I'd pay a couple Benjamins for a 6 inch Columbian with a swivel base and probably worth a bit more since i didn't see any cracks, welds or broken parts on yours.

are you trying to sell it or just looking for confirmation that you made a good buy?

Value depends on demand and if you can find any others easily and my guess is that they don't come up often in New Jersey. i haven't seen one on Craigslist here in the Pacific NW for years.

So I got a guestimate of 75,150,200,and 200ish

I suppose that pegs the value at about $150-200?

I will be trying to sell it in the near future. Just trying to get a value in mind

I dont have a bench big enough for this monster! All my vises are like 4 inch hahah

Andrew do you own this Columbian or are you just trying to buy it? you are talking low #'s for a 6 inch vise and the $75 offering was from a member that has an Ebay store so probably not a user and just buying to resell it. it's still a low offer at that for a 6 inch vise and i can barely buy 3 inch old US vises for that much in good shape.

my Columbian 205 vise that is missing its pipe jaws weighs 80 pounds so guessing your 6 incher weighs maybe a little over 100.

if you do mount it on a bench you will love using a huge vise and it doesn't take up that much more room. if you are looking for ideas to mount more than one vise on a bench at a time i have a couple threads started that are for vise stands and the one in my signature has a bench that you can mount them with a trailer hitch type mount and shelve the vises when not in use.

cheers

Try using $2.00 per pound how much does it weigh?

Ex. 100lbs=$200.00 dollars.
70lbs= $140.00 dollars.
Then you can haggle (if buying) for less then $2.00 per lb.

Some people want over $2.00 per lb. for the big monsters in some areas and others for less just depends on your area.

First off, it's A Columbian, not The Columbian. What did you pay for it? How long had it been listed? Condition is hard to determine from your pics. Columbian is not a premium company to many.

Hey at least it wasn't spelled "Colombian" as so many seem to do. Is that why the vises are lighter, they smuggled coke inside them needed more room for drugs?? lol

seriously, they are stout vises. my dad gave me a stationary 5" jaw machinist vise and it weighs a little over 70 lbs.

Never heard of a vise being sold by the pound. That is normally for anvils.

In my store, that would be $160 ish depending on condition. Note, i have a store and overhead and a clientele. If you can get $125, take the money and run:D

True anvils by the lb. but the op needs some kind of price guide and I use my method and you use your method and still others use their method, what counts in the end is that both parties are happy.

Some dreamer in SW Washington listed a Columbian 6" swivel base for $700.00 earlier this year. I don't believe it sold. You probably erased it from memory because it was so far out of line! :bounce:

Too bad we don't have vise buying guides like baseball ,coins stamps, in the end if guys buy them for under $1.00 per lb. then they are doing very well. Not even sure the going rate per lb. at the local scrap yards are these days?

Don't get me wrong I like vises at least for me it is just something to hold an object, after some time so many different ones just take up valuable floor space. Some guys go ape **** and own boat loads of them all the more power to them.:rocker:

Well maybe some GJ member can come up with a price guide, but until then I use the weight/$ guide.

The buyer might have done local pick up to avoid shipping. Who knows?

I wouldn’t pay that price but to each his own.

I used to sell them for $50-80 a few years ago and I haven't bothered picking them up anymore so maybe I should.

WOW $175.

well it is probably better than some new ones and if you can't get import junk now to keep prices down maybe they are more valuable like they should have been all along.
