Funny story, the first time we ordered from this company they just sent an empty shipping tube so they are getting better.
:lol::lol: Smh...

Nice progress!
Cool to see you took care of the seatbelts, not many people think of that and for me, it's key to clean them thoroughly when deep cleaning an interior!

Another small but time consuming update.

Made vapor barriers for the rears.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And installed the rear cards.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

The time consuming part, is getting the door card, weather stripping, and metal pieces for the window sill all stacked in the right order. I think we got it right.

Here is a more detailed photo of what I am talking about.

Anyway, more to come.

Well if you enjoyed the renovation and the wash bay project......you will enjoy them for a second time. IMG_5491.jpgIMG_5461.jpg

But in all seriousness we are one of the better houses on the street and everything that actually matters is safe. My parents came and took the wagon and left their pickup. I need to go rinse it off tomorrow but it does have some light damage. My neighbor lost his garage so I'm storing this little beauty in mine.

More to come soon just waiting on insurance to show up.

Wow, Tornado's are so darn scary. We had one come thru our town back in 2011, thing traveled 40 miles and tore **** up. I was lucky and had none. Houses have insurance...I am glad you and your family are SAFE. I hope all your neighbors were as fortunate.

Glad you are safe. Buildings can be rebuilt and cars can be fixed but loved ones are irreplaceable.

Back at work and happy to be away from the house. I dont think I shared it but here is what I saw when I walked out last Friday morning.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I have met with insurance, my contactor, a tree removal specialist, and the company that put up the carport. Insurance was a little light on their first estimate, but we are working on that. The carport is a total loss, but it would have held up if our neighbors shed didn't hit it. It will be fully or mostly covered by insurance. But as of now, I am just trying to get the house livable for the kiddos. For now, a friend has given us his guest house for as long as we need, its great but its not home.

Anyway, enough of that bs. My dads shop was fine so he continued to work on the e9.

He got the back seats installed.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And the rear carpets.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Drip rails.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Installed the hazard switch, and I think a fog light switch( I was a little distracted when I talked to my dad. )

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Got the ignition reinstalled. Fahrt, hehehe.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

And finally redyed and installed the kick panels.

In process, not fully installed.

Sorry to hear about the house and carport! That *****. My in-laws just had their lake home burn to the ground from lighting fire. Nature is crazy. As others said, glad everyone is ok.

On the upside the E9 is looking beautiful!

It is amazing only one person died and that was due to a heart attack.

Nick,

I completely forgot about you being in Newnan.

Anything I can do to help? I've got a generator and other stuff should there be a need.

Let me know. I'll be happy to do what I can.

We are fine, I just need a chimney cap to make the house livable. We have power but the water heater vents out of the chimney and since my cap is gone, its covered with a tarp.

Goodness. I'm glad that you are your family are safe. The photo of your twins decked out in the shades had me laughing. The pics of your neighborhood did just the opposite.

The e9 is coming together nicely and I hope that all works out well with insurance. We just went through a small claim here due to some water damage - I can only imagine the dealing with something like this. All the best.

I tried to relax this weekend and spend time with friends and family but that really didn't happen. Saturday my parents watched the kids so my wife and I could grab lunch and try to have a normal day. I even took the Wagoneer out in an attempt enjoy the day but we just ended up back at the house trying to clean up a little. It did look kinda cool with the debris.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Sunday we did Easter lunch with my parents but I really wasnt there. I have been in my head quite a bit since the morning after the storm. After lunch I decided to finally wash the wagon to see just how bad the damage might be, it was pelted with debris.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

One last wash in the bay before it gets knocked down.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Just did a quick wash since the car is now pretty beat up (by my standards.) There is a scuff or mark on every panel, and two of the wheels are beat up. I am not sure what my plan is with the car. I know its just a daily and just a car. Things could have been way worse, but if they were I wouldn't be worried about the car. I think I am going to detail it in a few weeks and try some touch up, but I may end up selling it. I tried to snap a pic on my street but the lighting was pretty rough.

I know this was a really "sad sack" post but I am just drained. I need a carrot on a stick to keep me going, and I hope I will get one this afternoon. My contactor is going to get with us on a start date and hopefully the roofers can get a chimney cap on soon. The cap is the only thing keeping me from running the water heater and moving back in to my house. Anyways, things will get better. I just needed to vent.

Nick if you need help with anything please reach out - luckily my house was missed in all the madness. I'll be out of town tomorrow for work but if all that's holding you back is a chimney cap I'd be more than happy to whip something up out of scrap steel from around the shop tonight. A few measurements with maybe an hours work while drinking beer and you'd be move in ready with something that could be left in place indefinitely. I probably I even have some black header or grill paint we could shoot it with

Sorry for your situation, that was me in 2009. Maybe my experience can be of benefit to you ...

as much as you would like this to be a 50 yard sprint, unfortunately it is a marathon. Don't rush it, your insurance policy most likely gives you 270 days to finalize your claim. You need to take some of those days to really find out what is lost. And the law of supply and demand is kicking in big time. You need time to get the true cost of supplies to rebuild and the true cost of labor to rebuild. Be patient and use a reputable LOCAL contractor that is going to be around if you have problems with their repair. And make sure they are local, it is easy to slap some decals on a pickup and a rented local store front.

Most likely your insurance company has brought in a cat team to deal with the large number of claims, which is good because they can get the claims started quickly but before long, the adjustor is working with a 100 files and is challenged to get them closed and on to the next major storm. The policy gives you time, don't let them rush you and your policy also provides for extra expenses that you are over and above your normal expenses. Most insurance companies, in cat situations like yours, will give you an advance against your final claim settlement.

Hope this helps, best to you and your family.

Thank you for the tips and it is exactly what we did. We are using the contractor that did our addition 3 years ago. He was actually at our front door less than 12 hours after the storm to check on us. He did the walk through with us and the adjuster, we are just waiting on our estimate and start date from him. Our contractor even noted that our adjuster was the best one he has ever dealt with so I am hoping that is a good sign. We did get an advance that honestly I thought was pretty close but a little low on the carport, we just need to see what the contractor comes back with.

No insurance claim for the car damage? Obviously it's lower priority than the house, but I know it's a huge mental drain to see damage on something you work so to take care of.

I had a ridiculously clean truck that took $6k worth of hail damage in 2011. Everyone, including the body shop, tried to convince me to take the insurance money and not fix the truck since it was "just an older truck". I ignored their advice, had the truck fixed properly, and was much happier in the long run.

Ugh sorry to hear this. Don’t be too hard on yourself, take your time. It’s a tough time but just like the birth of your children, you WILL get through this. There is an “other side” to all of it.

Rumor going around town is that they are just totaling older cars and stroking checks. The car has a low bluebook but its worth probably triple that so I am not risking it.

The house is still a mess and thank you for the kind comments. I am getting ready for a big work trip, and with the house I am not really working on the car. But my dad is still knocking things out. He installed the rest of the carpet.

Installed the passenger seat.

I love the little finishing details.

And steering wheel and drivers seat in.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Its really coming together. I will probably be able to drive it when I get back from my trip. We do have a lead on brown door handles, but the black is fine for now.

Check with your agent, should not be a risk to it, you can withdraw the claim if you don't like the direction it is heading.

I was able to negotiate a payment less than total and still keep my vehicle without having to buy it back and have a salvage title. Didn't have enough money to just have someone fix it, but I did have enough to pay for the parts and painting, then did the labor myself. And I was able to keep a vehicle that I wanted to keep :)

I have a friend that has been battling his insurance company for almost 2 years over a "Totaled" 2 door 5 speed cherokee. He got backed into in a parking lot and they said, "ok its totaled, here is a check for $2500." It was a clean super low mileage version that would probably bring 10-12k on Bring a Trailer. He has refused the claim but they already told the state the car is totaled and he is having to hide the car from them. The insurance company has sent several tow trucks to get the car and he has managed to dodge them. Granted this is USAA and its in California but I am worried about something like that.

I think the damage is something I can fix at this point. I will end up buying a new wheel, but I think I can save the paint. I also have a very nice gift coming from a friend that works at a large detailing company. He felt bad about the tornado, car and wash bay so I have a care package coming.

My dad made some progress while I was out of town this weekend. We got the front bumper on the car.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

After that he installed one of the over riders. But it had an issue.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

When he tightened the over rider down, it pulled the bolt head through the metal (the one on the right.) So he added a washer and tried that, the bolt an washer pulled through this time. (on left.) We were told these were OEM BMW when we bought them but they were likely knock offs. We got our money back and ordered some from a trusted source, they should be in today.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

They looked much nicer than they actually were.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Since we are waiting on those, he went ahead and installed the rear bumper and license plate lights.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Any finally put a coat of paint on the exhaust tip. We have a chrome cover for it on the way and I need to play with the hangers to get it leveled out a little.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Not a ton left to do before we can start shaking it down. Just some little trim bits and some random seals. We should have a license plate for it this week. More to come.

As for the house. Our contractor should have a chimney cap installed this week, I am hoping we can move back in soon.

WE GOT OUR CHIMNEY CAP!!!!!!!

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

Ok sorry, I was a little excited to be back home. We have been back in the house for two nights now and those two nights I have slept great. The first night we got the kiddos in bed, and could not find our dog. He was curled up in his bed that we moved into a random corner. I guess we all missed our home. Anyway, how about some E9 updates.

Front bumper, round two.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

This time the over riders were in much better shape and the bumper went on fine.

I stopped by on the way home to drop off the plate frame and my dad just so happened to have the tag so we went ahead and installed it.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

It still needs some little trim bits and part of the dash, but since it was tagged.... Here are a couple of videos.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

My dad and I took it on quick little spins around the neighborhood until it go up to temp. It seemed to run really well and I hope to get some real time behind the wheel tomorrow.

Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr

I love the presence this car has when it rolls up, its such a good looking shape. The "build" portion of this thread might be coming to an end but I know we will have some little projects left to do. Also a ton of house projects and hopefully starting on the 944 soon.
