Guys.. I think it's time to redo the interior of the garage.

Looking for ideas for flooring.. right now I have just boring grey epoxy with flecks.

Also, I want to change up the walls, I'm thinking of doing a brick interior. I'm assuming that you could find faux brick (like 1/4 inch brick facing) or something similar. Has anyone done this? Advice?

Thanks...

Yours is the first build I found... led me to the wonderful world GJ. :) Love to see your updates, too.

I've had skilled mortar guys apply "cut brick" on block walls; it looks like real brick for a lot less.

They cover the whole wall with mortar (or parts if you only want some), let it dry, then come back, put about ½" of mortar back over it, and then stain it to the color(s) you want. (I had them do a random old south style of stain, with slightly different colors mixed across the wall.) FYI, just like real brick... if you seal this, it cleans fairly well; if you don't seal, it, it doesn't. One nice part of cut brick rather than brick facing was being able to scrub off deep stains and then re-color a small section of wall.

If you go look at Mark's Monster Garage, he's used brick facing both inside his house and outside in his garage. I'm sure he'd let you know what he thought of it. (Not sure, but he may've used cut brick too.)

_______
Edit:

Forgot how long his build was. They built the garage first, then lived in it for a few years as they built the house. (So you may want to click here & "View All" instead, then just scroll down & look thru his pics.)

Here's one pic of how he's using some of his "leftovers" out in the garage. Later they came back and mortared up to the edges to make it look like the stucco was aged & falling off.

Very cool! I want to do the entire thing in brick. I'll have to check around on the "cut brick" and see if there is anyone around here that does that.

Thanks!

I'm keen on seeing the bookcase and what you decided to do regarding the flooring and walls (if you re-did it). Acid stained concrete looks good, or porcelain tiles.

I showed your thread to my wife, she said "No way in hell". Then I showed her the modest plans I wanted for my garage. "Yeah! okay! That's more like it!". LOL!! Thanks dude! You were a HUGE help in me getting what I wanted!

This was my exact approach as well. Suddenly my plans seemed reasonable and cost effective.

Just wanted to say I forgot how awesome this build is. I just finished going back through the entire thing. It certainly is one of the more unique projects. Look forward to weeing how the interior walls turn out.

Great work, and thank you for sharing.

Just read through most of this thread, and this is absolutely spectatular! Very jealous, and I'm still young, but hopefully one day I can get somewhat close to being able to do this in my life.

One of, if not the coolest builds on here.

Thanks Jeepster. It was a fun project. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm glad I didn't know how hard it was going to be, or I never would have done it. :bounce:

Reminds me of something a very elderly former neighbor once said to me. I'd just moved into a new house about 18 years ago & was reading up on what to plant. One thing we'd thought about was blueberries, but the book said they wouldn't grow here in the desert.
Talking to the old guy next door one day & he points out two rows of blueberries growing in his yard.

Conversation:

Me: Oh, wanted to grow those, but the book said they wouldn't grow here.

Neighbor: I didn't read that book.

Yeah, any chance for some updated photos? This was one of my favorite builds on here. Does the bookshelf doorway still work?

I'll see that I can do. Not much has changed. Yup.. bookshelf door is still operational. :)

Since I don't have updated pictures today, how about this? Here's a picture of the latest garage addition. A flamethrower!

It just got her yesterday, my daughter wanted to try it on for size. :bounce:

Crazy man what are the plans for that thing. My volunteer fire dept would flip out if somebody in town had one of them.

Totally legal (unless you live in Maryland or Cali)

Everyone that has seen it is like "is that legal?"

Yup.

I was just wondering what you'd use it for besides nighttime crazyness. Legality who cares....I have some brush piles I could smoke with that thing.
