are you having a good summer weather-wise? we used to come up every year in august to visit friends and see the race at Watkins glen. friends lived in corning and chatauqua. I imagine you must be near there. the coop is looking so very nice. did you solve your large door problem?

The weather has been cool and very wet. (Not complaining with the heat in Houston...) as for the large door problems, I'm going to build my own oversized hinges in hope of solving the door sag. Now I just need to find the time...

Finally making some progress with the antique barn wood trim work - along with more tongue and groove walls. Now it's fun moving tools around and trying to get a feel for the work space. I hope to construct some work benches this winter.

I have to give a shout out to my builders wife, she hand polished every fitting and pipe then sprayed with lacquer to maintain the shine. Thanks, Wendy!

Check your plumbing hardware closely - I had a metal pex connector fail last week on a main water line drenching my closet (which houses my A/V rack) costing close to $3,500 in damage!

Back in build mode again now that winter is gone. Thought I would add a few pictures of the man cave bar we added.

Also installed t&g siding along the high bay - and added antique board and batten siding to the gables in the high bay.

This fall/winter projects: install antique barn wood flooring to the loft - cabinets installed around the loft (for hiding all the clutter) with built in wine fridge and a/v rack for movie theater - loft rough in electric - and finally the biggest boo-boo of the build, not installing t&g wood ceiling under roof. So now we will cut each board to fit between rafters…

Not sure how I ever missed this thread. You my friend have the type of garage that I have dreamed of. Your attention to detail is amazing. Thank you for sharing and please continue to post updates to this amazing barn. What is the overall size of the barn? Well done sir!!!

Wonderful project! Think you are doing a masterful job on your property which is beautiful and you do your family heritage proud by building such a nice structure.

Looking forward to following along.

Thanks for posting the progress shots.

Not much of an update but we have made some headway building the railings.
And put all the toys away for winter.

That shop has some character. I have a feeling this is a structure/property that will be around for several generations to come.

Love the radiant floor heat as well. Is that the only source of heat? What do you keep the ambient temp in the winter at when your away? How many KWh does it use a month, and whats the square footage?

Floor heat is all we need there. It's around 3,000 sq ft including the loft and we leave it around 58 degrees all winter. We have a gas well on the property, so having free gas I don't track what we use - there is an old farm house on the same well that we heat as well. The boiler has no problem keeping the place warm even when the temps hit single digits! Very happy with the heat!

Amazing build, beautiful barn. Do you farm the existing acreage? Or is it family farm?

Old dairy farm that now raises some beef and leases the other fields for hay. Family dairy farms are a thing of the past...

It's time to fix the big "miss" in this build. I was too cheap (or just didn't have the money) to install T&G pine ceiling. Instead we just covered the rafters with OSB **** and moved on. After installing the antique bar, spa shower, nice walls, etc… - you would look up and see this ugly box store OSB ceiling! This had to change…

The fix is to make thousands of exacting cuts and install each 16" inch board one at a time to make the ceiling look like we first installed the T&G pine! Several weeks of this is starting to pay off! What do you guys think? (Yes, it was an expensive mistake!)
