Seriously...should have some pics of the downstairs by now, right? Walls framed up? Electric/plumbing?

Very nice build Utah!

I'm a member of all three internet fora that you have posted in... CF, AVS, and here and have really enjoyed seeing this build as my wife and I have something very similar planned. The underground portion will be smaller (40' x 20'), but the upper garage will be a bit larger (40' x 32').

It's great to see everything working out as planned and it's certainly motivation for me to get my own project started.

Regards,

Stan

Great job and design. What brand and how many subwoofers are you going to have installed?

My son and I have our own subwoofer company designed for the ultimate in tightness of bass and very large output as well. I have 4- 15" subwoofers in my main room with 3200 watts on them.

I really like how you built the garage (first picture) so that the mountain in the back would form the peak of the roof....you've planned everything! Great space! Nice work!

I love it.

The only mistake you made is putting a gym in there. I'd spend all my time wrenching and watching movies...no time for working out.

Looks awesome, my only concern would be the insulation in the basement. I thought the guidelines were to install NO vapor barrier in the basement wall. See links below (it appears that batts on basement walls breed mold unless there is insulation on the exterior or in the middle of the concrete foundation):

Just trying to look out for you so you don't have mold issues later,
best of luck finishing and I understand the gym (1/2 of my basement is one right now)

Well, this pretty much took care of most of my afternoon. Once I started reading about the "Bunker" build, I couldn't stop. I was blown away by the scope and uniqueness of it. I have an 11 stall attached garage that is a constant work in progress so I enjoy seeing other people's ideas.
A question I have is, where will you put all of the snow this Winter? It appears that you have a distance to go to relocate it.
What a wonderfull job you have done this far. You are really moving along which,I'm sure is fine with you, will make the Winter months much better to take in Utah.
Great Job!

This is an amazing project...I saw this thread as a link on another board and is the reason why I joined garage journal:)

If that was here in BC,there would be a lot of electrical hookups in the bunker, and it would pay for itself in about 8 weeks,or one "crop".LOL Cool build, thanks for sharing it.:scared::bowdown:

Utah...SNOW BLOWS!
Damn, I stumbled on this thread about 30 minutes before I left work yesterday...made it though 3 pages, bookmarked it & have just spent an hour & a half reading the rest today.
THIS IS COOL!!!:willy_nil

I'd love to do this same thing, with one minor change. Being a car guy, I'd have to make the lower area a storage spot for cars. I'd put a big car-sized table just inside the door at the front, mounted a hydraulic ram to lower the table down to the bunker.

Even better that that would be to have the bunker about 6,000 sq feet, with a one car garage up top. You drive in with one car & drive out with another, repeating...all week long!:lol_hitti

OK, since WHEN is stealing my ideas allowed..

Utah, your build is just so insane, that everybody HAS to love it..
too bad that the workers know about it, hope you have one of those flashy-things from the MIB-movies, so you can make them forget :)

I also see that you have hidden the stair on the garage-level a little bit. are you going to hide it completely, behind a shelf or something?

This is very cool. That will be a great home theater room. Play your movies as loud as you can stand with that natural sound barrier all around it.

 I gotta say this is one of the cleverest building plans I've ever seen. What a great use of available space.
I had similar issues last year when I wanted to add on to my garage. Being a bi-level made it challenging. I had wanted to go out the side with another 2 bays, but my neighbor was reluctant to sell a few feet of his 3 acre yard between us. So I ended up just going out the front 34' and putting the new garage, half in the ground, like the rest of the house. It sure changed to look of the house, but worked out okay.
But I digress: Keep us posted with pictures of your build. I gotta see this thru!

Later, Phil

Wow, this is absolutely ingenious. I love it. Only things I'd have to critique is the fact that you spent all that money on those heavy steel beams and then turned around and covered them up with friggin drywall!! lol. I love exposed structure.

The other thing is that your driveway will most likely crack along the edges of the exposed tunnel roof. Hopefully your concrete guy had enough sense to layout his control cuts based off of those two wall lines.
