Fowl: it's lucky for your MIL that she had you and your son coming over so you could replace the toilet. when you first told the story sorry I had to laugh out loud, but really I WAS FEELING YOUR PAIN.

are you back on the coast now or still on the road?

Worked with my five year old today on the tricycle that him and the neighbor kid started on. We are waiting on the rear tires but here is a before and after.

He did the majority of the polishing, I helped with disassembly and reassembly.

Put a little time in on a pulley I’m putting back into service. It was completely corroded and seized.

Here is a picture of some of the roller bearings (some cleaned, some not)
3bb91164313739116be4c48219dde152.jpg

Still quite a bit of pitting but they will work.

Here is a picture of the pulley

65dadf9c1e5fb81dde57db8eb45320c5.jpg

Still got a lot of work to do before it’s ready for the tool polisher’s thread.

Fowl: can you tell us what you gave your 5 year old son to use to polish up that trike? looks pretty good from my chair.

did you straighten out the front wheel or was it just needing some tightening? did you order new back wheels?

cool project and great helper if you son did that work.

have a great weekend in PARADISE with your family (not so smokey here now)!!

I have a meguiars kit for cars that has a drill attachment and three pads. He did a wipe down with simple green. Then hit it with some cutting compound. Then some polish.

Front tire just needed tightening. Rear wheels were shot.

All 4 of my boys rode this trike.

New back wheels are on their way

Are your plates off of your cars? I started writing wring on the back of mine what they came off of. Maybe someday my kids will think it's cool. Or they will just say I had too many cars.

Fowl: I sort of figured that might be a couple of the issues of painting peg board, but happily i've never painted any of mine.

how does your bride like the new freshened up room?

She's pretty happy with it. But now she wants to put flooring in it....

It is a utility room behind the garage, so I think I have her talked into the peel and stick vinyl flooring. Hopefully she can find something she likes in that, otherwise, we will likely go with a wood grain laminate.

FOWLDARR, I finally made it over here...

I like that you reuse/re-purpose a lot of older tools. I try do that as well. What brand was that bench grinder? Are you going to mount it on a stand? I don't have a bench grinder yet; been looking for an older craftsman to match my table-saw and drill-press. BUT I do have a stand made with an old forklift tire as the base. I think it's pretty ingenious because the forklift tire is solid rubber so it's heavy and it doesn't chatter against the concrete floor. Just to give you some ideas. You may have seen it when you viewed my thread.

I like the miter-saw station as well. That's something I plan on doing in the future. Please post if there's anything different you wished you would have done or added to it.

Your wife's craft room is pretty awesome. Did you paint it with a brush or a spray gun?

And lastly, the post about the chicken and the dog being yours made me laugh. What is the chickens name? Haha.

The bench grinder is just a cheap, older harbor freight model. I'm on the lookout for an older craftsman, and just missed one last weekend (on a stand for $50). I have a smaller plastic era black and decker as well that was a freebie. No plans to make a stand, instead I mounted it to a scrap piece of 2x6 and I clamp it to the bench when I use it (this works for now, since I want to replace it).

The miter saw station, isn't quite complete yet. I'm going to straighten out some cuts and then box it in (to keep sawdust from getting all over the lower bench), I'm going to add a door to the cabinet and some shelves, and see how it does from there. That's it for now. I really wanted to be able to pull it out and use it elsewhere when and if appropriate.

For the craft room I used a roller and brush.

The chickens name is Rose (we have 5 others just like her and they are all named Rose) because she acts like Rose from the Golden Girls and she is a Golden Sexlink.

The dogs name is Winston Cowhill III (Named by my nieces)

Fowl: How's the little guy's trike coming along or are you still waiting on the new wheels before you end up making some or fixing the old ones?

enjoying the last few days of summer?

We ordered wheels that didn’t fit. Ordered other wheels that should fit, but have not arrived.

My wife had surgery last week, so I’ve been playing nurse and single working Dad while she recovers. Looking forward to more shop time soon b

Just got all caught up! Great garage. I was just thinking about painting some peg board. I only have one sheet, but after reading about your adventures, now I’m not sure.

Hope your wife is doing good.

I just found your thread today.... Are you in Reedsport or Winchester Bay? I have been to that car show many times while camping at Winchester Bay. Your shop looks great and I like the progress you have made to it. hope your wife heals quickly and all goes well.

I’m in Reedsport. Great little town and still minutes from the ocean and the dunes.

Got a little shop time tonight

A pulley I started a while back got a fresh coat of paint, cleaned up a drill index, and painted an old craftsman hacksaw that was chipped up.

I should have gone with a gray hammertone on the saw, and I thought the bronze would be darker.

That drill index cleaned up very nicely! Also, I like the bronze on the hacksaw - I think it goes well with the red grip.

Maybe its just the pic, but did you paint the bore on that pulley? I'd think you'd want to keep that bare metal for the bearings - any concerns with that?

It got some paint in it. Not really worried about it, but I'll probably clean it out. I don't really use pulley's that often, just thought it would be fun to fix one up. The cylinder bearings that it rolls on were pretty corroded and they are still pretty pitted even after being cleaned up, so a little overspray is probably the least of their worries.
