OK this is a crazy/awesome undertaking!! I'm guessing you didn't go 'up' due to height restrictions? What do the neighbours think? Would you tell us where this is (general local), great view! And the most pertinent questions - what do you do and what kind of cars do you have??!!!

Very nice job. Our property is like a pizza slice if you were to slice it into quarters, so the property line comes in at an angle to our house. I have sketched out a couple plans for a 26x32 detatched garage with the garage parallel to the property line but didn't know if I should put a breeze way to the main house. My brother-in-law, who is in commercial construction, suggested I put in a tunnel to the main house's basment. I laughed and thought about your project. I don't think I would go into a downstairs like you did, but I'd definitely like to look into connecting the two via an underground tunnel.

Congrats on the progress and best of luck in 2008.

I'm going to use my first post here to say DAAAAAAAAMN!!!!! :wtf:

I was led here when I proposed building something very similar, only it would be an extension of the basement underneath the garage, and done during construction of the house.

The build is unreal, Utah, and I'm insanely jealous of the view, too! :(

Now I don't seem like such a crackpot when explaining how to put a basement under a new garage! Thanks.
Coming soon new garage with basement...no tunnel though.

Well, for whatever reason, you deleted everything. I won't go into why you did it. Lets just say I am sad that I will not be able to see the completed project. It was one of the reasons I signed up here. (I heard about it from another forum member.)

What happened? This was probably one of the coolest builds ever and then it's just gone. Utah, what did we do or say to have this amazing thread taken away?

This was kind of like taking away food after one bite.

But there must a a good reason. Sorry I can't see the end to the story.

The impetus for the change was in another thread that has since been deleted.

I will let Utah answer the questions as to why.

Yes, I too am sad to see it go. Maybe that will change someday.

IIRC, this thread got more views in a couple months than most (if not all) other build threads have in a couple years.

Good luck, Utah. Hope you stay around!

That stinks. I was hoping to show this incredible build to some friends of mine to show them that what I am doing to my garage is nothing. i hope that Utah comes back or at least lets us all know why he left.

I'll second up on this...
I know it was some type of privacy/security type issue. As somebody who was robbed THREE times in less than 30 days, I certainly understand his concern.

Weather folks realize it or not we ALL put a lot of trust in others by posting up here. I hope a few bad apples don't ruin it for the rest of us.

Utah, if you're out there and still listening... We'd love to have you back on any terms, please come back by when you have a chance.

Yes, unfortunately it isn't even the ones that we see that can be the problem (such as the person called out). There are probably thousands of people viewing this site that never bother to register, much less post a single word...

There is a false sense of security because you judge the board by the people that do post here and we all seem like a fairly reputable bunch. But we're really holding our "club meeting" in a glass building with the freeway passing by outside and everyone driving past can watch us...

I didn't see the other thread so I'm curious what happened. If a member violated the rules, have they been banned, either temporarily or permanently?

***** that one person can ruin the board for everyone.

Good luck with the rest of the build Utah. I agree with your decision to remove all of the details from the board if the safety and security of your home and family was somehow compromised here. You can never be too cautious in that type of situation. It was good while it lasted.

from what I can gather it sounds like some pretty legit concerns. ***** there are pricks in the world, but hey Utah, thanks for giving me something to dream about. Good luck with the rest of the project.

Cheers

Utah -

While I missed the thread about the removal, if it was due to safety/security concerns, I like others totally support your removal.

That being said, thank you for sharing your build with us! That is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time, and I've showed it to countless people. Good luck with the rest of your build, and please come back to tell us how it's going! Even if you can't/won't post pictures, I'm sure there's lots of us still interested to hear about your progress!

Thanks for the support guys.

I'm a pretty trusting guy and am excited about my project as well as following other projects on the board here. I just had some issues come up with people trying to nail down exactly where I live, wanting too much detail as to what I was putting inside, downstairs, type of security system etc....(made me very nervous)

I would like to thank the board for all the great ideas I recieved (many of which I implemented on my build)

Give me a couple weeks and I'll see about posting up some of the pics again..

Utah,
Just wanted to thank you for sharing with us your truly spectacular build. Though we are all interested in the final result, your security concerns trump all of our curiosity. I wish you all the luck in the world and thanks for having shared with us. If and when you do choose to post a final pictorial, don't forget to include the pics of the Rottweilers and the assault weapons which you plan on keeping in there :rocketwho:rocketwho:uzi::uzi::yikes:
