Wow my carport is weak. Maybe it'll be better when I put the matching copper roof on at least.

It is the best way to have usable space to work outside and also have car protection during the week for your "driver". I also a 10' garage door that provides access into garage and also allows space to roll work in and out when needed. It also helps provide good airflow during the summer!

Thanks

this was always a favorite of mine

That looks like a repurposed old picnic table cover from a interstate highway reststop from the 1960s... I remember many a time stopping and eating at these as a child in our Dodge Traveco Motorhome.

I was told Frank L. Wright told a client he would not build a garage to go with the house, just a carport. He said" if I build a garage you will just fill it with junk and still end up parking your car outside". Sounds like he saw me coming.

I built this carport last year with the help of my dad. I built it to park under during the winter months and to serve as an outdoor living space during the rest of the year. We moved the vehicles out yesterday and moved the furniture back in. TV will be moved back out as well.

Last night.....

Coal Man, the first picture doesn't do justice to your space. Very nice finish to it, I didn't notice the ceiling fan first take. :)

Wow, that top right one is absolutely what I am looking for. Beautiful. I was able to track it down to a company in Australia. They do some amazing work.

http://www.lyrebird.com.au/carports_&_patios.html

I've contacted sales to see if they sell in the US. Stay tuned...

The file name of the phot in the first post has "Maine" and "Menards" in it so I gather you can probably get that kit over there. It looks more like an American design, can't say I've seen a lot like that here.

I noticed the same thing and started my search at Menards. No luck tho. No response from lyrebird either

Is it possible to get an erection from looking at a house? :hitit:

Possibly...

We had a great carport at our lake house in MI growing up, I'll have to see if I can find any old pics of it. I have two car ports at my house now, one on the side of the attached garage, and one on the side of my barn. Neither are worth posting in this thread.

Bumping this up. GREAT thread!

There is going to be a carport in my near future. I have two project cars sitting outside in the elements that NEED to get shelter that I can't provide until the garage is done, which is at least a year away. Tarps aren't helping and I'm sick of buying them. Paying for storage seems like a waste when I could put that money towards a carport.

This thread is right up my alley! When I mentioned to my wife, "we need a carport" she said, "no way! Those are ugly!" Now she's warming up to the idea and doing exactly what coal_man did is what we have in mind.

I would really like to see some more pictures. We're thinking something like this that we could repurpose later as an outdoor living area...

(sorry for the small pic)

Glad to see this thread is still alive. I love carports, somehow, despite the years I spent working under one in the snow and rain at my parents house growing up.

I was trying to figure out what to do with my big concrete patio that is right next to the detached garage behind the house I just bought, and I think a carport would be awesome. Now I just need someone to find me a way to get it done cheap and have it look like its expensive haha.

Going to bump this back up. Since I last looked at this thread, plans to build one changed to several different free-standing shop builds and even an addition to my current garage. All of that has changed and despite selling one of my projects, I inherited two others and will have to sell two others. However, with all that has happened with this Pandemic, we have been forced to change directions and look at just getting some nice and neat coverage for two projects that looks legit.

Anyone built a carport since Ryan started this thread they would like to share? I could use some new inspiration for nicely finished carports. Some great examples here already.

The wife and I wanted to park the daily drivers in a carport not a garage, so I built my shop with an ample one out front.

This picture was taken while we had some disruption to our normal routine. We had our driveway paved that day. Normally there is just my wife's car and my work truck in there.

The house i grew up in as a child had a carport with some enclosed storage, sadly though no pictures. I am going to build a single car carport to put my third vehicle under soon I hope.

Years ago I bought a carport to put my old car in because it was at my parents house and they were moving out. I bought the frame online and purchased the metal locally.

The second picture is what it looks like today. I received some garage doors for free and cut them down to fit.

My Navy housing in Honolulu had a carport in front of the house, open on all four sides and 30 feet from the house; it was not good for anything but it was a place to park 1 car.
