everything else I wanted and only 75K miles with a clean history. It spent its whole life near the Bmw plant in South Carolina so I think it was owned by a BMW employee. E9x cars do have some known issues but having a lift now and experience with BMWs its not that big of a deal to just handle it on my own. If you are not a DIYer, I would look for a CPO F31 with warranty and look to replace it when that warranty runs out.

Speaking of the wagon... I gave it a much needed oil change since I have no idea what garbage oil the dealership I bought it from put in it.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

It just needs a bath and it will be ready for Ofest this weekend.

We also finished up some the gauges for the e9.

Thanks for the info. Our youngest car is a 2005 E60, which I absolutely love, but it's a bigger car and not ideal for my wife's city commute. Something smaller and a bit younger would be nice, so an E90/91 or F30/31 fits the bill. I'll have to see what the local market has on offer.

Just got back from a long weekend at the Bmw CCA Oktoberfest and it was a blast. I somehow weaseled my way into half day on Thursday but we couldn't add a day to our room in Greenville so we got a room in Clemson. As soon as we hit town we checked into our room and hit the bars. As always, the night ended at the Esso club.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Friday morning, we got up early and headed over to the BMW CCA Foundation museum where I found this for sale in the gift shop. I have been trying to find this for years......

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

After that we ran back into Greenville to grab lunch. Last time I was in town some friends took me to Henry's Smokehouse and we had to go back. I highly recommend it if you are in the area.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

After lunch it was back to Greer SC to the Bmw Performance center to check out some cars and watch some laps. This is the car we parked next to in the parking lot, I knew this was going to be fun.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

The next car I saw was this....

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I took a bunch of photos with my real camera but I didn't have time to edit them, Ill post them later. The highlight of the day was the Isetta race, click the photo below for a short video. :lol_hitti

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Then it was off to the hotel, the first spot was the beer garden to get a couple of beers and then up to the hotel room to relax.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We hit a great taco place down town and a brewery, and then just walked around downtown a little. The cars casually street parked were amazing.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

The next morning we got up early and ran to grab some breakfast near the hotel. I swear there is a chicken biscuit under all that gravy, I only ate about half of it.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Then it was off the BMW CCA office for their grand opening. The weather did not cooperate so it was kind of a mess. They also parked everyone on the lawn, and someone ran over a yellow jacket nest. The combination of the bees attacking and rain, made me rush out of the car and leave my camera. I only took 2 photos but they are pretty cool.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We sat a listened to a Hagerty insurance forum about the top 5 BMW's to invest in, I already own two, and then I talked to a few friends. The weather got pretty bad so we left early and went to YeeHaw brewing to watch the Clemson game.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We walked back to the hotel and ran out the car to grab something, and bumped into a group of guys hanging out drinking beers. They tossed us a few beers and we walked the whole parking garage to look at cars, it was pretty cool.

A very rare F31 m sport color combo.

We went to room to relax and watch more football before hitting a pretty okay pizza place and ending the night with drinks at the hotel bar. The next morning, I woke up a little sad knowing the fun was over. We did make a quick stop by the Zentrum for a photo and then headed home.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

All and all it was a very fun weekend but I wished I had gone up earlier in the week. I feel like it was all kinda winding down Saturday so we didn't experience as much as I wanted. I am already trying to figure out how to attend the event next year, which rumor has it, will be in California. My wife wants to drive out there so I need to do some work on the cars.

Maple Street biscuits were awesome. I had the one with chicken and Maple sauce.

Next year is Palm Springs in September. Not using the Oktoberfest name anymore. Announced at the dinner on Friday. You would have loved the concourse on Tuesday.

Our favorite brewery was 13 stripes in Greer. One of the scavenger hunts was around the local breweries so we hit about 8.

We skipped Saturday dinner and went local since we figured it was going to be cold and outside again and we did that for lunch T the CCA headquarters.

Great photos and write-up, Nick, thanks for sharing! Glad you guys had a good time, though, just know how incredibly jealous I was.

I just texted my wife and told her that we need to make it out next year for this. We love California, beer and food, so hoping that is enough to sway her! ;) I don't foresee an issue. Would give us an excuse to maybe spend a week and do day trips to San Diego and what not. We love SoCal!

I went to 13 stripes a few times when I stayed in Greer earlier this year for the Icon finale. I skipped both the Friday and Saturday night dinners. I heard the lines for the one Friday was nuts and the one Saturday......how can I say this nicely....... was an older crowd. That's my one complaint about the CCA, there isnt much for the younger crowd. Im only 36 and I was one of the youngest people there. I have always wanted to ship a car out west for Car week, maybe Ill do that and leave it for whatever they call Ofest next year. 4 flights and shipping both ways in a two month period might be too much though.

I really want to go and I want to take a car out. I do have a friend associated with the CCA that said I could borrow one of his cars for the events but I want to take one of mine. It would be amazing to drive the 02 out and back but I might have to take 2 weeks off work. The events are fun but you will also want to find your own things to do in between.

Yeah, that would be sweet. I'd love to drive my M3 out there, but would probably just fly and rent something local.

Funny you said that, because my wife got back to me and said she's in as long as that's not all we do. :lol_hitti I told her we'd definitely do our own thing on top of some of the CCA festivities. Like you said, there is definitely a certain crowd for these types of events. And like you, we're both 36 and don't always want to eat dinner at 5pm!!!

Hopefully they're already planning next year and details will trickle out soon.

You need to find a caravan group. Makes the drive one of the best parts of Ofest. Back roads and unwinding with beer every night.
Houston Road Monkeys were 20 cars this year. Probably too many to be really manageable best with about 6-8 cars.

We had 3 E39 M5s on the trip this year. The white M5 actually was stranded in Louisiana a few hours ago. We think it's the fuel pump and have to wait until tomorrow to have a new one shipped in from Dallas :(

Hmm I parked next to a white one with road monkey stickers on it. It even had a stuffed monkey in the passenger seat.

No, that was one of us and you saw him in the parking lot. He made trip. He started the trip back to Houston On Sunday and stopped off halfway home. He was in Louisiana this morning when it started sputtering and wouldn't start. Some of the hiccups of road tripping even when you do a bunch of preventative maintenance, things can come up.

Oh I got ya. Thats why I am little nervous about driving cross country. No matter what I check or replace, something else could let go.

I spend a little time in the garage last night cleaning up and installing the rear wiper delete on the wagon. One of the guys on the E9x forums 3d printed these little caps for his car and he was nice enough to send it to me to try out.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I just pulled the arm off and the wiper actuator assembly out and popped the cap on.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

He did a great job, it fits really tight. I did a test fit to see what it looked like on the car and to decide if I need to paint it or not and it took 10 minutes to get it back off the car. It looks much cleaner without the wiper arm and I can still open the hatch with the lever.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Ok, I'm going to save some people a post. I have all my glass sealed and I have never turned the rear wiper on in several months of ownership. I rarely even use my wipers on the front, the rain blows off once I hit about 15-20 mph. I drove the car to work today in the rain, reward visibility was fine and I arrived safe without hitting anything...... Sorry people on facebook have been losing their mind over this. Haha

I did a delete on a hatchback of mine awhile back. While I never did miss the wiper for clearing off rain or snow, it was sorely missed when there was dust/dirt on the back window. Now I just use that as an excuse to detail my car more often.

I keep glass cleaner and rag in each of my cars for that reason. I have scratches in the rear window of the wagon and the windshield of the M3 from previous owners using wipers on dirt or with bad blades. I will eventually replace both pieces of glass.

Busy weekend. Saturday we hit a couple estate sales and picked up this MONSTER of a work bench. The top, thankfully comes off but the top alone is probably 200lbs. We are going to clean it up and sell it, it would make a killer kitchen island in the right house.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I also picked up these cool old Avon/Champion cologne bottles. I actually bought 4 but I'm keeping one.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

My garage was getting really messy and disorganized so I pulled everything out I could to sweep and mop.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I moved this poster over to the wall by the pressure washer.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And put up my new poster from the most recent BMW Oktoberfest.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I also decided to move my tool box in from the basement. My wife and I are reorganizing the basement, and we may build a room down there as kind of a man cave. But the main reason for moving the box is that I usually need tools in the garage and I could certainly use the work space.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Here is the final result, clean, organized, and free of my wife's antiques for the first time in months.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

With the garage finally cleaned and organized.....I messed it back up by pulling the M3 apart. Hof's dog bed coming in handy.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

But then he wanted to hang out in the garage so I moved it to the trunk for safe storage.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Then I removed the inner sunroof card.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

About a year ago, I gave the M3 a good wash and wax and took it out for a cruise with my wife. It was a nice day so I opened the sunroof and we were greeted to a shower of yellow boogers followed by a gross yellow booger encrusted piece of fabric. I am just now getting around to re-covering the sunroof card.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

It was so nice having all my tools within arms reach, I'm really happy that I moved my box into the shop. Now I just need to get the basement looking respectable again.

Very nice progress! Please, do show what you do in the basement!

You know I will. It will likely be a pretty plan room with painted concrete floors. It may be a ways off but we are starting to plan it out slowly. I want to build my covered parking area/wash bay first.

So I'm a little embarrassed to post these pics but since the reno my basement has been getting progressively worse. My wife has been really good about keeping the antiques organized but they are taking up room I would normally use for storage of certain items. My bench and the white 02 have become kinda catch alls for ****, and my car part storage area is over flowing. Making things worse, my wife recently moved to a new booth space at an antique shop and now we need more room for inventory. Last night we decided to get started on the clean up, and that started with the work bench area.

Before.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

After an hour or so of clean up and organizing.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Up next was getting all the **** off the 02.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Hood open for the first time in probably 2 years. Haha.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

We then cleaned up everything between the 02 and wall and rolled the 02 as far out of the way as possible. This is where moving my tool box helped a ton.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I still have a lot of stuff in front of the 02 that I need to get rid of, like used oil and fluids. I can thankfully take those to the airport and dump them in their used oil tank this weekend. I also have a small metal cabinet in front of the 02 that I store paint, oil, stain, etc etc in, I need to organize that too. Its a small step but it felt really good to make some progress. I am hoping to clean up the area under the stairs and my car part area tonight.

Nice flashback seeing the basement, your bench and the white 02 again!

It's a tedious process to organize and clean up spaces like this, that serve both for work and storage purposes, but once you get going and start seeing the results, it super rewarding! (Excuse me if that didn't come out quite as I intended it, English is not my first language, and sometimes I have a hard time expressing myself, lol).

(Excuse me if that didn't come out quite as I intended it, English is not my first language, and sometimes I have a hard time expressing myself, lol).

That was written better than what I usually post. Haha. It is kinda exciting to get a section cleaned up and start to see the potential. I think I am going to paint the floors gray once I get the 02 moved out, that would go a long way to making it feel nicer.

I think my dad and I are going to actively try to sell the XJ wagoneer and the Cherokee Chief. Once the E9 is done we are going to work on the white 02 so it will likely go to my dads shop.

Not a huge amount of progress on the e9 as of late but heres a small update. We have pretty much buttoned up the headliner and realized that we forgot to locate the holes for the roof handles. So we measured the old headliner and broke out the borescope to be sure, and whew.... crisis averted.

Up next was install some more chrome bits inside and figure out what goes in this hole. I'm sure its with the rest of the rear door card parts..

The old map light lens didnt look worthy of living on this new headliner so we picked up a NOS lens.

Work continued on the front trim piece of the headliner. "Tools" had to be made to help the glue stick to the forms in this piece.

And the final product.

I also too my M3 sunroof card to the best headliner guy in the state, my dad. He has done so many headliners at this point that hes becoming an expert, he knocked this out in about 20 minutes.

And the finished product. I think the material I ordered was too thick so Im hoping it doesnt peal off when I open it.
