The much touted, highly regarded, Festool fighter, belt sander replacer,

Bosch 1250DEVS 6" dual action (orbital and "turbo" ie holysh*t) sander is on rare sale.

I believe this may be because theY have 2 new versions of this coming out. But, this is a built in Germany, proven performer. You can see from my screen grab that i bought this model is 2016, have used and abused. It makes sanding almost a fun thing, almost.

Material removal is incredible in "turbo" mode, and the control and dust collection is a huge leap over anything but Festool (which honestly is almost equal to).

Anyways, $186 as of this posting. Worth every dollar IMO.

I agree, that is a great sander. I paid $186 for mine back in 2006 from Amazon and it is still going strong, never let me down. I see HomeDepot still has it at the regular price of $266, just for reference

Well that does it, just ordered another one (backup) for nearly -$100 off the regular price.

Not sure where the new one is made, but if this is the last gen German made version i'll take two.

update:
Bosch responded to my query on COO of the new replacement- Hungary.

The 1250DEVS is the benchmark for professional sanders (tied w/ the $500 Festool).

if you open the 360* photo and zoom in on the label, it does indeed say "Made in Germany", bottom right, under the serial number.

Geez, my Porter Cable is starting to act up, but I have a ton of 5" / 8 hole discs.

You can buy 5" backer pads for this sander.

Also, you will love the dust collection if used with Mirka Abranet. Its a mesh style abrasive that is superior to anything else. Easy to clean and reuse, excellent dust collection, much much longer life. Comes in both 5/6"
-----

I just got a response from Bosch saying the new replacement model is made in Hungary if that persuades anyone to buy now.

Has anyone used this for polishing? I could justify if it could double as a car buffer and other polishing tasks, particularly if it would perform as well or better than the oft OEM’d porter cable.

Thanks for the tip on the Mirka products. I knew I had seen that name floating around on a few threads here.

Thanks for the tip on the Mirka stuff as well. This will be extra useful for me because of my basement shop with limited ventilation (I do have an air circulator/filter but every bit helps). I have the ROS showing up today from this deal. :D

Happy this was well received! Got mine today, everything looks great.

Abranet mesh abrasives+ and shopvac+ and 1250DEVS = 95% dust reduction in my experience.

Just an FYI, if anyone is wanting to buy the Mirka abrasives/backers/etc., you can get them 20% off on Zoro right now - picked up a few of the variety packs and the backers as well, along with some other misc. stuff I 'needed'.

So my sander arrived today. Open the shipping box to find a beat up Bosch box inside. On that box, is an RMA label from someone that returned the unit to Amazon in September. Not a happy camper! Got onto Amazon and they are making it right and gave me a $10 credit so got an even better deal. But beware for those of you that purchased.
Cheers.

I ordered mine Friday and got it on Saturday. Took it out and played with it today. This is a really nice tool! I have to prep the car in my avatar for paint in about a month. I'll also use it to polish and wax my daily drivers before the snow flies. Timing couldn't have been better on this deal.

Thanks, Tarbellb.

Same story with my boss whom I convinced to by both the sander and JS572. Open box and sawdust inside with obvious signs off use.

Yep, sold by Amazon themselves.

I wonder if it is a regional thing.

I buy a lot, and I mean a lot of stuff from Amazon and even Amazon Warehouse. Everything sold from Amazon has been brand spanking new and my order history with them goes back to 1999!

Even the stuff from Amazon Warehouse appears to be brand new. (I usually go for 'package damage' type items) Just bought a computer from the Warehouse (saved almost $800 versus the current 'new' price) and it looked brand new - factory seals on the case, etc
