Thanks xtremek! Yeah, I probably should have put in a X brace at the firewall. I was thinking the roof and sides would hold it in place. Some parts are reproduced. For instance, the firewall that will fit my car is actually for an E Body (Cuda/Challenger) with AC. The non-AC firewall will not work. I will have to remove the mounting tabs on the back as they are slightly different for my car (a B Body). The floorboards are reproduced and quarter panels. The torsion bar crossmember is reproduced but needs to be slightly "modified" for my car. I'm going with a used rust-free piece. The cowl is not reproduced so I will have to repair it.

Part of the reason I’ve been away from this site is that I started an addition on my home. Like most things in life, they never go as planned. I ended doing much of the demo, helping with much of the framing, helping with the electrical, doing all of the insulation, hanging all of the drywall, putting in the hardwood floors, tiling the bathrooms, painting and finish carpentry. All this while working the midnight shift:willy_nil! I basically had two fulltime jobs for about 2 1/2 years. Yea me!

Here are some pics of the process.

I’m still plugging away on my Road Runner: I got the floors in. I just need to grind & sand the plug welds. I also built a temporary enclosure out of 1X3’s to keep my compressor warm during the winter. I put an oil filled space heater in there to bring the temp above 40 degrees when I’m running it. I also installed a Moisture Minder on the compressor, as well.

Did you use weld through primer on the pans? I want to start using it, and wonder how it works.

I did. I didn’t have any problems with it. This is what i used. It got a lot of good reviews.

So as I'm scrolling down this morning, I see a the whole section on the house addition I somehow missed, several times. First kudos for working 3rd shift. I did it a couple of times and it's not an easy life. Even more kudos for the nice job on the house. It looks really nice.

Thank you, much appreciated! I HATED working the 3rd shift. I was very happen when I got off of them. Some can tolerate it, I could never get used to them. I worked them for 3 years, then 2nd shift for about 13 years, then back to 3rd for about 3 more and now on 1st shift, thank God!

Thanks for looking!

I hated 2nd the most, no time to do anything. 3rd was ok if I worked 7 days a week. A consistent sleep cycle is mandatory.

I was the opposite. I preferred the second shift. I liked the ability to get things done; projects, gym, etc. I did miss out on a lot of family stuff though, like kids after school events, working complete opposite shift as my wife. We hardly saw each other. When I worked the 3rd shift, I would make myself sleep as soon as I got home.

I’m still plugging away on my car. I started to mock up the firewall replacement.

I did the same thing so that I could spend time with the family. Sleep as soon as I got home. I'm surprised they have a firewall replacement panel.

I lucked-out on this. The panel is for a '71 E Body (Cuda/Challenger) with AC. This fits my car which is a B-body. There are slight differences but workable. The non-AC firewalls are not the same/will not interchange. There are a few body parts that will interchange between the E Bodies and B Bodies. E Body panels/parts are in higher demand (higher value cars) so they're more readily available.

Hi all, I've been making some progress on my RR. I had to replace the lower driver's side section of the windshield frame. This is a typical area to rot on these cars. I had to use a donor piece as replacements are not made.

This is the original section:

Next, hopefully, on to the firewall install.

When building my garage, one of the most important need I focused on was to be able to work comfortably in there during the winter. So, I made sure I insulated as best I could and thermal broke the floor. I also installed two small electric heaters, as well. Thursday and Friday we saw temps dip down into the low teens. On Saturday morning, it was 9 degrees outside before I turned the heaters on. The loft, which is not insulated, was 15 degrees while the garage (first floor) was 33 degrees. After about 4 hours, the temp inside the garage reached 65 degrees. Also, the small enclosure I built for the compressor, in the loft, was 59 degrees. I have a small oil-filled space heater in there to keep in warm when I’m using it in the winter.

Outside temp:

The loft is the top number, the garage (first floor) is the bottom:

I’m very happy with how well this turned out. I had to turn the heaters down mid-day because I was getting too hot!!:rocker:

I’ve also been plugging away on my car (the reason for my garage rebuild);
I replaced the left side cowl with a section from a repopped piece that was close to what I needed. The piece I used is for a cuda/challenger. Some parts to fit from these cars to my car. After getting this trimmed up, I welded it in:

I then spotwelded my firewall in. I purchased a spot welder from Harbor Freight. It worked pretty well and saved me a ton of time over plugwelding:

My Chevelle needs all that work, and then some. I need to watch this thread to get motivation.

Keep up the good progress!
