I was only able to keep my crew for a week before they were called back to paying jobs but I feel like we made the most of the time we had. Work on the house roof is nearing completion. Just a few details to button up and we're ready to place some more concrete early next week.

We had a conflict between the reinforcing for the front edge beam and some steel beams so we dragged out the plasma cutter and cut some holes so the rebar could pass right through the beams

While we had the plasma cutter set up we cut a few holes to let the #5 bars in the LiteDeck beams pass through the steel carrying beams. We are creating a ring beam around the entire perimeter of the roof and I wanted a tie beam down the center as well. Overkill? what? me?

Here's the completed threaded rod detail at the rear perimeter beam.

Meanwhile, I finally found the time to get started on the ICF walls for the second floor guest quarters on the garage wing.

As with most things, a little extra time getting everything started correctly will save time later on. I leveled and plumbed the startedr course using shims wood block to hold the blocks in place.

On the exterior walls, I used strapping to secure and align the blocks to the previous course, which we placed weeks ago. The ICF's run out onto a steel beam on the right, which required a little extra formwork.

Now that the first course is done, we'll probably be able to run the rest of the walls up in a day. There are some complicated bucks to install that will take a least a day or two plus the final AC wall.

LL - Concrete house question...

What are you doing for crack control in your AC walls and slab. The roof, obviously will have a membrane on it. Likewise the ICF will be clad with siding.

Are you just forming with chamfer strips at **? spacing, anticipating cracks that you will fill with sealant? I'm curious. Seems like residential basements, for example, don't do anything for crack control yet in commercial buildings we never skip on control joints.

House is looking good.

With your attention to detail and obvious delight in placing concrete I'm surprised you didn't excivate back from the landing and form up a tunnel leading to an elevator that services all floors. Now that would be sumthing.

I'm not normally a lurker but this build usually leaves me speechless. I am sick of the word 'awesome' but I can't think of another adjective to use in it's place right now so we'll leave it at that. This is a blast to watch come together!!

looks a superb idea to me. i am glad to hear about it. but make sure that it would cause you some additional heavy expenditure on it

Most of the mesh is down and we're almost ready to place the house roof. Just waiting for the finishers to come free.

Over the weekend we laid up the rest of the ICFs for the second floor walls over the garage. It took two of us a total of about 5 hours.

This section took the longest just because we needed staging to reach it and the bracing was more involved.

We ran the blocks wild at the ends. After we build the bucks, we'll trim the ends to fit. The bucks are fairly elaborate due to the 15 degree angle.

Sorry for the meager update. We're not able to put in as much time as we'd like. Life seems to intrude from time to time.

Nothing to be sorry for, thank you for posting this dream project! Absolutely amazing what you are accomplishing. People like you are what makes this country great. The ability to visualize a dream and implement it.

I build my house back in the 90's and I don't want to even think of how many more rules and regulations I would have to comply with in today's environment.
Heck, I just wanted old fashion oil-base polyurethane to refinish my red oak floors and it was difficult to find and you can only buy it in quarts. I needed 4 gallons which was 16 containers. (actually liked it cause it was much easier handling the product)

Meager ? Any updates in this thread are worth the wait. I see bracing on the inside of the ICF wall, does it need any on the outside ?

Doug. I talked with Tony at Ross Racing the other day and we talked about how I met you here on the Garage Journal. Said he had not heard from you in a while. I told him you were busy and sent him a link to the last page in this thread. If I had sent him a link to the first page he would never get my heads done!

The rumors of my demise are much exaggerated. I'm still at it - I just don't have much to show for it.

I've had to take some time to buy-out some long lead items such as millwork, windows, siding and roofing. Pictures of that process wouldn't be very interesting - unless of course you like pictures of a grown man crying while looking at over budget quotes.

We did get the roof on the house placed last week and stripped all the shoring over the last couple days.

I don't have any pictures of the placement because there were only four of us and I was too busy vibrating to grab the camera.

Here's a view from the back. Even with all the rain, I stuck with the plan and used hydracure blankets to ensure a proper cure

We officially moved into the camper over Memorial Day so it was a perfect chance to put up the flag.

Speaking of rain, we've been getting a ton of it as well as some cool temps. Both of which have slowed my ambition ......umm, I mean production

I set up a little fab shop under cover and worked on bucks and forms for the AC on the second floor of the garage. I intentionally neglected to pick up my mess in the interest of realism.

Here's a few of the bits and pieces.

With the return of good weather, I'm looking forward to a productive weekend and will hopefully get the last of the ICF walls ready to place.

I promise to have a more interesting update for you of the weekends progress.

First off, thanks to everyone for your patience and continued interest. I really wish I had more to post but things will pick up again soon.

Just don't tell him a spent the rest of his motor money on this damn house.

Last weekends work looks great LL! I hope you have a relaxing (or productive? Your choice!) Memorial Day weekend.

Thanks. It was mostly wet but we got a little of both done.

LL, is this going to have a rooftop patio?

There will be at least one. Just gotta leave room for that helicopter pad.

Since I've thrown the moniker of 'FORT Kennebec' at the concrete underground, I would think that LLWillysfan has planned for a rooftop helicopter pad that's engineered 'just a bit' more robust than what we mere mortals would consider adequate....

Here's the 'helicopter' that he's probably spec'ing the structure for.:bubbrubb:
