Hey Bud, It's been awhile since I've dropped by. You've made some progress. I'm green over the lift. I just can't justify putting a lift in a wood shop. Hmmm, maybe I need a mechanic/metal shop? With a lift? Yeah.

Can't remember if I've asked before but are your cabinet doors galvenized or painted? Looking back, about June, the pic of the diff all cleaned up. No matter that you know it'll get road grim and all on it, they look good all cleaned up.

Weather's changing about now. Glad to see that heat go. We had a bad wind storm here a couple of months back and I lost several big trees (and took me away form leisure). I, my brother, and 3 nephews worked a week and got about 1/2 of one big oak out, cut, split and stacked. Work 15 minutes, rest 45 minutes, drink 1 gallon. Whew.

Later, Dave.

Dave I hear you about the weather I have not felt like doing much at all until recently.

as far as my cabinets are concerned they are just homemade plywood boxes. I painted them with rustoleum hammered paint. that stuff is pretty durable.
I don't know how it is where you live but we have some kind of a disease or beetle or something killing off all of our evergreens. we have a bunch of them. I cut down 2 the other day and had 2 more right over my garage that I did not want to do myself so I hired a company to come in and take them out. I still have a bunch more that are dead or dying and I will have to have them taken down but most are not too close to anything important.

here is a pick of the truck up in the air. still haven't tried the 250 but it worked great so far.
IMG_0877.jpg

and on a completely different note I pretty much finished the bathroom this week. still have to caulk around the baseboard some more. I ran out of caulk. thought I had 3 tubes but 2 of them were clear.

I also still have some glue to clean off the floor then I need to polish and wax it. but the floor is down now so the last big hurdle in the bathroom is completed.

I am going to a car show this weekend so I decided to do some minor work on the mustang today. I had it up on the lift to make it easier to access some areas and snapped these pictures. I am definitely going to like this lift:thumbup:

Speaking of work, mind my askin' what you do for a living? You sure do have a lot of fancy, expensive toys and stuff. lol

Awesome shop and set up and family and cars and tools, etc. etc.

Great job

thanks for the comments guys yes it is a fun place to hang out. the building itself is just a steel building. not near as much character as a lot of guys on here but I went more for space and speed. I wanted all the square footage I could afford. and yeah I can walk under the truck when it is lifted. the sidewalls of the building are 12 foot high. I have 10 foot high doors so I can pull my trailer in if I want to. the roof is 1/12 pitch so it is probably about 13 1/2 foot high where the lift is. there was two heights possible on the lift. I could have madeit 4 inches taller but it will lift it all the way to the last lock position so that is high enough.

How did you do at the car show this weekend?

I got a second place trophy in my class. not bad. the 65 to 67 modified class is always tough and it just depends on what people like when it is a popular vote show. regardless I had a good time I got to talk to a lot of people who love mustangs and I was not on call and not working so it was a great weekend.

That's cool, congratulations. I always enjoy going to shows to talk to everyone and hang out with the folks you know. My sons car was in The Mustangs at the Queen Mary Show in Long Beach today. It's put on by the Beach City Mustang Club and I believe this was their 13th year. He placed 2nd in his class also. Last year he won best paint, which kind of surprised me that it didn't do better this year because the paint work was finished. Year before it took 1st place. Like you say when it's a popular vote, it just depends on what the group likes.

The link is here Click on QM 2010 in left column and a flyer will open up. It's a picture from last year's show, but the car is in the row facing the ship, third from end, between the red one with the shaker hood and the black one. The car now has painted stripes.

I like your stang

thanks. that looks like a silver fastback if I am looking at the right picture right? can't tell much detail but fastbacks always get a lot of attention. I always know that if there is a decent fastback in my class no matter how good my car looks I usually come in second. the fastbacks and convertibles always get more votes than the coupes. my car is a highly modified car as well and it ultimately comes down to some people like the package and some like parts of it. I nearly always have a lot of people stop and look and ask questions but I think some don't like the total package, they like modifications but not quite as drastic as extensive as mine. but I built the car for my enjoyment and it does everything I want it to.

I built a 24 x 30 foot shop...

then built a 40 x 42 foot steel building...

the bionic dawghause is 60 by 40

I think there is a pattern here, and you're a man after my own heart! My shop is 36 x 50, heated and air conditioned, with its own 200 Amp service,.

And I wish it was bigger yet!

Yep, you've got the fever!

Hello: I just found this thread and you have done great things there! I'm in late stage construction (overhead doors going in today) of a 30 X 40 X 14 Heritage steel frame building on concrete. Not as big as yours but I can't wait to start dressing it out inside. Primary use is for RV storage but I'm framing in a 20 X 15 workshop. Thanks for all the information you have shared.

I like the addition of the lift. The garage is looking great.

I bought a project car this past weekend as a project for my new garage. '68 Mustang Coupe that's been on nonop for years (tags expired Sept 95). It's been sitting for almost 16 years in a carport. It's never been in an accident, and the car is totally in tact, other than missing radio, everything is there - it's amazing. 4V 302 4 br carb, C4, PS, factory air and mileage shows < 45000 and supposedly nevery been touched (and it looks like it). Got it from the origional owners son in law. Made in San Jose, purchased in Los Angeles and never been out of Ca. It needs a total interior and paint but there is no rust anywhere. It was a lucky find and a great restoration project. I hope it looks as nice as your coupe when it's done.

thanks. yes I am enjoying the shop. I am working on a few new things now. I have been doing my annual training for the army reserves this past 2 weeks and have spent many hours deciding what I want to do next. since winter is here now I have installed a modine 50,000 btu heater in the main shop and I am going to put a small in wall heater in the bathroom. I have also bought a setup for improved nut and bolt storage. :shocking::shocking: it is an obscession. once you start on this site and start looking at other guys shops it seeps into your mind while you sleep and starts to take over lol. actually though I have gotten a lot of ideas off this site and I am glad to be able to pass on some ideas to you. best of luck to you.

sounds like a great project. post some pictures and send me a pm if you don't mind. I would love to see it. also if you have not already checked out all ford mustangs forum http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/classic-tech/ it is a great place to go for any mustang questions you might have.

thats a good way to put it. garage conscious. I think I am past that and on to the obscession part. my shop is in no way as over the top as a lot of guys on here but it consumes a huge amount of my time in both active work and planning. I was gone for my 2 week annual training for the army reserves recently and spent most of my time thinking about what I wanted to get done when I got back. I ordered a couple new items that I will be installing soon. anything that consumes this much of a guys thoughts that is not his wife/girlfriend definitely constitutes an obscession I think lol.

well I finally finished installing my modine heater. it is only a 50,000 btu heater but with the g73 in the kennel and the heater in the bathroom I am hoping it will be adequate. we will have to see. I still have my little dragon torpedo heater for those really cold days.

get-attach2px.jpg

I have also been "jonesing" on those guys with the awesome nut and bolt storage solutions so I started my own. I bought this section to start with to see how it will work. I plan to get 2 more sections once these are full to store other sizes of bolts. I currently have sorted my misc. bolts into 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, and 1/2 inch bolts, nuts, washers. that leaves me 3 bins to sort each size of bolts into so I will have to get some dividers to sort the bolt lengths better but at least now if I want a 5/16 bolt and nut I can just grab them rather than rummage around in a can that has a mix of everything.
I haven't got them labeled yet either but hey its progress

Actually I was working on creating a journal today, outlining the activity and progress. I'll match it up with the photos and get it posted up in the next few days. It is taking time because I let it get out of control.

The short version is that it is either not a low mileage car or they never did any maintenance. I'm thinking it was the later. The engine builder should have it finished next week. Tomorrow I'm ordering a **** load of stuff from MustangsUnlimited. It will be nice putting stuff on a car instead of taking it off and cleaning it. The entire underside is cleaned, primed and painted - so is the engine bay, inside rear fenders. Front sheet metal and wheel wells are next. Found a couple of rust spots that I cut out and repaired - drivers side apron and under the battery tray. ****** is also getting redone. Haven't decided on a color yet, going with the black comfortweave interior form TMI, new everything on the interior.

Just so you know, there is a place called mustangs plus out of stockton california. they have some of the best mustang products and best service of any of the big vendors. My friend Ron Bramlett and his brother Dave and there families own it. they are true blue mustang fanatics. if you ever have a chance you should swing by there place. they also have 2 mustang shows a year in april and october. I do not know exactly where you live but it can't be too far from stockton. at least not as far as utah or iowa lol. anyway I drove out there a couple times to show my car and it is really an impressive setup. I really can't say enough about Ron and Dave either, truly good people. I would rather pay more to buy stuff from them than from places like National parts depot where you are just a number. I do look forward to seeing your progress. I think over christmas I am going to build the engine for my daughters 67 mustang.

Great garage, very well done. A couple of questions:
1) What is the toilet paper holder, a car door handle or...?
2) What motor is going in the 67?
3) When using the table saw, are the wheels engaged? How do you "drop it" So it doesn't walk on ya?
4) I respect the no comment on "What do you do for a living?" Was that intentional or did you miss the question? You've mentioned being on-call, so my interest was piqued.

Thank you for serving with us in the USAR. I too am a member here in Kansas. Also, you mentioned your wife and family (dogs too) and we saw pictures in the magazine spread, they deserve alot of kudos for supporting you and your "garage-a-holic" addiction. Seems they enjoy the car shows, hobbies etc. that Dad participates in. It's great to see such family support!
Again, great job with the garage, cars and family!

thanks chuck. to answer your questions.
1. the tp holder is fabricated from pipe. got the idea from a guy on here. here is the link to his thread. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61911

2. the 67 is getting a 5.0 that I got out of an 89 mustang with the AOD Transmission. I do plan to run a demon carburetor initially but I may fuel inject it some day. I will save all of the fuel injection stuff for it.

3. the table saw came with the rollers on it like that from sears. they have a cam lever that locks them down in place to roll it and you just lift up on the lever with your foot and it drops down on rubber feet. very handy.

4. as far as the what do I do for a living. I usually choose not to talk about it. people get the wrong idea. I am a small town general surgeon. and I do spend a lot of time on call.

as for the USAR. I have been in for a long time but I did send in my walking papers recently. It has been 24 years and my wife is tired of it lol.
My family is of course the most important thing in my life. they are wonderful, and yes my wife especially deserves a lot of credit for being able to put up with my addictions.

thanks for your interest and your service.

I am aware of Mustangs Plus, they are north of us in Stockton. Our club usually has about 8-12 cars in their shows, we have shown my son's '06 GT there a few times. One of our club members family live there and we all stay that their house the night before and have a good time for the weekend. The recent one was a Mach 1 theme and they got a good turn out. They do indeed have a nice operation. I don't know personally know them but have talked to them many times and they do seem like nice folks. Next time I talk to them I'll send your regards. To be honest, I went to where I did based on the price they gave me for a large order and no sales tax on top of a good deal (on essentially the same parts that they both sell).
This other place also has excellent customer service and good people working there that know their stuff.

oh yes I have used mustangs unlimited many times as well. I actually prefer their catalog. and I certainly don't dispute the idea of getting a lower price. I still shop around and by some stuff from other places but if you get a chance to talk to the bramletts they are a great group of people. the first time I went out there for a show. my truck blew the egr tube off the header. I did not know who to talk to so I called Ron at Mustangs plus. I had met him once before but really didn't know him. he got me in touch with a local ford dealer who checked it out, they did not have the parts to fix it because I had after market headers on it. so one of Ron's employees, I am ashamed to admit I can't remember his name, took my truck around to there restomod shop and put it up on the lift, welded up the egr tube well enough for me to get back home. I tried to pay them but they refused. there are several other stories I could tell, but suffice it to say they are just genuinely good people, the kind of people I like to do business with.

anyway keep posting pictures on your progress I love following along. I am about to order the total control rack and pinion steering for my daughters 67 mustang. not too much fun for a christmas present for a 12 year old, but I will enjoy it lol.

actually the cougar was already dead and parted out. I got it at a junk yard, it was all by itself. no car attached. think of it as an organ donor from someone who died in an accident. at least part of that old cougar gets to live on inside the mustang.

Well said.My '29 Model A Roadster Pick-Up is slowly coming back to life,thanks to a poor old,dead '65 Mustang!(289,T10,8in rear)

Fantastic shop, cool cars and dogs.Doesn't get much better than that!
Great job.

Thanks! It'll take a while though, due in no small part to the weather. We've had 12 inches of snow in the last couple of days and looks like it's going to get a lot worse.

man I don't envy you. we have had a really dry fall thus far knock on wood. no snow yet. last year it snowed on halloween and we had over a foot on christmas I seriously hope this year is better. I had to hire a guy with a skidloader to move the snow so I could get out of my shop my poor little fourwheeler with the snow blade was no match. lol. I had to walk the mile down to the main road twice because they had not plowed our road yet. the state patrol had to pick me up and take me to work. I am planning on buying a skid loader next year with luck.

I had to do some electrical troubleshooting on the mustang last weekend and so I got it out and drove it a bit. then decided to detail it up before storing it for the winter. The lift makes it so nice to detail I know I am getting lazy but it is awesome to put the thing on the lift, lift it up to where it is easy to get at to polish up the wheels and clean the tires. lube the chassis etc. the arms even make a nice step to facilitate washing the windows. who would have thought I would use it for stuff like that. but like the old saying goes when you have a hammer everything looks like a nail. here are some pics.

and here is a picture of my christmas present from my wife. I had not planned to buy this until next year. Thanks Honey. just in time too it is snowing like crazy out there right now. the wind is blowing so hard I will easily have 3 foot drifts in my drive in the morning. I guess the loader will get a workout tomorrow.

I could've used the loader here this week.Just spent three days digging us out!:bounce:

that does not sound like a bit of fun. and I suppose that puts the garage renovation on the backburner as well eh.

as for the loader I gave it a workout this morning. now I have used a skidsteer quite a bit over the years but this was my first time moving snow with it... I definitely will need some practice lol. It is not at all the same as plowing with a blade. I think that I would like to have a blade for the loader also, but I suppose what I will do is use the loader for some things and the four wheeler for others. I can say it made moving the snow a lot of fun.
