I have been sorting trash from treasure and feel good about the 320 square feet I reclaimed last week!

Butch rides on. He did try to kill himself again though...ate the remnants of a Mackie bar (rat/mouse poison) that was in the house before we moved in. My wife saw him do it though, and I got my finger down his throat within seconds and got him to cough it up.

I got a whole lot of trash to separate myself...you'll see.

Thanks guys. And it will be an adventure. Hopefully a very long term adventure. Old house, shop, barns, cars, tractors...you get the idea.

I'll probably have to start a new thread.

Right now, I'm still working at the old place during the day (home office), and then back to the ranch during the day. Don't have any internet out there till next week, so I'm pretty limited on spare internet time until then.

Because I also discovered your link to the original thread, I had to subscribe to it as well - and my OCD won't allow me to read part two before part one.

Yeah lots of plans...to include woodworking (a little bit), metalworking (a little bit) and auto repair (probably a lot bit). And my Jeep and bikes and other stuff has to live there too. As well as some of the contents that are already there.

First of all congrats on the new place and lots more room to work with. Secondly, that'll take a lot of work to get up and running but you are used to that by now. Looking forward to seeing more. If you make a new tread be sure to post it here so we can find it easier.

What's even better is that doing the garage improvements in a new place with all the previous experience should produce the ideal set up I like how you can do many things and keep the vintage look. A man after my own heart.

So, first up, what will the new big door treatment be?

The big door treatment? Well, maybe one day I'll put some windows in the doors. What part of Long Beach are you in? I grew up in Norwalk. My sister lived in Belmont Shores for a number of years.

I wouldn't have had the heart to do what I'm doing now if I hadn't started with the "smaller" garage project before. Thanks for the encouragement and thanks for reading along.

Hey Fergus, just got done reading through your threads on your derelict garage and finally got sick of seeing this message every time I visited GJ. Since 2010!

So this is my first post in honor of your awesome projects and for sharing them with us. I'll be on to read all about your derelict ranch next. Very curious to see what is up with that.

And your Honda 600 madness reminded me of this beauty I spied at Bonneville some time ago when I made a last minute left turn heading back home from Vegas to go check out the scene. I had a great talk with the guy that owned it, he was running the original twin engine it, he was loving it.

Anyway, just wanted to chime in, thanks for sharing. Carry on.

Minor update here.

Got some Christmas cash, so off to Home Depot I went. I bought four sets of 20" full extension slides for the drawers I'm planning to build. Then I started thinking about working out there at night...and how it ***** for lack of light. So I went ahead and got some bare ceramic light sockets while I was there.

Didn't see anything in the way of reflectors or shades that would work, so I had to think about it for a few days. Then, we were down in the city and I remember Jack Olsen's cake pan lights, and so we stopped at Ikea. I found something that would work even better - stainless mixing bowls. On sale for $4.99, so I picked up five of em.

Drilled some holes

Put in the fixtures

And bam...

I hung them all on one length of aircraft cable, and each one has a short loop (through the other two holes on top of the bowls) of cable that hangs of the main line.

You'll notice that's during the afternoon. It is super bright out there at night...almost as good as daylight. I know I said I hate them, but I used CFLs in the lamps...and I actually like them. I saw that the bulbs were listed as 2700k...and since my other thread on hating fluorescents I learned that was around the range of light that I like to work in... and that is close to regular incandescents.

That is thinking outside the box. I was thinking of buying light fixtures and using 105w-200w CFL's for my lighting needs in my un-completed shop build. My lighting needs are mid to high bay fixtures. I like the creativeness in these fixtures.

I'm reading through your travels. You have done an awesome job! I'm a brewer to and use keggles also.

At the top of the page, in the black bar, look for the User CP link (User Control Panel). Click that and open a whole new world!

Under Settings & Options, there is an Edit Signature link. Click that and edit your signature.

You should really take some time and explore the other links in the User CP. You'll learn a lot by doing that.
