The craftsman 1086 pc. Tool set

Yes it is mine, no I did no buy it. Almost 2 years ago all my tools were stolen out of my garage. The insurance company said they would cover the losses etc. I sent them a list of tools and they told me they can either send me a check for ACV (actual cash value) which would have been essentially 40% of the actual price of the tools. I could then go out and buy all the tools and they would refund me the difference once I sent them receipts. OR they suggested they could find replacements for me through their vendor and they would send them to me. I opted for that. Instead of sending me each tool they just bought me the 1086 pc master set from Craftsman, along with miscellaneous air tools, compressor, heater etc. Needless to say this showed up at my shop today, I took it home to open and view the awesomeness!!

Almost EVERY piece has those 3 letters your going to ask about. Only the double ratcheting wrenches and the flare nut sets are china.

Yes this is the best day of my life. And no you cannot have any.

They are not anymore, used to be, but the singles in store are China now. Luckily I got mine a while ago, so they are US. I guess they are still some out there.

Yes and no. Half of my old tools were craftsman 1/3 were Snap-On and the rest were random vintage tools gifted from my father.

I go through a local company called Bear River Mutual. No I did not have extra insurance for my tools, it was just covered under my policy.

My homeowners covers me up to $100,000 I think in anything in my house. Just subject to the deductible. It will vary depending on your company and coverage, probably a good idea to call and ask with scenarios.

It did take 2 years to settle my claim. I had to get notarized letters from my ex-wife, my father, customers, family, friends stating that they knew I had (insert tool here) and why. I also had to scrounge up pictures of my garage, finished hot rods etc. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU GO TAKE PICTURES OF YOUR TOOL BOXES AND TOOLS, and make an itemized list. Save your receipts no matter how trivial...that's why it took me 2 years.

if theres any of it you dont want that a barcoded (individually packaged) item id return it saying it was a 'gift' and get store credit to use in store or for ordering a different 'pro' brand they sell thru the website.... unless your completely satisfied (not sure what you had before for tools) in which case CONGRATULATIONS on your new tools

So it took almost 2 years to get your tools back? I lost all of my tools to a fire August 2011. I chose the option to have the $ sent to me and I have almost all of my tools back now. The tools I still need aren't tools that I use a lot. Im waiting on good sales or like new used items. I would go crazy if I went 2 years without tools. It was bad enough that I had to pay to have my oil changed for the first time ever.

A number of years ago I wanted a second complete set of tools that I could leave out in the workshop. Putting it together piecemeal really didn't appeal to me, so I ended up buying the largest 'instant' mechanics set Craftsman offered at the time... I think it was 1,500 pieces and included 3/4 drive and all impact sizes. I remember it taking me a couple of days sorting through, and checking everything and organizing it into the toolchest.

Make sure they didn't jip you out of the 1/4" drive, 12-point deep metric sockets like they did with me.

The items that go into these sets are not packaged for retail sale like what you get in the store. Many times things are just taped together, in plastic bags or in plain cardboard boxes. There are probably a lot of items no longer available in stores that pop up in these sets (ie. USA made).

Yeah it took me 2 years. I just about did go crazy. It is somewhat emasculating to not be able to do your own brakes, oil changes etc. At the time I was managing a lube franchise so the oil change wasn't a big deal, but putting ape hangers on my bike, changing the starter in my wifes car, etc was a pain without my own tools. I have been working at a dealership for the last year so a case of Bud Light gives me free reign over the foreman's tools.

Yeah my wife hates this forum, mostly because we spend most saturdays at junk/rummage sales looking for vintage SO stuff etc... all the money I used to spend on lunch and dinner for her I now spend on rusty old tools.

Not gear wrench brand, but it does include: a set of double box end ratcheting wrenches, a set of ratcheting box end wrenches with regular open end, and a set of ratcheting open end/box end wrenches.

It was like being a kid again, every box containing something new and interesting that you didn't know was there. The first thing my wife did when she got home was take my shoes off the couch.

btw, I too went thru a similar story... my snapon box and many, many tools were lifted out of my home garage... I had fully coverage insurance on it and they allowed me to re-buy everything and reimbursed me.

To anyone who might not have it.. be sure your home owners, or business insures your tools... you don't want to know how I felt that day I walked into my garage only to find I left it open and my beloved SO box was gone (with contents)!

I'm surprised people are able to move these loaded tool boxes. I know my 56" weighs a ton, they would have to bring a pretty big truck to roll it on and out of my garage. I also live in a residential subdivision. I've wondered from time to time if I should somehow chain or bolt it to the cement floor. Lotta money and irreplaceable stuff that even if I had the $$, I couldn't re-buy it.

Wow, there is a lot of Cman pro that they don't even sell anymore in that set. I love how Sears just cant get a set right. It is either missing three pieces, or has doubles of everything. Nice set though!

I just bought a nice big SO 32" roller, top box, and side lockers full of tools. It didn't have a ton of heavy stuff in it, but we took out maybe 100 lbs and two of us got it loaded into a van. No keys either to lock the drawers. I was very surprised how easy it was.
