This house is amazing. When it is done, you should have a "house warming party". Charge admission and give the proceeds to charity. I think I would be there.

Love this tread. It's nice to see the house coming along. Its easy to tell that you are putting your heart and soul into the build. Once it done, well is it ever really done, you can start working in that great garage. I wish you luck in finishing this massive project so you can get back to a normal life.

Nice update. Miele is hands down the best German made appliances that money can buy and efficient. I have a Washer and Dryer set up from Miele, as well as a dishwasher, and refrigerator.

I'm a latecomer to this thread, but I just read every post and wanted to reaffirm what the others have said.

The attention to detail is amazing. Something anyone would be proud of!
The modern design is tastefully done and well integrated into the environment / landscape.
Building a house and garage out of concrete is just awesome! Wow!
The fact that you did this and shared the progress is commendable. I can barely even get small projects done, let alone document and post pictures!

Thanks for sharing all of this with us. Truly amazing!

This thread is becoming to Discussion Boards, what Gangnam Style is to Youtube. I hope the moderators can convince Internet Brands (owner of this site) to hire a biographer to provide a table of contents, index, and timeline here. It's really instructive for concrete house building. (My fingers are sore from doing research for particular details...)

Doug - By chance, have you settled in on thresholds for the thermal breaks at your garage doors? I have a similar detail (with the foam break) and found that the rubber thresholds I ordered aren't going to cut it. So, I need to go to metal.

Do you have a plan or have you picked out a supplier to make your thresholds?

I'd seen your thread on GJ for a while now and never found the time to read it, I'm very impressed with what you have created. In any project this size you will have setbacks whether that is job related, scope creep, budget constraints, or personal hiccups. I'd like to offer my congratulations on taking this project on and seeing it to this point. I'm glad I'll get to follow along in real time now and see what else you have up your sleeve.

Looks great as always. I did have a question about the doors.

With them going from basically floor to ceiling, do you run into any issues with going from summer to winter, expansion and contracting, etc since they are so close to the floor and ceiling?

Like many others, I signed up for the site simply to comment on this thread... just read through the whole thing, and wow, what a journey. Feels like a bit of an unfinished symphony, however, as all the way through reading I was thinking "can't wait to see the end result..." and it is still not here! Guess I will just subscribe and join the many others waiting for the next update

Trust things are ok with you, Doug, and looking forward to any updates available - the weather has been pretty decent this spring/summer, so I hope you have made progress!
